Hi everybody! This is my upcoming game "Ace Ferrara And The Dino Menace", a space combat sim in the tradition of X-Wing/Wing Commander, set in an 80s cartoon style universe. Spacefaring dinosaurs have declared war on mankind and only the Proton Riders - an oddball group of superpilots - can save Earth from certain defeat! Ace Ferrara is a military cadet who just scored the most prestigious internship in the galaxy: aboard the Proton Riders' flagship Discordia. However, between escorting coffee freighters and manning the fax machine, Ace soon discovers that being an intern among his heroes isn't quite what he dreamed it would be. Step into Ace Ferrara's shoes, meet cybernetically augmented cats, daredevil adventurers and the enigmatic Double-Doctor Proton, and work yourself up from lowly intern to galactic hero! The game is coming to iOS in August 2014, with Android/PC/Mac ports planned later in the year. Controls have been designed with touchscreens in mind, which is why movement is restricted to a 2D plane (i.e. left/right, no up/down). I'm working on this on my own, doing everything from code to graphics and music. So if there's anything you want to know more about, please feel free to ask! Quick update: There's now a developer diary at http://blog.aceferrara.com First post is a time-lapse of me creating one of the backdrops used in the game's story sequences (12 hours of drawing in Adobe Illustrator condensed into 6 minutes): Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Aye. Questions: what devices can run this smoothly? iPhone 4? Higher? Will there be multiplayer? The dinos are the bad guys right?
iPhone 4 would be the plan, but I haven't tested on it yet, so it's too early to tell whether it'll run the game smoothly. Multiplayer is unfortunately out of the question, simply because it would take a prohibitive amount of work, and this project is already very ambitious given that I'm the only one working on it. I'm hoping that people will get a kick out of the storyline instead! Yes, dinos = bad, mankind = good!
A) Ok. Eargerly awaiting results on that. B) No prob. C) Great. I love blastin saurs. Looks like the gameloft game. Star something control wise. Will we have cockpit view? Diffrent ships? Thanks.
I'm going to try experimenting with a cockpit view, but I doubt it will make it into the game - the game relies heavily on barrel rolling, which would probably make a first person perspective nauseating. Also, there are parts of missions where the perspective shifts towards a top-down view, which I'd have to rethink for a cockpit perspective. There will be a handful of different ships with different weapons and other characteristics. Think heavy bombers versus light recon ships! It's been a while since I played any Gameloft game, and I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned. Is it any good, should I check it out?
I am using the app, so I dunno how to get images here, but if you are listening mr. Dev, I like what I am seeing so far. Just saw the site where your posting updates.
I like the way your giving each species a charecter in their ships, like the trikes flying what look like heavy assault ships.
Thought I'd show you a more complete image of which dinos fly which ships, and how big the size differences are.
Thats awesome. You really are doing a nice job capturing each dino's identity in there ships. Will the rex's ship be a capital warship?
Haven't quite made up my mind on that yet, but it's probably going to be either that or the most badass fighter jets in the game.
You should make a ship for the Acrocanthosaurus and have it be 30x larger than the T. Rex ship and be indestructible and shoot various dinos out of its cannons
