Can't disagree more, Crazy Hedgy is kind of better than any Mario game. Let's just compare these two games (series) in every aspects. Crazy Hedgy, the input is great, it works well and intuitive, easy to get used to and hardly tap the wrong "button". The graphic is much better than Mario. Full 3D and real time shade and lighting, more polygons and dynamic environment. The monsters are cuter with more actions. Customization is better than Mario too. With health point and more different ways to fight with monsters, the gameplay is deeper. The only thing I could think of Mario is better than CH is Mario is famous. Let alone the price of CH is a steal.
Haven't seen Emberwind NixQuest or Earthworm Jim Will have to dig into my catalog tomorrow but it's late tonight.
LMAO at all the crazy hedgy comments ("kind of better than any Mario game"? Kind of ridiculous if you ask me). It's not a traditional platformer at all, and I'm sorry but it kind of blows iOS is rich in platformers, they're just not very well rounded. There are a ton of good micro platformers and some pretty solid metroidvania titles, but not a whole lot else.
yes, I know someone would get hurt due to Mario huge userbase. And Mario is still the best-seller, but what? Can you give a reason why Mario is better other than just say so. People have different ideas, at least I've a valid point.
The thing is, Crazy Hedgy is not a traditional platformer, it's controlled by tile and etc. Mario is, and well, Swordigo *kinda* is (but it reminds me more of zelda 2, not too many tough spots to jump like Mario, but it has a few). Wind up Knight (if that's what's called) is a decent platformer but also is far from the regular one due to the guy not stopping. Project 831183 has shooting and also repetitive levels, well not a full console offering. Lostwinds could come close but the gameplay is far different from the classic platformers like Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong Country and so many others from that time. I think that's what they mean, I loved Mario before the 3D ones but anyway, it was an unforgettable platformer on NES/SNES/others and the point of the thread is, most people don't think this 'great platformer' game has arrived for iOS yet. I'd say Swordigo is great but not unforgettable, kinda bored me despite being so well done.
Mentioned nyx quest and EWJ, didn't feel like emberwind was worth mentioning Ya, I guess I just consider it more of an action Rpg than a platformer. Project 83313 is Fun but not anythingike Mario or a traditional platformer its more of a new expansion of the endless runner/platformer. For something similar tO Mario check out frogatto...
Storm in a teacup is a great little game. I do like crazy hedgy but I dot consider it a true platformer.
It's a completely stupid argument that I really don't feel like getting into, but just to briefly point out how ridiculous your statement is, Crazy Hedgy is a semi-unknown tilt-controlled iOS title that no one will remember the existence of in the future. The many Mario series are classics of the genre, genre defining games in fact, and some of the most popular and best ever made. Just look at metacritic to see how wrong you are. Crazy Hedgy is lucky IMO to have a 75, while numerous Mario titles score in the 90s. Case closed, Crazy Hedgy is not worthy of entering a discussion about great platformers, nor is it worthy of comparison to any Mario series in any way ever.
Briefly, what you say is still about the fame and history. But it's can do nothing with the game itself. It seems to say "Aztec has a long story and be well-known, so it's a better country than nowdays North Korea." Yes, Aztec may better or not, but you should prove your point by logic.
No I actually pointed to metacritic, the best independent source of rating and comparing games. You're just upset cause your game gets crushed looking at any independent metric. And FYI, logic and opinions don't mix. You haven't used an ounce of logic in this thread. You just just said you don't like Mario and you do like Crazy Hedgy. So what? Clearly your taste is bad 99% of gamers would give the nod to Mario over a tilt controlled novelty game. In fact, even if you only consider the 1% or less of gamers who know wtf Crazy Hedgy is, I'd still bet 99% would take Mario over it without a second thought. Now I'm done with this silly silly discussion.
So you're implying that traditional games are the best. That's pretty ridiculous. Your judgements are plagued by your sense of nostalgia with the older games to be even considered remotely rational.
I'm upset for what? Not really. Because I'm not a really platformer fan, I'd admit I am a bit upset because such a great game only be known by a very small number of people. If the stupid and selfish Apple could advertise the game by some ways such as put it in benchmark games, it could be a new angry birds? Nope, not for now at least. But it can be a new "where is my water". Maybe they should publish the game through Chillingo. It's not means the game is not good enough to be known by people without advertisement, so Mario is better. Nowdays there're too many games, some old titles just births at a right time. Mario is great, the fame does matter but doesn't means everything.
Oh the internets, where people who don't know you make more assumptions than a jealous girlfriend. No, I never implied that, I was just trying to say why I think people are giving you a hard time when you say 'this one is better than Mario'. It's kinda hard to compare the two. Sonic itself wasn't exactly traditional when it came out because of the speed things which were kinda 'new', just like Swordigo, which could be a good contender for some, also has some different elements (but I think it can be compared to SMB with Zelda elements). I just find that the Mario comparisons aren't gonna help, whether you like Mario or not, it was a hallmark for Nintendo and a ton of people (not defending Mario because I really liked two or three games and there are a ton). I'm not even into platformers that much, just saying that I didn't see any that was revered by a lot of people the way Mario and Sonic are (I didn't like Sonic very much fwiw), and if one comes that a ton of people say it 's undoubtly the best on iOS, I don't think it will be one with traditional controls that will take the crown someday (because imho a great great platformer that gets 5-stars everywhere and praised for a long time like the aforementioned ones will come out for iOS).
I believe LOE was pretty much a majority favorite for a long time, though I'm not sure if that sentiment remains. I think people may finally be tiring of the somewhat shallow speed run micro platformers that represent the majority of quality titles in the genre on iOS.
I agree, the games that get to be remembered and people kinda 'worship' (maybe too strong? Just woke up, blame my new Cave Games addiction lol) are the ones who have more personality, like a world, a history (and of course other things). Take Mage Gauntlet for example, I found the game epic, really awesome. But I'm over it because it doesn't exactly have an exploration world, story is so-so, etc, when you compare it to a true classic like Zelda link to the past, which I still remember when the world changes to the 'dark side' (or something like that) and you have a whole new story. Not criticizing Mage Gauntlet, it's awesome for the value and entertained me for hours and I hope the devs make a sequel like they said
