Every aspect of this is what I would want out of this type of game. The art style, music, gameplay mechanics...wonderful. The opening cinematic, which can be rewatched from the menu, tells the wordless narrative succinctly and beautifully. I've been able to play for just under an hour today and I have had a completely positive and enjoyable experience. On the eighth or ninth puzzle, after repeated attempts, I realized the order and type of gears I would need. I hit that joyous point in good gaming where you realize the solution and your hands can't keep up with how fast your brain wants to finish the puzzle. My fingers were flying to throw the gears in their proper places, followed by a sigh of triumphant relief. There have been numerous points already in this game where I am excited to finish a puzzle but feel regretful that eventually I will run out of puzzles to solve. I'm nowhere near finished either. I'm also excited to share this with my students tomorrow. Most are LD/ED/both, but LOVE puzzles and puzzle games. The speed and calming setting of this will be a perfect fit for those kids. Thank you for making this game and giving me the opportunity to try it early. Rest assured that I will be promoting this to all of the teachers who have iPad availability in their classrooms.
Thank you so much for your feed back Kristoffer, cloudpuff. much appreciated. I hope we will get some more feed backs from other player's who managed to download the game
Hmmm... is there no main thread for this? If not, hope a mod can move the impressions to a thread in the iPhone-iPad games section. Anyway... on to the game - At first, I wasn't really sure if I was going to enjoy it. The art looks great, and the trailer looked fantastic - but it's usually hit n miss with me and these types of games. They're either too easy, or too complex. I did enjoy Enigmo, though I did feel it took a little longer than it should have to get into the bigger, more complex puzzles, it was very enjoyable. Now... A Mechanical Story. I really really want to like this game. It seems like the puzzles are going to get pretty complex, but in a very good way. I love how the reverse buttons work and how you need to do everything in a specific order. Yes, it does mean that some trial and error is going to come into play, but personally, I enjoy that. The problem is... everything doesn't line up. The gears will sometimes get stuck for... well, quite a while. Long enough that I was looking at the puzzle and hovering over the retry button, wondering what in the world I could have done wrong when everything finally slowly started snapping into place, giving me 3 stars and completing the puzzle. With a game like this - involving so much trial and error, this issue is pretty big, and adds a lot of unnecessary frustration into the equation. I really, REALLY hope that something can be done about it, because it seems like there's a fantastic game here.
Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your impression and feed back syntheticvoid. The upcoming update will be containing fixes that will improve the physic engine. If all goes well, the game will be released with the improved version on the 5h of November.
I am sorry for late feedback. Anyway, as I expected from the trailer, I really liked this game! I liked that to complete the level, a specific order must be followed. And no constraints of time! Most of the mini games will score based on the time or the points reached for a determined time, but this one does not! There will be lots of trial and error, but the fun is when you complete the level and earn 3 stars. Agreed with syntheticvoid, sometimes the gear will get stuck for no reason and you tend to find out what's wrong while there is nothing wrong! I'm glad that the released version will not have this problem anymore. Secondly, the game's title is A Mechanical Story, but there is no story inside. I felt the game was kinda empty. So this is just my suggestion. Completing the main chapter will unlock comic pages (or any other medium) that contain the story of the boy fixing the robot (I took from the trailer). And like the trailer that can be played back, these comic pages should be available for later viewing as well. Lastly, is it just me or is the music volume really way too low?
Thanks for the feedback chain94! We've been working the stuck gears issue and will increase the overall volume of the game along with this update. As soon as that update is approved we will have a new batch of promo codes to give away!
