The framerate is surprisingly low, but steady, even on a 3rd Gen Touch (64gb). The gameplay is fairly fun, and the turning controls work well, although you can't control the speed of your rolling. Because of that, you never really get a feel of excitement. But it's the IAP that kill the game. Sure you can earn Coins in small amounts by playing levels, but you'll have to grind a lot to make enough to buy new levels. Purchasing levels costs more and more coints, and even the $.99 IAP is only enough to buy about 5 of them... and still, you have to pay for different ball colours. Even the amount of content available is rather low. 10 levels in the starting world, and 1 level in each of 2 different worlds. Obviously they will add more levels to those other worlds, but I doubt I'll come back to play them. colorsound Well-Known Member May 15, 2009 1,054 0 0 Video Game Developer / Photographer / Graphic Arti Detroit, MI #8 colorsound, Nov 30, 2010 Last edited: Nov 30, 2010 All that extra development time and no retina graphics??? The game plays great but I wish gameresort could have rendered it in retina resolution (it was originally going to release in June) It's not like there are more levels or anything since then. In fact, they have hardly worked on a thing since the video earlier this year. There is one wild west level and one cave level. I really looked forward to this game only to be kind of disappointed. I hope they chime in and let us know whats going on with this game that feels like a lite version Does anyone know if buying the coins for 99c disables the ads? Bruno Well-Known Member Apr 19, 2009 267 0 0 Capital Markets Boston #9 Bruno, Nov 30, 2010 The ads are really annoying. It makes the game slower, especially on the menu. Otherwise I think the game is fun. I would pay for ads free as well. I think this game could be great if: 1. The different ball colors were not only visual. 2. Add some type of Stardunk ball difference. 3. Add some sort of competition system in a HR Battle style. Can you imagine competing against other players online for the most coins? 4. Add some speed feeling to the game, it should be a way to boost it. Well, this is it for now. I hope those guys listen to us and make some changes. Simple games like that can be easily a blast. This game was suppose to come out some time ago, just thought it would offer more. Playing on an iPad th graphics are not very good, really fuzzy. coconutbowling Well-Known Member Dec 8, 2008 3,208 58 38 Student Pennsylvania #11 coconutbowling, Nov 30, 2010 Wow, this game has great potential. Core gameplay is awesome, and I actually like the coin system. Mainly though, I want to disable the ads. The way the game is set up leads me to believe new levels are in the process of being made. I certainly hope that's the case. Framerate isn't silky, but it's better than the first game, and it's still very playable. And graphics aren't bad on my iPotch, though retina would be nice (on the ball if anything) etoiles Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2009 231 0 16 Boulder, CO http://www.gameresort.com #12 etoiles, Dec 1, 2010 Hi guys, first off, thanks for all the feedback, we really appreciate it. Obviously we can't please everybody, but we do listen and try the best we can. Some candid answers to your questions: Coin system/IAP: the idea is that you play through the game, unlocking levels in sequence. Since you can't fail a level, we implemented the coin mechanism - the better you score, the more coins you earn and the quicker you unlock the next level. In the first few levels, it should be possible to unlock a level by playing the previous one just once or twice. The IAP gives you 1000 coins, which, with the coins you earn along the way, let's you unlock all levels by playing them once. But since it doesn't take hours to unlock new levels, this route is totally optional. Hope this makes sense. Ads: this has been a tough one, and we have debated it for a long time (still are, actually ). There are many different ways to sell an app... paid, IAP content packs, ads etc. In our last game, the up-sell to the ad free version was modest, so we didn't think that having ads in permanently would be an issue. But as we stated earlier, if people are really passionate about it, we can add an option to remove them. Retina graphics: supporting the retina display is the equivalent of drawing 4 'regular' iphone screens. It is a lot more challenging for 3D games to deal with this than 2D games. Because of overdraw/performance issues, we would for example have to remove the fog and ball shadow (as we did for the Android build). Again, we made a judgement call, and personally I didn't think the retina resolution was worth the tradeoff for this game (when things are moving, it didn't seem to make that much of a difference), but we are open to revisiting, of course. And we have an update with sharper UI elements coming, so that might help. What took you so long?: we originally estimated to be done in 'summer' (we never said june ), but we had a few side projects that slipped in (gotta pay the bills), and there is only two of us to handle many, many tasks. The demo we showed at GDC only had 3 simple levels without characters, rails, water pits, mines, power-ups and all that extra stuff we put in. Plus level creation takes a long time... let's say 3 days for a basic level, 2 days of initial testing and adjusting. That is a working week (we did work week-ends) just for a basic level. Multiply that by 12... This is probably more information than you need/care, but it is just to remind you that those games you play take a few pints of blood, sweat and tears to make I hope I am not coming across too defensive, just trying to explain some of the choices we made, while studying your feedback and trying to see what we can learn from all this.
