A Beardy Love Story - 'Tache, In Development Now!

    Hello everyone! This week at Tribal City Interactive, the boss has taken leave, leaving 3 programmers and a producer free reign to work on a game of our choosing. As with most great Irish ideas, the design of this game was decided upon over pints in the pub.

    That is why we are pleased to announce the Tribal City 5 Day Game Project, during which we will be working on 'Tache:

    'Tache is a top-down perspective, adrenaline-fueled, highscore based action game. The player takes the role of a disembodied-daredevil-moustache, whose objective is to approach and narrowly avoid the razors who intend to chop him up. 'Tache will be available on iPhone.

    Needless to say, we are excited to be working on this game for the week, and will be glad to answer any questions or take any feedback on the game.

    Please keep an eye on the OP of this thread for screenshots, features, and other updates every day this week. We hope you will follow our progress for the next 5 days.

    We've been having a debate here at the office about what to call our team, but so far have failed to come to a conclusion. As such we have decided to leave it in the hands of the people following the project. Nominate a team name in bold and we'll narrow them down to our favourites.

    The Enemy
    The antagonist you're going to be dealing with is The Blade. This rusty devil likes nothing more than to chop away facial hair, but the 'Tache loves nothing more than to troll him:

    120-Second Shave Mode:
    The 'Tache has 2 minutes to score as many points as possible and beat the previous high-score. Hitting an enemy in this mode will lower the amount of blades, and cost the player the chance to rack up more points. This will ramp up the need for more dangerous enemy evasions. Gaining points is based on proximity to the enemy. As such, players will need to find themselves coming within a pixel's width of a nasty shave the longer the clock runs down, and once the 2 minutes is up, their score is final. Until they try again.

    The 'Tache
    Here he is, the player character.

    As you can see, he grows scruffier over time. This is based on the player's own performance, the better they play, the more groomed the 'Tache!

    Story Mode
    A story option can be accessed from the main menu at any time, allowing the player to read the (lengthy) backstory of the 'Tache. Here is a snippet taken from the middle of the story, where the 'Tache and his owner fight an aggressive dog with unkempt paws:

    HighScore Mode:
    This singleplayer mode allows the game to run on into infinity, the only restrictions being the player's skill. The game increases in difficulty with time, incrementing the level of blades onscreen at one time. Once the 'Tache is hit by a razor, it dies and the highscore is saved. Friend's highscores are displayed at the end of the level.

    Multiplayer
    Having gone into the singleplayer modes yesterday, we have decided to release more information regarding the multiplayer aspect of 'Tache. The rules of multiplayer are the same as that of the 120 Second Shave mode, razors must be avoided, narrowly, to pick up the best score possible within 2 minutes. A ghost image of the other player is displayed onscreen at all times, giving the player an idea of their performance. If the other player achieves an impressive 1000 point evade, the player will be put under pressure to match it.

    First update! We're glad to see the reaction to this project. Several things to report:
    - Fear not, we currently considering something for Movember.

    Today, we are going to show off some of the completed art, as well as detail one of the gameplay modes.

    Wednesday Update:

    It is time to reveal information regarding the other singleplayer modes in the game. This new mode accompanies the 120 Second Shave mode described above. In addition, we have prepared some (non-final version) screenshots of the game! See below.

    Astute readers will notice the use of the word 'singleplayer'. We can confirm that the game does possess a multiplayer element, which we will detail in a later update.

    A long awaited update to the game.

    Everyone will be happy to know that 'Tache has finally been submitted to the app store. So check back here often because as soon as we get accepted we will post here again to let you all know that its out the door.

    The game will be free and we hope you enjoy playing it as we did making it.
