?

Would you prefer a “mobilized” version of AAA games, or a straight port?

considering some recent big news, albeit controversial amongst console/pc gamers, the likes of
Diablo and Command & Conquer are making its way to mobile, however are often more then not, stripped down, streamlined, mobilized versions

    I.e. Tekken, Mortal Kombat etc..

Considering that the Nintendo Switch got a full port of Diablo 3 packaged with all its expansions, Skyrim, Doom, Wolfenstein, South Park etc...

While the new iPad Pro 2018 is said to have the gaming power of the Xbox One S

Which version would you choose for your mobile device?

    Tekken 7 or Tekken mobile

Even it if used a considerable amount of battery power, was $40+, your mobile/iPad did not meet the minimum specs and had to contend with touch controls though it had MFI support?

I voted for straight port, but with caveats. First, I’m not sure about Tekken 7 on mobile, but I think that a Diablo 2 port would be preferable to a “mobile-style” Diablo 3. In other words, straight ports make sense with the right games. Second, straight ports need to take into account the realities of mobile gaming and include niceties like auto-saving, larger type, etc. Third, and this is most important, the controls need to work on screen. That has been my main issue with SEGA’s ports — their standard stick widget is subpar, especially compared to games that nail it like Evoland 2.

I’ve played many excellent ports on iOS, especially for indie/Steam games. My recent favorite of the “big name” ports is probably Monster Hunter Stories, a game that was both a delight and a joy to play on my iPhone XS. More like that, please.

This thread just reminds me how much I love Oddworld Inhabitants. Straight up ports of their games, no mobile bullshit, and instead of just porting over Abe's Oddysee, they gave us New 'n' Tasty.

I agree with squarezero. I would prefer a port that makes good use of touch controls and the mobile screen space. Also I want developers to push the newer apple devices to their limit and I want Apple to give incentive to developers/publishers to release games suitable for their latest tech. In a perfect world Apple would have a software lineup that matches their hardware launch (apps that make full use of the new hardware).

I need some killer games that make me salivate for the latest tech for me to even think about upgrading my iPad Pro that I purchased a year ago.

Straight port of the original game (obviously adapted for touch controls)

The thing is i'm sure its not 'too difficult' to do that. Eg via Dosbox ages back i could play Dark Forces and many others. If we had a port of Red Alert that would be incredible.

Instead we'll get a better looking game (to be fair) but multiplayer, no doubt always online, 78000 game centre achievements, IAP's and more no doubt ! (But it'll look good !)

Would prefer the original by far. So many games out there just doing nothing sadly - cant even play Duke Nukem 3d or Doom due to the 32 bit appocalypse

    Miss those old games !

Huge fan of Dosbox. It’s been ages since I’ve had any desktop computer but I do remember picking up the Might & Magic collection on Good Old Games and being very happy with how dosbox handled the entire collection.
