Quite possibly the most stupid comment I have read all week. A crappy little iPod Touch game will NOT, repeat... WILL NOT ever come close to emulating any console quality GTA game. No matter how hard Gameloft try to rip it off. You wanna-be gamers really piss me off.
I played the game, and I enjoyed it very much. It is not a GTA clone though, more of a Max Payne-clone. Very linear, but also with a nice story (still the trade mark cheesy voice acting, though that has improved a bit). A few bits of Heavy Rain at times ( when you interrogate a suspect), but mainly it is a story sriven Max Payne-like thing. Not as direct a clone as we are used to from Gameloft.
You obviously don't realise that this game isn't like GTA, it's a third person shooter. He thinks the gameplay looks better than GTA San Andreas, which is fair enough. Maybe he likes action third person shooters and dislikes open world gang games. I know I'd much rather play Galaxy on Fire 2 on iOS than play a Halo game on the console. They both futuristic games involving space and planets, but they are different genres. And if you think that all console games are superior in terms of quality then you couldn't be more wrong.
No, you don't understand. I KNOW its not like GTA. Anyway. I had an iPod touch 2. And then got a 4th gen and now I have an iPad. Some may say that is a bit of downgrade but I prefer the larger screen, the bigger prices for the same game is also a nice bonus. I have played console games all my life and I have many friends that actually study game development at university and I am really not in any need of any explanation of any gaming genres. Thank you. Anyway, I do really enjoy many games on the iPad/iPod but nobody in their right minds can say that the quality of games on the iPod rival console games, its just not possible at this stage. Also, Halo is a very bad example. I myself would rather play Galaxy On Fire 2 than Halo. But those two don't even compare, Halo is a first person shooter that happens to have a level where you fly a space ship, and that's it. And that's exactly what I am saying, I am saying console games are superior in quality to handheld games... If you DON'T think that then I dread to think what your 6, 000 + posts have been about. I could say its down to preference but anybody that's played a console, with the controller in their hand, they KNOW, that is the better way to game rather than touch controls which are quite frankly pretty unresponsive compared to a nice controller. Come on, don't be so biased. This is why I hate this website. You kids actually believe your devices rival MAJOR consoles when they really don't. They are good and they have many great games, some of my favourites are BattleHeart, GOF2, PuzzleQuest2, Cut The Rope, GTA:CW, Dungeon Hunter 2, MiniGore, DofusBattlesHD, and a few others which I can't think of at the moment. But even with those games and many others, PSP and the DS still have better games, let alone console games... Its getting there, but until the AppStore users actually GROW UP and starts paying real money for REAL GAMES then the AppStore will be forever flooded with the likes of Angry Birds and rip-off games that many console and pc gamers would only play when they are sitting on the toilet or waiting for a train. End of.
Shush - could you be more arrogant? "you kids" etc. Really? I am 39 and editor in chief of one of the major gaming sites. Does that make me right? No. Neither does your reasons. That you define quality as having a pad and better graphics (?) doesn't make you right or everybody else wrong (or stupid kids for that matter). Get of your high horse. Edit: and to not de rail the thread. Yes I agree they cannot rival consoles in technical terms. But if people enjoy gaming more on these platforms, what keeping them from calling that a more qualitative experience? It is after all their experience. An 9 mm seemed to me a better experience than lets say Hunted: demons forge (just to name a recent console game thats so-so).
To be fair to shush- i sympathise with the point that he's making. Console games have also had a lot longer to develop and refine their software repertoire, and it's only really in the last 1-2 years that smartphone/ mediaplayer gaming have really a) taken off, and b) gotten more serious attention from game companies. The future WILL hold some extremely good games, which i have no doubt will be on a par, if not superior to many of their console counterparts. Currently, you have guys like EA, who are really stepping up their game, with titles like NBA Jam, and Dead Space, which is, let's face it, a whole new chapter in the series, created specifically for iOS. Indie devs continue to push out unique, creative and extremely polished games that truly are some of the freshest content on offer. But, on the other hand, you have things like Capcom's workaday efforts (although credit where credit is due, Monster Hunter and SFIV, although definitely cut-down from their original source, are in their own right actually very good gaming experiences.) Except, @Shush- you were dismissing other members' arguments and calling the rest of us 'wannabe gamers'. Your opinion is NOT the only one which is valid, or important, and you came across as an arrogant, self-righteous d-bag. If you hate this site so much, don't post here. I hope that you stay, and can find stuff here that you like, and you join in the discussion, continuing to enjoy the games that are out, as well as ones that come out for iOS in the future, but please- tone it down a little, because you won't make any friends by posting in the way that you did. I'm sure you were just having a bad day, right?
@ shush Ah ok, so you're a narrow-minded troll. Now I understand. I gave the examples of GoF2 and Halo because they don't compare. Just like 9mm and GTA: SA. Different people have different preferences. And the original guy that you quoted preferred the gameplay of 9mm to GTA: San Andreas. But you have a problem with that, only because you are so narrow-minded and arrogant. Also I never said that the quality of 9mm would exceed the quality of GTA: San Andreas, and I feel that most console games are of a higher quality than most iOS games. However, my point was that not all console games offer the same level of quality and polish. There are some crappy console games with poor quality in comparison to some of the best iOS games. Oh and you don't speak for everyone when you say the DS and PSP are better handheld consoles. Just another example of your narrow-mindedness. Jeez, you really are pathetic.
I'm a huge fan of iOS gaming, but I disagree here. Completely. Not to put the iOS on a pedestal, but show me any apps that come even remotely close to the likes of MGS Peace Walker, Chains of Olympus, or Vice City Stories.
Those games are good (especially the actual gameplay), but for me the controls and graphics are better with iOS games. IMO there are many iOS games that are better than the best PSP games. To name a few: Real Racing 2, Modern Combat 2, NOVA 2, Galaxy on Fire 2, World of Goo, Aralon: Sword and Shadow, Dead Space etc. I know you'll disagree and that's ok. But acting as though one's opinions are the right opinions is not ok (I'm talking about shush here).
I meant in terms of sales and success. Though I'm more of a casual gamer, so I don't really like those games you listed.
My turn to take a slice of the cake @shush - Wannabe gamers huh? Is that why we have GTA, Dead Space, and LEGO Harry Potter? It's people like you that put TouchArcade on a sour note. You act like your opinions rules over every other opinion here. Maybe if you would GROW UP and learn that iOS gaming is stepping up and kicking ass, then you wouldn't be so idiotic. And btw, I kinda wish you were a wannabe troll. Unfortunately, you're just a real troll.
