iphone/itouch game like Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria.......

    combat:

movement = virtual wheel bottom left
-move like you would any dual stick shooter
-double taps on virtual wheel does dashes

actions = virtual wheel bottom right
-each party member is mapped to a direction; up, down, left & right
-you can tap on the top, bottom, left, or right side of the wheel to command that character to attack
-or you can just slide your fingers from one side to another to command characters to attack
-and oh yea you can also ROTATE the wheel :)
-double tap can also be used so each character can have 2 different attacks
-you can also use flick gestures as well, up and/or down executes an attack where the party members assigned to the top & bottom of the wheel attack together, same for right and/or left

    between the two wheels:

    items - potion icon
-tap on the item button to pull up the inventory
-from here you can use items
    -change equipment

magic - wand icon? or just a fire symbol
-tap this button to pull up a list of spells
-no need to micromanage since the whole party is basically one entity anyways
-some spells can only be used with specific sets of party members assigned; and they have to be assigned a certain way

when not moving (game action is idle):
    -you can slide to pan
-pinch in/out to zoom or double tap
-tap on an enemy to get more info & stats
-and the second you touch that virtual wheel to move the camera will automatically zoom right back to your party (cool huh?)

    additional thoughts:

Its been awhile since I played VP2; but if my memory serves me correctly I really enjoyed the gameplay. I think its entirely possible to replicate the entire formula on the iphone, but I would present the game differently:

-i would definitely match quality of story and level design but i would present game progress it in a more arcade-ish way
-meaning there will be chapters/levels so you can easily replay a level
-have a nice listing of story progression
-plus splash loading screens that summarize the story and progression up to that point
-when you beat levels you might unlock new stuff so there is incentive to replay levels
-you can replay levels as many times as you want and still retain all the experience when you finally decide to continue the next chapter
    -checkpoints

    multiplayer:

-the VP2 combat system isnt optimized for multi player experiences.......
-so offer a 2D online fighter lobby plus local p2p support
-some characters from the game need to be unlocked
-for ideas on how the controls will work refer to this post --> http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=43503

quick match = basically a quick match against someone online with a random character on a random map

challenges = a mode where you can issue challenges to friends via social network layer and their intergration with 3rd party social networks like fb, twitter. you can also view & manage challenges from friends, possibly even bet credits which you can obtain by doing an in app purchase for credits?

pro = as you fight ppl in this mode you earn points when you win, lose points when you lose, with ldr boards

tourny = classic round-robin tournaments both public and private, but i want to go further and allow for more in depth profile stats almost like a baseball card of details about upcoming opponents and stuff, plus web integration where online communities, blogs, social network groups whatever, can set up tournaments via the web and then send out invite codes thru email where you have to enter invite codes on the device to get into the private tournaments, in addition you can also host & invite friends to your private tourny

    shop = more $$$

in app purchases of new chapters each with a ton of levels. The new chapters will pick up right where the last one left off, + add new characters and multiplayer maps to the mix

existing IP = go with a popular anime series and push both the mangas and anime episodes via in app purchases. streaming/web access for 99cents a pop or sign up for a low 9.99 a month to access a huge catelog of anime content for endless streaming, and instant access; negotiate a deal with VIZ

new IP = skies the limit; this formula can be used for sci fi, fantasy, mythological, anime, or a mash up. if you going with a new IP you need to come correct and offer additional content like an animated series, mangas/comic, graphic novels, short stories and movies all of which you can push on this in app shop in addition to the current models of distribution
