So, I know that everybody has moved on, but I just have to share - apparently Spoiler going to the North Pole and back counts?! Do other circumnavigations that don't even approximately cover the Earth circumference also count, I wonder? Pretty sure that wasn't the case in the novel, heh. Not that I am complaining - that route is awesome and quite difficult to complete. This game just keeps giving.
You will run into a member of the military if you explore and will be given opportunity to steal it from him.
A map compiled by myself after many playthroughs of the game: Map link https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9e1xv6y_7W8bFhFQ1ZFT1ZuRlE/view?usp=sharing Instructions https://docs.google.com/document/d/1alF-dO4o1KgKNyAFrfZAVi02OBrFLQIKxyblQTbmeSU/edit?usp=sharing Hope it is useful to you!
I have a problem in India. I can't get to Calcutta. I was in Benares, Waltair and Madras. There are routes but they are somehow white or light grey and when I want to plan no ship departures or anything else might going to Calcutta is available... I have that stupid sitar and want the 4k for it. Aside from that I must say, no I have to shout: This one of the best games I ever played! Thank you inkle for that brilliant game! Honestly! More of this please. Maybe next time something like travel in space. Our solar system for a start
A minor update to my map posted a short while earlier. Fixed a little inaccuracy near Athens, Irkutsk and Urga. Here you go: Map v1.1 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9e1xv6y_7W8XzNIVC1VZk54bm8/view?usp=sharing **Spoilers, maybe** There should be a mechanical elephant to Calcutta from Benares. And there is a ship ("Western Flower", or something similar) heading to Calcutta from Madras. No direct route from Waltair, however. You may want to refer to the map I made if you have similar questions.
Just checked the route you probably took. It seems impossible to get back onto the same ship to Calcutta after taking its Waltair->Madras leg. Not a singular case (the 'Mongolia' from Suez to Aden and Bombay comes to mind), but sadly you missed your only chance to get to Calcutta after not taking that elephant. Guide has been updated to reflect this discovery. On a side note, it shouldn't be possible to be in Madras with only routes to Waltair or Colombo. Either you come from Waltair, leaving you with the single route to Colombo; or you arrive from the west or south, opening up the route to Calcutta as well.
80 Days - My Quickest Route After the third or fourth time I'd played I went out through Cambridge and then through the Scandinavian countries. From there through the North Pole and then back took in the range of 23 days.
Hey guys, I wrote a FAQ/Walkthrough and posted it on GameFaqs. Feedback would be nice ... additional questions and corrections. I've already found a few errors which will be in the next update! Respectfully, Brian P.
Finally a FAQ for this game. Nice job! Good to see such devotion among us players. Information is very comprehensive and detailed, too, especially in the story section. A few suggestions here... In general, I don't think it is wise to include unverified information in your FAQ, like: "I have not explored this option in great detail, but I suspect doing so will save Mr. Fogg the cost of a room but will cost him some health points." "I do not believe he will be able to withdraw more than 20000 pounds from this source." Writing as such lowers the reliability of the guide. So I suggest either verifying them yourself or omit them altogether. Another example is the numbers you quoted in your guide, like: "You will need a minimum of 13,000 pounds to travel the world". I would love to see more concrete evidence since you are quoting an apparently exact value. (And I strongly doubt this given the complexity of the routes available in the game.) And here goes the long list of items that I humbly suggest revising: General/Overview section 1) There are 2 distinct type of trade goods from my experience. Some can be sold in a number of cities (three nearby cities will be mentioned when checking the item) for a small gain (e.g. the stopwatch); some can only be sold in exactly one city for a huge gain (e.g. dino jaw bone), miss the city and the item is essentially worthless. You may want to separate them in your guide. 2) "Never accept any option which risks blowing up a vehicle's engines" There are many similar options that may or may not speed up a journey. I think it isn't a sound enough advice. 3) "Do not ever visit the bank if you can possibly help it." While true to a certain extent, I think it is nice to visit the bank whenever you are waiting for a departure a few days away. The bank doesn't charge you for interest, so it's always good to have more funds. 