Speak for yourself. I'm not even arguing for Mario or any other platforms.

Read your original post and then your claimed implication. You just slap on the label of traditional as some distinguishing factor for older games and expect that to be a means of differentiating games. I think it would help if youd look up the word instead of flaunting it in your post.

What I think is, a true console platformer with hours of gameplay (like say, Mario 3 or Sonic, since they're the only ones I can recall now, I didn't play the 3d ones after) perhaps wouldn't be worth making for iOS - I hope they try, but controls are a problem so if one is successful, besides being totally spot-on, it would cost a lot (not talking about ports like Sonic CD since the game was already made - btw I was not a Sonic fan but I was told it has the best touch controls for a traditional platformer, I wonder how they compare to the joypad).

When a full console experience is released on iOS, usually it's from a big name like EA and costs USD 10 or more, like the Squeenix titles - when they do a good game like Chaos Rings (not talking about their crappy conversions which they do because they are famous and some people will buy them) I think it's worth the 15-20 USD, but I suppose many don't because we're used to small prices. Like Cave, who does console experience games (some for iOS exclusively like Bug Panic which I love) and charge quite a bit, they declared they're not making enough money from their games. Swordigo is a good step towards this tho, I haven't played it enough to see if the scenarios are as varied as a console game or how much playtime you can get from it. I think I'll go play it again to see, got me curious on how long a 1.99 game (which I got for free) can last both in hours and enjoyment :p

Crazy Hedgy indeed offers hours of gameplay and the replay value is great.
Nowdays make a game become easier relatively, a small group can't produce a Mass Effect or a Batman Arkham City, but Mario is never a blockbuster in the field of gaming technology or Money.
In fact they are making easy money all the time, different age now, that why some of their best-seller titles nearly die out in recent two or three years.
And you say console experience from Cave? I guess that must be a very old console you are talking about.
    Then it's nothing.

Eh not really, Cave makes such elaborate 2d games that some don't run on the iPhone 4 for example, too much RAM required, their HD shooters are ports from Xbox 360. But they'll never be mainstream anyway, they have a small niche because in fact it is a game style from the 80s, but using today's hardware. Those games will never please everyone but they were sold at normal console price for the Xbox 360 and the like. Espgaluda, which I just bought for 13.99 for the iPads, costs USD 90 for the Xbox 360 here.

And all the games you mentioned cost usd 60, and they will usually only sell well for the first months that's why they need sequels later, so.. What's your point?#Not trying to be offensive, I don't get it.

Nice, didn't know this one, this video says it sucked but after an update it's very good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD_73C35jxs&feature=player_embedded#!

I'll get Akane the Kunoichi since I read good stuff about it.

Btw, Crazy Hedgy is only 99 cents now, I got it yesterday because despite hating tilt controls, the game works with them. And since the TA review (which for some reason gave it 4 stars but if you read it, looks like a 5-star review) says the game has 10 hours of gameplay and enough variety for that (which is lacking the most in iOS games IMO). But so far I can say they made a very fun platformer and it's gorgeous. The detail even in the world map is incredible. I just don't think I'll bear to play it on my ipad because of tilt. I couldn't even stand Temple Run there, but on the iphone it's fine. Might as well be the best iOS one as people here say.

technically you have 1 HP, and this increases to 2 HP if you collect a power up. If you fall into a hole you are indeed shit out of luck.

on behalf of mario and the mushroom kingdom, we apologize for not holding your hand the whole time. the latest mario games do hold your hand, so you might like them.

Heh, I still find it a bit weird when I fall into a hole and my avatar only loses health then comes back to where he was.

May a great game, deep gameplay over graphic.
But I don't like virtual direct buttons, how about controls like Paper Monsters? Make the certain area of screen to be the direct-control area.
