What are the controls like? pka4916 Well-Known Member Jun 6, 2009 2,584 0 36 Male Wisconsin #3 pka4916, Sep 21, 2010 I have no clue, but I like RPG oldschool type... so it's an instantbuy for me. BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #4 BazookaTime, Sep 21, 2010 Please post some impressions. I am mainly concerned about the controls. Seth A Robinson Well-Known Member Jun 27, 2009 66 0 0 Game developer Japan #5 Seth A Robinson, Sep 21, 2010 Two options are available: A standardish virtual D-pad or "drag anywhere to make him walk in that angle" - I think they both work surprisingly well considering the game was originally designed for a keyboard/gamepad on PC. BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #6 BazookaTime, Sep 21, 2010 Sounds good, what about combat? Seth A Robinson Well-Known Member Jun 27, 2009 66 0 0 Game developer Japan #7 Seth A Robinson, Sep 21, 2010 Combat is very simple - you can tap your magic button to fire off a magic spell in the direction your facing, or tap the attack button to swing/fire in the direction you are facing. Hey, tell ya what, I'm going to PM you an unlock key so you can try it and let us know what you think - I'm very interested in any suggestions/critique! BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #8 BazookaTime, Sep 21, 2010 Okay...sounds good. JoeBlonde Well-Known Member Jun 12, 2010 174 0 0 #9 JoeBlonde, Sep 21, 2010 Well, if you have another code to spare... cloudcastles Well-Known Member May 16, 2010 1,342 0 0 #10 cloudcastles, Sep 21, 2010 Lucky you. I'm interested to know how you find it. Even after watching the video, I'm not too sure how well I'll like the gameplay, and I'm curious about how smooth the controls are too (like where the D-pad appears on the iPad). Also, are battles turn-based? pluto6 Well-Known Member Jun 21, 2009 5,837 3 38 Military #11 pluto6, Sep 21, 2010 I'll be interested too. Looks sort of like some of the late Ultima games which I loved ( really dating myself). BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #12 BazookaTime, Sep 21, 2010 Okay I have only played 15 minutes so far but wanted to post some quick impressions. Controls work great, the d-pad is located in a nice spot on the left side and the attack button on the right side. Button placement is excellent on the iPad and the controls are very responsive. The d-pad is very forgiving and works by just sliding your finger the direction you want to go. Graphics are old school, so if you are not into that, you should avoid. I found the menus to be excellent and the dialogue easy to read. There is a lot of talking when you first start but in about 10-15 minutes you will be able to leave the village for a small taste of what is out side. Combat is tapping the button to punch, my fist is my only weapon at this point but since I am able to knock the heads off ducks. (no kidding) I am happy with it. Combat is responsive. Saving is done at save points or when you suspend the game. There are two save spots early in the game, so it looks like this won't be a problem. Going between gameplay areas is my only complaint right now. It is not as smooth as the rest of the game and feels like an older computer game. This is really noticeable when you you move to a new area and then accidentally press to go back to where you came from. Overall, if you are into old school games, the gameplay is great. Too early to say what the game is really like though. Although the dpad seems to be a little too sensitive at times. cloudcastles Well-Known Member May 16, 2010 1,342 0 0 #15 cloudcastles, Sep 21, 2010 Thanks for the code! I just downloaded the game. And since I downloaded it, the icon was in my face, so now I have one comment: I think you should show some representative graphics on the icon rather than just the title. It would make it more attractive (even though the font used is nice). I'll post feedback after I get some time to try it. Seth A Robinson Well-Known Member Jun 27, 2009 66 0 0 Game developer Japan #16 Seth A Robinson, Sep 21, 2010 Thanks for your support. You want a copy of Dungeon Scroll or Mind Wall? If so, slip me a PM. Controls - thanks for the comment. If you haven't, please try the other control method as well. (Can enable it with Pause->Options->Drag to move) during gameplay. Seth A Robinson Well-Known Member Jun 27, 2009 66 0 0 Game developer Japan #17 Seth A Robinson, Sep 21, 2010 Hmm, you're the second person to mention that. I guess it is a little dull. Not sure what to use instead though. DaveS Active Member Apr 17, 2009 35 0 0 #18 DaveS, Sep 21, 2010 Wow, I remember playing this game years ago on some ancient system and a Gravis gamepad. I'm excited to see how the gameplay translates to the Ipad. pluto6 Well-Known Member Jun 21, 2009 5,837 3 38 Military #19 pluto6, Sep 21, 2010 Thanks for the code Seth. BTW - I think Dundeon Scroll is excellent. Bought it way back andstill like playing it. Quite an interesting history on Dink on Wiki. The game is great so far. Control are what I would expect from an old schoolers. I am using the virtual D pad. Occasionally I go/ face/ punch a direction I don't intend, but mostly I do OK. I will try the other scheme soon. I broke a cardinal rule - save often. So I saved, fought the first boss, the went and died, and I have to go back like 20 or 30 minutes worth. Great humor, and story line is engaging. The UI seems pretty intuitive so far, but I have not had much inventory management yet. This is an easy recommend to those that like the old school R P Gs. Reminds somewhat to Monkey Island since it is coming back out again. I'm curious as to what estimated game time would be, and if those user levels under the GNU license are going to be brought to the game? I'll report back as I play more. creature Active Member Nov 27, 2009 32 0 0 Programmer Brisbane Australia http://www.creatureinteractive.com #20 creature, Sep 21, 2010 Heeey! Completely Awesome! I loved Dink Smallwood on the PC back in the day. Glad to see you're pimping it for the new devices. I hope you make a million dollars. Scott. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
