Agree 100% I've wiped quite a few developers off my buy list, it wouldn't be allowed in retail in most countries so I guess laws are are still behind when it comes to online consumer protection. Apple should be setting a standard but it doesn't seem to care a great deal at this stage. Only power consumers have is future purchasing, or rather choosing not to at the moment. People who allow this sort of thing and promote developers that do it are part of the problem.
I think connector nailed it here. I can understand why a company may release a paid game, get completely overlooked in the App Store, make $100 in sales and say, "It's either we go freemium or broke." I get why they might go freemium. Sadly, though, this has become more the rule than the exception.
I agree with that, i try to buy games immediately so the dev gets the full money, i dont wait for price drops. I dont like freemium (I still believe that if we all bought games on release day we'll get less and less freemium) BUT i can see why 'some' devs have to move to freemium as that makes them sadly more money Its crazy, some kid doesnt like a game as its say $1.99 so waits for it to be free, BUT theyre happy pumping dollar after dollar into some freemium title !??! Bizarre. Prices are SOO cheap, whether you are 14 years old or 34 years old. Games are dirt cheap, again (deep breath !) back in the 80's premier games were $12 or near that, we didnt get much pocket money but still bought as many games as we could. It depresses me everytime someone moans about some 99p game and moan that they completed it in 5 hours or it only has 12 levels etc. Dont know how lucky you are.
Games are SO cheap today. You're right. The App Store is a weird anomaly in the history of gaming - and it wasn't always like this. But talking the '80s, games were, on average, much more expensive than $12 in my neck of the woods - $30 was cheap back then. I remember buying Super Street Fighter 2 for almost $80! Crazy, I know! And today it's "lolzorz $2.99 ima wait price drop me haz cookie."
