I just checked, and it looks like a bunch of extra digits get added in somehow; is that what you meant? The leaderboard order appears to be correct though, and I think the first digits are actually the correct score?

    That does seem about right.

Oh, did anybody else notice some extra sneaky aspects of Step?

Yeah, those other digits are tiebreakers. I think it's something like

    Gamecenter score =
    1,000,000,000,000 if you won +
    1,000,000,000 x score +
    100,000,000 x sector reached +
    1,000,000 x credits left +
    10,000 x energy left +
    100 x siphons left +
    1 x programs

It's the extra extra sneaky aspects of SHOW that'll blow your mind. Not to mention the 1 credit cost unlockable program which when you think really hard about it becomes amazing.

This game is really brilliant. The more I play, the more I enjoy it. I still suck, but I'm getting there :p

Same here. I also love how, in a large part, as mentioned earlier by andrewdoull, you are your own worst enemy in this game. The only way to get points and more useful programs is to siphon firewalls, but by siphoning firewalls you're bringing about a lot more baddies and increasing the odds of the run coming to an abrupt end.

Oh snap, I rescind my earlier whine if this is intentional! Almost like some binary code there, very appropriate. I actually like the idea of incorporating all of the elements into the score but since this wasn't explained anywhere it looked like a really broken leaderboard.

Perhaps in an update we'll be able to see the top 10 Friends scores in game as well?

It was literally in binary during the beta for a while. That was really hard to read.

Well then I definitely prefer this pretend binary!

Oh I made the mistake to unlock all programs and locked them right away as it takes away a lot of the fun.

The most useful for me are:

    .RESET
    .WAIT
    .STEP

Then I try to fight off enemies with:

.ANTI-V (those viruses move so damn fast)
.DEBUG (hehe, lot of fun to trap them)
    .D-BOM

    Next I try to get:

    .PUSH
    .SHOW
    .SCORE
    .EXCH

Yeah that would be nice, I'll try to put that in an update.
It might not be in the first update though - I've had reports of it crashing for a couple of people (AAAARGH) so fixing that's my priority right now.

& yeah you've figured out how the score/tiebreak encoding works. (Also, if you touch the high scores in the game it tells you the list of progs they were using; and in the streak score it gives the stats of the latest game in the streak; it was a bit of a squeeze to get all that information to fit into gamecenter.)

    Hey MB,

What is some of this scary stuff I read in the bigger streak scores like "Daemon Resistance" or "Virus Improved Speed"?

Keep playing! You'll discover it on your own soon enough, once you start stringing three or four runs together.

Fair enough, I just learned the benefits of actually clearing the 8 sectors for once! ;)

Was it just flavor text at the end or does, "you now have a faster keyboard" mean anything?

I got a faster modem - does anybody still recall using modems? :D

Two consecutive runs - and I'm hooked more than ever! :)

I must comment on what a breath of fresh air it is to be playing a great game. Not a great port. Or a great game "for the platform". Just a great game. For any platform. Unique. Pure. Deep. Earnest. We need more of these.

It's been a while since I've seen you this charged up for a game, Gabien, and I completely concur with you on this one. It blows my mind that MB could make something this powerful in only 6MB.

The game has been getting some positive coverage on a few other gaming web sites. Hopefully, TA will pick up on it soon and give it some love.

I was going to try it but $6?! I'm against "race to the bottom" pricing but this looks like a .99 to 1.99 kind of game.

It is very much worth the price. I have no idea if it will sell as well as it deserves at this price, but it's the best $6 I've spent in some time.