4) You may want to mention the sequence of exploring a city (e.g. explore first or hotel first) can have consequences on dialog options. 5) "The doctor will provide one of two options: Either restoration to full health after a period of 4-5 days, or 10 health points immediately." I have seen cases when Fogg can be healed completely within 2 days. The doctor can also heal more (25 points in my case) of Fogg's health. 6) "This airship will carry you directly to Bangalore" Are you sure you don't mean Rangoon? 7) "Vladivostok is closed to non-military personnel. It is possible to gain access through an adventure in Omsk" You can still board the outbound routes without being thrown in jail or having the permit. You just need to know of the route beforehand and don't explore/hotel in Vladivostok. 8) "exit the railroad at Irkutsk and take either the caravan to Agra" It's Urga. 9) "Brisbane allows one to take the southern route to Lima, which may be diverted to Panama City." I think the one that can be diverted is the route starting from Auckland. Routes Section 1) Missing: Rome to Izmir route (assist the Scuola instead) 2) "Bucharest-Minsk" It should be a train route? 3) Missing: Thessaloniki to Istanbul route 4) Missing: Warsaw to Budapest 5) "Warsaw-Minsk" Can continue on to Moscow. 6) "Tromso-Stockholm" Or is it to Helsinki? 7) Missing: Antalya to Baghdad route (take both rides by automaton driver) 8) "Antalya-Istanbul" How? 9) "Izmir-Antalya" Or by car... 10) Missing: Beirut to Manama route (alternate reward of finishing Sophos' task) 11) Missing: Ha'il to Baghdad route 12) "Herat-Quetta" Can continue on to Lahore. 13) "Herat-Waltair...After about 3 days you can divert to Delhi instead." Or Agra. 14) Missing: Ujiji to Stone Town route 15) Missing: Stone Town to Nsenga and Stone Town to Aden routes 16) "Antananarivo-Colombo" Can continue on to Madras. 17) About the Trans-Siberian Express, you can turn it to the almighty Maglev mode! (Try Vienna to Warsaw route first, else you can still do it later in the train) 18) Missing: Omsk to Kabul route 19) Missing: Bombay to Agra route (need a Artificer's medallion) 20) "Chittagong-Guwahati (False route; you cannot do this)" You CAN. Need an Indian Train Timetable (one is available from Fogg's Apartment in Seed III), then don't explore or sleep in hotel in Chittagong until departure day. And of course you missed the Guwahati to Pangsau Pass route. 21) "Going to Chittagong will close off the option to continue to Singapore/Hong Kong on the steamship." False. You can still board the ship. 22) "Urga-Beijing (Train 1 day) continues to: Canton (4 days)." You mean Hong Kong. 23) "Hong Kong-Manila (unknown; very often not available)" You need to take the Calcutta-Chittagong-Singapore-Hong Kong route and help the sick sailor hide. (BTW I suspect the game dialogue in Hong Kong-Manila and Manila-Hong Kong is swapped) 24) "Washington-Ponta Delgada" Can be diverted to London... or almost London. 25) Missing: Caracas to Bogota route 26) "Caracas-Dakar" How? 27) "Dakar-Tangier" Can be diverted to Lisbon. You may also refer to my map: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9e1xv6y_7W8TXNDRldTcFVhOW8/view?usp=sharing Adventures Section 1) Polar Expedition: I don't think you need three favors. Just keep Fogg above 0 health should do. Favors help, but I think you can do without. 2) About Paraffin, "I believe there are two such journeys: From Istanbul to Beirut, and from Baghdad to Tehran". I have used it on Port-au-Prince to Washington route too. Maybe you can also use it in the Brisbane-Auckland route. 3) Center of the Earth: I think you can only do it when you 'explore' before 'hotel' in Kristiania. 4) Bears: I think you also need to do the Stockholm-Helsinki route to meet the girl. 5) Murder on the Pacific: "The Captain promises free passage on trading ships and the only available one is the boat to Panama City" The banana boat to San Francisco is also free. 6) Sisters of Didacus: Or you can give them some junk (e.g. shard you got from Tehran or Antalya) in Madras and be done with it. This nets you a silver chest, an exquisite trading item. 7) Poisoner of Dakar: Just to add that failing the quest is the only way for you to go from Dakar to Timbuktu. Item Section 1) Urban Traveller: Double entry 2) Warm climate gear: Double entry Whew. That took so long.
I'll consider the discussion above but I know for a fact this one isn't true; I have lost Mr. Fogg with his health above 0 before, so the favors are critical. Exactly how many is up to debate. Respectfully, Brian P.
