Jenna uses Photoshop CS5 and for general art, I think Josiah uses CharacterMucker1999. XD That's cool. I'm not huge on Smoothie myself. Maybe after we update it, I will like it more... For now, I think it's a bit too raw and I still have that bitter taste in my mouth from the days when development was happening. The art on it is pretty sweet though! Haha. I would love that! Any novel ideas? We're trying to avoid the typical zomibie effects we see all around... But zombies are fun. (Atleast I think so anyway.)
Any word yet when Apple is gonna approve Dirt and put it on the app store? I'm dying to play it haha.
That's a good start It might happen - if we have a game to wrap around it. XD Maybe Broken Kings zombies where the zombies are caricatures of us or something... Not just yet. It's "waiting for review" right now.
My disposition on this position I am Lopi. We are at Game Jam right now and we came up with an AWESOME idea. It's not Dirt level of awesome, at least not yet, but we're all still pretty excited for it. The word we were given, to base our game on, was "extinction". So our game is about the human population on Earth being infected with a plague and facing extinction. The remaining humans escape in these shuttle pods that are programmed to stick together. Unfortunately some of the pods escaped with plagued people and you must keep them from infecting the other pods through touch. You do this by tapping the screen to push them apart. Sound easy? Maybe it is, but we're hoping it won't be TOO easy. I am Lopi.
About 5AM and we're still going. Stephen is learning boids. Josiah is doing art stuff. Jenna is doing art stuff too. Lopi is being a monkey. I'm prattling around on the intarwebs. That's it for night 1 of Global Game Jam
Castle can give it all I am Lopi. And it is QUARTER to 7 in the morning. I feel a little weird, and my brain isn't as sharp as it normally is, so I'm gonna sleep for a bit. I thought I was gonna not sleep at all, but it looks like Josiah might be the only one doing that. But I got the background starriness done and it looks sexy, even with programmer art, so I'm insanely excited for the REAL art. Well, I better make a progress video before I go to sleeeeeeeep. I am Lopi.
It's been a crazy day. Last night I encountered a problem with the way I was going to control the pod movement - they're supposed to move towards each other constantly, and I was using gravity to do so. This of course led to problems like, when they got close to each other, they would basically fly into each other then fling away from each other. So I've had to research + implement flocking, an algorithm that does the same kind of thing but accounts for other factors, including keeping them a good distance apart from each other. Unfortunately ... that was actually too complex for what I needed and after a night of learning and implementing flocking, I ended up cutting about 70% of it. Now I'm tweaking #'s to make it work, and wondering if I might need to put some of the gravity logic back in. tl;dr - Ooh, pretty screenshots! This is a screenshot from last night, a couple of hours after the initial design was done. This is as far as I got before I hit the brick wall that I text-walled above This is a screenshot from now, they're not moving as I want yet but now Josiah's art is in and they're not flinging around each other.
We haven't really talked about it at this point, but most games we are making are sitting in the $0.99-$1.99 range, so it's safe to say this one will as well
I'm new to the forums and I just stumbled upon your thread and read up on what you guys were doing. I really have to give you guys a big hands up to what you guys are doing. I only went through the first two pages of the thread and watched the youtube video in the beginning, but I'm positive you guys will make a huge smash in the coming days. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing great apps from you guys!
Thanks for the kind words! We're looking into things like that right now, if any should happen you'll hear about it here so stay tuned And now some more pictures: This is a picture of us last night at Global Game Jam taken by a fellow jammer ... as of typing we are still here finishing up our game, which is due in about 17 hours The title screen as it currently looks TO THE PODS!!! Game started: One of the pods is infected! If you don't keep it away from the other pods, they too will become infected!
Some new title screens: A minor modification to the title screen Game in progress with a lot more pods A new level begins - this one with three infected pods Interesting fact: This weekend, development started at 10pm, and it ends at 3 tomorrow, yet we're in better shape than we've been for one of our weekend things than we have been yet.
It's one hour until the deadline, we are pretty close but making some last minute tweaks We haven't eaten yet today, so we're glad for it to be over so we can eat soon, then go home and sleep!
