One thing I will miss when SOS comes out is popping along to this thread every Saturday. If everyone cared so much about the games they were making the AppStore would be a far more beautiful place. Cannot wait.
That pic made my day! Thanks! Awwww! *sheepyhugs* But fear not, kind sir! We will make a new thread - a better thread - and fill it with lots of Spoiler spoiler tagged stuff that people have unlocked in-game It will be a glorious thread that will look mostly empty/blacked out! QS =D
Here's a quick question for you guys! I'm obviously (I hope!) a ZX Spectrum guy Just wondering, if you're old enough, if you are too, or where you on the Commodore 64 side of the fence? Eh? EH??? Inquisitive sheepy minds want to know! QS =D
Sorry, I don't think I'm old enough. My first system was a blue Game Gear when I was 5 or so. Then a SEGA Genesis Nomad, a Dreamcast, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Wii, and now iPhone. Plus Macs since 1992ish.
Ah, so you missed the great UK 8bit computer wars - gotcha! Some fabulous systems there to grow up with though! Aren't blue Game Gears pretty rare? And I always wanted a Nomad! QS =D Edited to add: Can you believe the music in my games is made on computers older than you are! :O
Sixty four. Half of my pals had speccys though. Happy, happy dayz. Used to love going round their houses to play the Ultimate games, tir-na-nog and I really loved those Wally games. On the 64 though we had Minter, Braybrook and Crowther and they're still geniuses to this very day. And Rob Hubbard on the music. And Zzap64 with Julian Rignall et al. Maybes it's just nostalgia and my age at the time but I do look back with such happy memories to have partaken in such an Era. And then Acid House happened.............
The blue Game Gear came bundled with The Lion King, so I guess that's when I got it. I've never seen (or looked for) another one besides mine. The Nomad was sweet. I love systems that don't take up the TV screen. Doesn't everyone play games and watch TV at the same time? I turned 26 a month ago. So, is that younger or older than the aforementioned systems? Edit: Oh, I forgot that my Dad had a Deco? (I thought it was an Atari, but it could have been a 64 or something else?) a when I was little. The only game I remember playing was Burger Time. I stink at that game.
*bites tongue* Some real classics there! *hugs his Speccy* Like you I had friends on the 'other' side, and basically got the best of both worlds I think there's a kind of camaraderie amongst those that lived through that - it was all brand new back then, and a whole generation shared in the discovery of it all Also - nothing wrong with Nostalgia! SOS is a nostalgia atom bomb, believe me! Sorry, what? My mind's gone blank... Ah - I was on the GameBoy/Nintendo side of the fence back in those days, so I'm not as well informed about the older Sega machines as I should be! I have several of each now of course! (though no Nomad!). I do! Happy Belated Birthday! I can still remember being 26 - one of the best years of my life I think! Oh, and you're younger - the Spectrum was 30 last year I believe! :O I'll be honest and say I'd never heard of the Deco - and I thought I knew EVERYTHING to do with retro games! You learn something new every day - I will do some research into that! Thanks! Cheers! QS =D
Hey all! Still working hard, but I took a break to watch the Xbox #E3 conference thingy. I got a little disheartened watching it, mainly because I'd *love* to make games that look so wonderful, but I'm only one person. Still, I hope the world is ready for a 2D Black and White nostalgia bomb that looks like this: New stuff to note: Your rocket can land on platforms! More platform variations! Sentry Gun (next to the teleporter!) Different alien type! So today I'm going through the game deciding where the platforms will go, and which aliens appear on which levels. Platforms will change position every 5 levels. Alien types will change every two levels. It's a lot of work, but once it's done I'll have a pretty much functioning and balance correct game that I can send out to testers! Trying to get it all done today! Another thing to note: On the green screenshot on the previous page (the 'crowded' one) I noticed something that bugged me. The aliens animated at the same time. If you look closely, each alien has one of two looks because I captured them on that animation frame. So I went back and added a random element to the animation so that that's not immediately obvious. It's a really really really really tiny detail, but it's something I noticed and thought was worth the 10 minutes it took to 'correct'. Anyway, back to work! Hope you're all well! I'm enjoying myself immensely! QS =D
I honestly prefer small stuff to big stuff. It really is where it's at for me. And this small thing looks pretty damn immense to me.
Hey all, Some good and some bad news! Grab a cuppa and sit tight, here goes! The good news first is that the game is finally with testers. W00t! No real feedback yet I'm afraid, but I was happy to get it out in the early hours of this morning (around 6am I think!) because I'm due at a 40th Birthday later today and wanted the game in players' hands before then (as I won't be doing a great deal today/tomorrow, work wise, for obvious reasons!). The bad news is that the game won't be out on the 18th. Even if I sent it to Apple *today* it wouldn't make that date. For that, I really am bloody sorry. I feel awful for stringing you guys along like this, and for a time travelling sheep, I'm obviously awful at 'estimates'. There's a grocery list of excuses I could give you all, but that would be rubbish. So I won't do that. Instead I will just re-iterate that I'm sorry it won't be ready in time, and that, in the time I have NOT taken up by 40th Birthdays (seriously, had about 4 in two months!) I am working hard to get this into your little paws! It'll be done when it's done. But hopefully with some good feedback and some hard graft it'll be sooner rather than later! I'll be back later maybe with a #screenshotsaturday shot, but I'm starting to feel you might think I'm trolling you with them! I'm not, honest! Speak soon, have a great Saturday! QS =D
Aha - I'm slightly laid up after a small op yesterday and any news is good news and that is proper progress. Have a great time at the party, sir. I'll still be here (although hopefully not literally 'here') when it hits.
Haha - nope - all straightforward stuff. Just a wee bit sore but nothing a wee bit of TxK can't get me through.
Ah good! I got to level 100 recently on TxK - that is a great, great game - well worth buying a Vita for! Anyway, I have retro games/controllers to amass for tonight's festivities! Be well(er), and speak soon! I'll let you know the kind of feedback the testers give me once I get some too! Cheers, QS =D
Level 100 on TxK. Damn you. I mean kudos. It's pretty exciting that the game has been sent out to testers. Yay! Like Slam said, have a great time, you deserve it!
