This isn't Ridge Racer, the tilt controls work in 8 Bit Rally incredibly well. It makes perfect sense. Why you would be baffled by such a well-implemented control scheme is far more baffling.
Are you deliberately misinterpreting my post? I was replying to syntheticvoid who said: "I can't think of one that would work better with touch controls". I gave an example of a racing game that does work better with touch controls. I'm not baffled by the tilt controls, I'm 'baffled' by the decision not to include the option for another perfectly viable control scheme that, in my opinion, would actually make the game better. Thankfully, Photon Creations are great guys and listen to feedback so it's only a matter of time until we find out whether I'm right or not.
That's the one I'm talking about. Why doesn't Angry Birds include head tracking? One guy might think it's a brilliant and viable option, a hundred guys might think so, but the game still works perfectly well with touch controls and isn't in dire need of alteration. If the controls works well, you'll be able to play it. These controls work well!
Tell you what, you give me a valid, coherent, well thought out argument as to why Angry Birds would be better with head tracking, citing other examples and I'll concede the point. Otherwise I'll be over here, setting fire to your ridiculous straw man, waiting for an update to prove me right or wrong.
what the... Wow, this thread transformed into something weird and rather unrelated... but let me say I LOVE THIS GAME! Has the late 80s / very early 90s vibe down *perfectly*. it controls just fine for me, the "map" screen is adorable, the AI of the enemy cars is so "Pole Position", this thing is great fun! Well done indeed.
THANK YOU!!! Rad Racer was the game I was thinking of!!! Now I've gotta look for it on e-bay... I've been trying to think of that game for MONTHS, ever since I got an NES console for my birthday... =oD But yeah... this game reminds me of it... =oP that's where I was going with that...
Lol!!! I had similar thoughts! Also, adding a big piece of red rock at that desert track in Australia will do us some pride (Uluru - name of the rock ) MOTION BLUR!!! The most awesome feature in creating sense of speed!!!
This is the point I'm making. The fact this game works so well with tilt controls, and has clearly been designed with tilt controls specifically in mind practically nullifies the need for alternatives. There are a million different control schemes you could add, catering to a million different peoples preferences, but in the end the game works just fine as is. If there were issues with it, if touch controls would actually make the game more accessible or easy to play (as is the case with many games) then sure, there's a reason for adding it... but in this case... it's just spot on.
Not read this thread yet but the first thing I thought was TOP GEAR on the snes, amazing looking app and I am buying it right now
Not sure why people are so whiny about this game. It's incredibly fun to play and I simply can't get enough of it. I am finding the later tracks difficult to place in the top 10, which also makes it very difficult to upgrade my ride. The tilt control makes the game very, very fun. Not sure I would use on-screen controls even if they were offered. The sense of speed is great in my opinion. The vintage feel is awesome. @Photon: What are some of the tweaks/improvements that you plan on making in the first update? Please don't abandon this game; I can't wait to see what else you can accomplish with this game. It made it onto my front page, and I don't see it going away any time soon. Thanks for a GREAT game!!!
I've already implemented on-screen touch controls. They work quite well too. I've also added the retina auto-filtering fix that MidianGTX mentioned. I think i might just make the first update with those 2 changes. Then concentrate on iPad support in update #2. We've had such a great response for this game compared to our other games, so we'll continue to support it for a while still. I've also been looking into website advertising to promote the game too. Try and get the app name out there. So definitely not abandoning it.
Lol, don't let some websites review your game until the touch button update is out, or the lack of it (if reviewed before the update) will be identified and forever remain on their sites Slidetoplay and TA post review impressions though...
Blimey, how many tracks are in this game? I've currently got a MkIII fully maxed out and still haven't reached the end. Not complaining though as it's terrific fun. Do we get to unlock the tracks to play when we want? I'd really like to go back and play some of my favourites without piling through the campaign. As someone here suggested, turning the tilt sensitivity setting up to max helps a lot but I'm still not enjoying waving my iPod about all over the place. Good to hear the touch controls are working well.
At first I thought I wasn't doing well enough to max out before the end but yeah I have a level 3 car fully upgraded and now all my money just goes on topping up my nitro. I noticed a bug, might already be said but on the level 3 car if you buy a gearbox you get speed, and if you buy the engine upgrade you get acceleration instead, they are mixed up. Love this game, been playing it most nights and still having a great time with it, a superb throwback to top gear and those old racing games.
The last stage was designed slightly differently assuming you would have a fully upgraded car & it's a bit faster paced. So you would need more nitro. We wanted to make it so you'd actually have some races to enjoy your fully upgraded car, rather then finally get the best car & then the game is finished. I'll check out the engine/gearbox issue. It was a bit hard to qualify engine/gearbox as one stat as they both improve speed & accel. So i wouldn't look too much into the stats
v1.1 has been approved App Link * On screen d-pad! Go into options to change the control type * Disabled retina filtering
wow, I just found this thread on page 8 and then you bump it Thanks for replying about the gearbox engine thing, I noticed it on the level 1 car last night so it might just be a global thing, yeah it doesn't change the game too much.
