I guess it could be considered both endless and not, at the same time In typical Michael Brough fashion things are done a little differently and it is interesting (and fun!). Each individual game you start can be completed and have an ending. However, you will notice a different leaderboard for streak score. That could be considered endless. Get a streak of completed games going and things start to change...won't say anymore as discovery is part of the fun.
Thanks, xjaff - aka 'leaderboard killer' Yesterday I was victorious and I'm 'still running' & 'alive' \o/ Freaking love this game.
Sweet Victory! Awesome, you are progressing so fast! I am so happy you jumped in on this gem, I think it has put its hooks in you now Edit: I love the victory comments in the game too...you got yourself a faster keyboard!
the one thing I would love with this game is if it could rotate to portrait if requires - a la Zaga-33. Purely for standing on trains with the progs at the bottom or something. Someone must have asked before but if there was a way to perfect perfection that would be it for me. 3 more progs to unlock for me before I start score chasing xjaff et al. Just saw how many runs on Andrew Doull's Streak Score. Man, that's some thing. Proper well done.
Zaga-33 is awesome too! I still play that on my commute sometimes. Yea, the high scores and streaks for 868-hack are crazy good - I don't know how they do it. I have sort of plateaued on my scores now, expecting you will overtake me soon! I am going have to start experimenting and looking for new approaches. Such an amazing game.
Feel free to hit me up if you want strategy advice. I spoil a bunch in the podcast I did about the game.
Agree about portrait. I remember someone requesting it soon after the game's release and M. Brough replying that it would be a lot more difficult to implement than one would expect. Love that this new update has refreshed this thread. I really have to give this game some time and attention soon. So good. I'm considering re-locking the progs so I can go through again and relearn all the basics.
That's exactly what I just did - just unlocked them all again. What a game!! It's kept me off the desert, golfing.
Question for the multi-streak runners out there, does the character actually improve between runs? Like does having a "faster keyboard" mean something in the game? I know once you lose a run you go back to square 1 and that the game has lots of interesting ways to make succesive runs nastier and nastier, but I swear the character improved ever so slightly as well.
i can't believe I'm going to listen to a podcast about a game later but I am. My wife is going to kill me.
Anyone know how high scores are calculated in Classic mode? Like, are points less important than finishing a game 'alive' with siphons, credits, and energy remaining? This may be really obvious but now I'm unsure. Thanks in advance for any info or advice.
Actually, I've been puzzled by this same question since I started comparing scores - which was almost immediately
I'm not 100% sure but once you've done 8/8 then it's only your score on completion that counts - eg I got around 60 odd yesterday by smacking the .score prog but i only got to level 4/8 so it didn't top my top 8/8 score.
I believe it's super straight forward. Your score is JUST points earned from siphoning point blocks (blocks without progs, but simply spawn x amount of baddies) and uses of your .score program, and even then, ONLY counts if you complete the run.
This is interesting, I have not noticed this happening (although my streaks generally last only 2 or 3 games ). I am going to watch for this though to see if I can see any improvements across streak games.
Yes before Game Center disappeared you could see how scores were stored, he had an interesting way of including all the score info in one single score entry. I can't remember the details or specifics anymore, but yes the completion of the game is essential to the score. Completion pretty much gives a huge bonus, it adds about a million to your score. Score 64 and die on sector 4, your score is 64 Score 64 and clear sector 8, your score is 1,000,0064
