Dungeon generation does not appear to be random. However, the level designs seem intentional and well implemented with gographically interesting dungeons and open above ground areas. One thing 9th Dawn well is use a limited line of sight / fog of war dynamic complement level designs in a way that increases tension.
My perception is that the battery drain is fair. Battery life isn't as good as you'd expect with graphics of this nature but charge should persist for some time. In part because the dungeons and graphics are darker you may want to turn the brightness up higher than normal. Playing the game, the earthy backgrounds work well for the content but perhaps not for your battery.

Similar to Cavern? I'm guessing the automap continues to popuate and stay filled in despite the LoS?

Edit: Sorry, I was referring to the LoS/automap only, not the randomly-generated dungeons.

9th Dawn has no "automap". With 9th Dawn you get full surface map access immediately so line of sight has not impact on map. However, in dugneons there is no map at all.

On the surface there is a general world map with layout completely visible that has a miniture version visible in the upper left corner of gameplay area (but lacks details about caves, enemy whereabouts etc just showing general geography; similar to Final Fantasy IV's world map). In some ways (map location) that's similar to Cavern, assuming you have full explored a Cavern level so there is total access to viewing floorplay map layout...

Here's a blurry example of the world map in the upper left corner, you can also click on it to see a larger overall map (similar to The Quest). Image quality doesn't represent the game.

I just started playing this game but the brightness is an issue for me. I always use my phone on full brightness and right now I'm outside on an overcast day, but the dark areas make it hard to see versus the natural light. I think a gamma option could help with this but I don't know how hard it would be to implement for the devs.

The brightness issue aside the game has very good mechanics and I plan on rocking this more when I'm in a darker setting.

EDIT: I'm an idiot and had to fix some typing errors

If you are talking about Kelan, he just walked into the nearby town to show you where it was, haha (Agaria on the world map). There is a potential bug with the Ellerin escort quest where you can lose him and break the quest. It isn't game breaking since it is a side quest, but we are trying to figure out a good way to redo/fix that quest...

    I have a question Valorware :)

Is the iOS version en par with the Android version content wise?

Keep up the good work! 9th Dawn is truly a mobile rpg gem :)
I'm almost lvl 30 now and there is no end in sight ^_^

Day 2 of playing, some things to say:

1.) man, this game is good.
2.) why are early low level Mobs running around with incredibly valuable level 65 crossbows?

That is all. Everyone should buy this.

Good lord, this game is vast! I just spent nearly half an hour tackling a dungeon that I just happened upon while taking a leisurely stroll. At one point while traversing its multiple levels I lost track of why I was flipping switches... I was genuinely worried about getting lost and having to resort to using a Dragon Wings. But it was worth it, I think I came out about 50k silver richer in loot and with oodles of experience.

    Nekku,

It is exactly the same. The iOS version isn't a port; they both use the exact same code (with a few settings changed to meet iOS guidelines :))

Great! Thanks for answering my question ;)

I've had a first run with an mage. What should i say...on level 6 his frost bolt spell did way more damage then my level 30 ranger with magic bow o_O haha
The regeneration spell also feels much more comfortable then eating hundreds of apples and meat hehe
I feel a lil bit underpowered now playing my Ranger :D
Sadly i'm not able to read the descriptions of locked spells so i dunno if is there real crowd control possible on higher levels. Would be awesome.
Anyone here with high level mage experience? :)

Is this a rogue-like or there are saves?

I dont know why, but I have less of a negative reaction to the old school graphics if its a rogue-like.

There are saves and death just takes you back to your spawn point.

This is not a roguelike, there is a robust autosave system and you can manually save anywhere. Although the action mechanics could be best compared to roguelikes on iOS. It's an open world traditional RPG. The graphics are simple but I find them nostalgic.

Bought the game after reading it was a failed kickstart that got made anyway. I felt the need to support dedicated devs.

    1) Too dark. Really needs adjusted contrast. I get there is a style idea here but it isnt working out obviously.

    2) Dual stick controls are wonky. Wish this was turn based. Especially annoying on my phone where as a Mage my thumb is constantly blocking my view because of the odd "slingshot" spell casting. But, since it isnt and never will be turn based I would say ditch the slingshot mechanic. I never understand why this is a popular feature in any ios game but I will say this game does it -very- well and the aiming is great.

    3) Mages seem a bit over powered in general. Enemy mages have no "slingshot" system and simply rapid fire magic missiles, especially problematic when facing groups of casters. Chaingun goblin shamans are not a lot of fun when they 2 shot you...

Really neat game though. I wish it the best even though it just may not be for me.

@Valorware - Have you guys considered a permadeath option? Permadeath would make a great toggle setting.

    I agree.

Also, my first impressions of this game are amazing. I am very glad I purchased it! Great work with this title!

You can turn off that slingshot effect by unchecking the invert axis in the game menu.