Other quick replies -- most of the stuff, as I said, is solid and will eventually be taken on board after I verify it myself , but it'll be awhile. >6) "Tromso-Stockholm" Or is it to Helsinki? Stockholm. >7) Missing: Antalya to Baghdad route (take both rides by automaton driver) I have played and replayed this game and I have not once seen this option, not in all the months I've been playing. I can go from Antalya to Istanbul or to Beirut, but I cannot travel directly to Baghdad from Antalya. >8) "Antalya-Istanbul" How? By car. There are car routes from Antalya to Istanbul and from Istanbul to Izmir. >9) "Izmir-Antalya" Or by car... Never seen that. The route from Izmir to Antalya is by fishing boat. >11) Missing: Ha'il to Baghdad route Never seen this. >17) About the Trans-Siberian Express, you can turn it to the almighty Maglev mode! (Try Vienna to Warsaw route first, else you can still do it later in the train) I've seen this conversion, but I've never seen it make a difference to travel times, so it went unremarked. Mr. Fogg would understand, I'm sure . >21) "Going to Chittagong will close off the option to continue to Singapore/Hong Kong on the steamship." False. You can still board the ship. Not if you've stayed in the hotel or explored. I'll check it even so, but once the revolution kicks off the only ways I could find out of town are by military airship to Imphal, by Revolutionary group to Rangoon, or with pilgrims to Yadanabon. >26) "Caracas-Dakar" How? By airship. It appears it isn't always available in all playthroughs. >) There are 2 distinct type of trade goods from my experience. I will be separating out premier trade goods (those which sell for extravagant amounts in one city) versus common trade goods (Which show up all over the map and are much more random) That said, the premier trade goods aren't essentially worthless outside the city -- you get them for dirt cheap and they will often sell for yellow (hundreds of pounds) in other cities besides the named ones, especially cities very near the target city. And besides -- even without yellow, the Gzhel Ceramic, as one example, is bought for a guinea (that's a pound, right) ? but it will sell almost anywhere for about 30 pounds. That's a thirty-fold increase! Likewise with the harem silks; even if you sell it right away, it's still a profit.
'Nother quick note: >10) Missing: Beirut to Manama route (alternate reward of finishing Sophos' task) You have to report to Sophos in Cairo, and to get to Cairo from Antalya you have to go through Beirut already, so there's no way to get back to Beirut to take such an option. You can't pass through any given city more than once.
Loading issues I just purchased this game for the ipad, but have been unable to play it. After launching the game, I get some intro text which just hangs there forever. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but to no avail. Anyone have any thoughts?
I clearly remember Fogg surviving despite at one point I can't do anything for him but cradling him and singing a song. Not gonna argue if you say so. Can't say I am very experienced concerning the arctic route. Just booted up the game and checked myself. There is indeed a Tromso-Helsinki route but no Tromso-Stockholm. I can try posting a screenshot if you really want proof. Spoiler - Take car from Izmir to Istanbul - Discover driver is an automaton - Tell him - Take car from Istanbul to Antalya. The driver remarks on you taking his car again. - The driver will ask you to help wind him up - He then offers the airship ride from Antalya to Baghdad I can confirm the car route from Istanbul to Antalya. But the other way around? I can't reveal it by exploring Antalya if there is one. Again, take car ride from Izmir to Istanbul. When talking to driver, he mention his parents are in Antalya. You can then say you want to go there right now. And he will divert you there. Bingo. Uh... Try going there again? It is revealed just by exploring. According to your guide, you will be forced to go on the tough journey to Rub' al-Khali if you arrive in Ha'il from Riyadh. This is certainly not the case. BTW you are also missing the Ha'il to Cairo route. I suppose you also convinced the driver right after departing from Moscow? I was sure the text said you saved days... Not gonna challenge you if you have actually counted it though. I thought as such before, but I remember getting on the ship at least once. And Passepartout mentioned how the revolutionaries sealed the railway station but not the port. Maybe you have to stay 1 or 2 nights? I am aware of Caracas-Freetown, but I never found the route to Dakar by exploring. And you stating the trip taking "approx. 3 days" doesn't install confidence in me. You're right. Not completely worthless, but it still stings when it says "worth 4800 in that fricking city I brushed by" lol. You don't need to pass through Cairo to get this. Spoiler - Take ship from Athens to Cairo - Sophos approaches; accept his quest BUT refuse a monetary reward. - Do quest in Antalya - Head to Beirut to get the ride from Sophos directly
Thanks, Vadex. I'll look at your stuff and I'll definitely incorporate some of it into the next edition. Don't expect it immediately, though .. first, because I have to independently verify it (everything in my waltkhroughs is on my own experience, not hearsay) , and second .. well, I'm going on vacation and my wife gets grumpy if I'm spending too much computer time under those circumstances . These are just the kind of constructive comments I was hoping for. Thanks! BTW, a spoiler is best marked off using brackets. I'll add a space to show. [ spoiler ] and [/ spoiler ] Take away the brackets and it shows up well. Respectfully, Brian P.
Okay, just checked Bombay-Agra (you're right) and Chittagong. Once you explore Chittagong the maritime route is permanently cut off. Sergeant Llewellyn told me, after saving his life, "The railways burned, and we'll be closing the port and setting up pickets to catch the revolutionaries" I waited 6 days and nothing changed. Screenshot Hmmm ... I wonder if there is a version or device conflict? I'm on android on version 1.0.6, the latest version for my device. What about you? Respectfully, Brian P.
