I can't wait to get mine in the mail tomorrow. It'll be a good way to end a tough week.

I think you'll enjoy it, it's so much better than even the 4g. iOS 6 made my 4g crawl.

In a nutshell, would you say the new iPod is like the 4S with a bigger screen and pretty colours?

I've spent very little time with a 4S, but according to everything I've read or seen, it's very comparable.

I don't have any real complaints about the 5G. As someone who plays lot's of games, uses it to browse the interenet, listens to music, uses it as a PDA, it fits my needs well and has not disappointed yet. I'm really enjoying the update and I really think it's a great step up from the 4g.

    *edit*

I wanted to share my general battery usage number after about a day since charging. I barely reached the 20% warning just now with these usage numbers:

    Usage: 6 Hours, 15 minutes
    Standby: 20 Hours, 7 minutes

This is with Brightness @ 75% the whole time. Through that time, I've browsed the internet heavily, watched lot's of YouTube videos, played several games (Nova 3, Batman the Dark Knight, Galaxy on Fire 2 HD and some others that weren't so intensive) and a few other miscellaneous things.

I'm very pleased with these numbers considering I used to have to constantly charge my 4G iPod Touch. I'm sure it's partly because the 4G was over 2 years old and the battery was just older and didn't hold a charge as well.

Okay...got my new iPod today, awesome product red color. I exchanged mine several hours later after noticing, while gently unboxing, a rattling noise when the back top area of the iPod (the area under the camera on the back) was even minimally disturbed (finger taps or gently tapping the area on my thigh). I didn't wait to open the second one until I got home and instead opened it in the parking lot- same noise.

Took it back in, this time enlisting some help from a genius bar employee, and he told me all the new ipods are like that because of the new gyroscope version in the 5th gen. I believe he said it's the same for devices iPhone 4S and later. Is this true? Does everyone's create this noise (try the thigh tap)?

If so...that's extremely disappointing. The gyroscope seems half-baked and in need of serious refinement, and the device now just feels cheap to me, and not like the newest innovation in technology that I expect and trust to get from a $300 Apple product. How are people okay with this???

Curious... how much time do you intend to spend smacking your leg with your iPod Touch? I personally have no interest in smacking my leg with mine when I get it, so this alleged "rattling noise" doesn't concern me much, but hey, if that's what you enjoy doing with your shiny new iOS devices, I won't knock it.

I hope that you don't believe your post is in any way a valid response to my concern, or even a well-placed and accurate joke.

If you noticed, I mentioned that I easily heard the noise while gently unboxing the new device. I treat my possessions with respect and care, so if I heard it within the first 3 minutes of opening it and it is indeed a product-wide occurrence, chances are mostly everyone else will notice it eventually, too.

The finger and leg tap tests were merely easy and harmless ways for me to try and reliably replicate the noise continuously, and suggested ways for others to do the same. 'Cause, you know, the main point of my post is to confirm whether or not this is the result of a defective shipment at my local store or a definite behavior of the gyroscope inside all iPod 5's.

Here, brush up on your reading comprehension, champ.

Anyways, would people who actually own this device be so kind as to help ease my mind by trying to replicate the noise? I'd like to know whether I should try exchanging it again next week, or go ahead and keep mine.

I appreciate the fantastic detailed response! Although with the iPhone 5 benchmarks, I may just wait a bit and get that!

That's odd, mine has no rattle that I've noticed at all. :/

Thanks for the reply. That gives me hope that the store nearby may just have gotten some "bad" iPods. Would love to hear from more owners, it might convince me to try another exchange soon.

Don't worry too much about it, I have the same issue except it's with my iPhone 5. Just enjoy the iPod then in a couple weeks take it back for an exchange.

Ok, sorry. I thought you were just some isolated whiner starting a rumor, but apparently other people have it too, so its a real issue. Hopefully its rare and most wont have it. My Touch just shipped from Amazon, and im hoping it doesnt have any problems.

As awesome as this is I can't help but feel disappointed. I'm totally getting it because it's a HUGE jump in almost every way from my 4th gen, but I still have some issues with it.

First, it really pisses me off that they stuck with the A5 processor. It's still "new", but with the iPhone 5 packing twice that power, it's a bit disheartening.

The other thing they should have maxed out was the camera-again, new iPhone has 8 MP, while this is still at 5 MP. Big jump from <1 MP, but could be bigger.

And possibly the strangest of all, no low-light sensor? This really puzzles me. I like keeping my 4th gen at 50% brightness, and have it change with my lighting. It's nice not to have it shining in my face when it is dark, or impossible to read when it's sunny. So taking that away with the 5th gen is just...weird. It's something really useful that I'm only gonna notice now that it's gone. :(

All in all I can see why Apple made some of these choices, mainly to boost sales of their new iPhone and to keep the new iPod Touch very slim. But still, I'd rather have a bulkier or slightly more expensive iPod than to have to get one that will become outdated in the next couple of years (or have to buy a crazy expensive unlocked iPhone). Ugh.

Relax. A5 is overkill for 90% of games out there.

The exclusion of the A6 had nothing to do with "boosting iphone sales" over ipod touch sales. It was necessary so they would have enough a6 chips to produce enough iPhone 5s to sell. It's the same reason we didn't see the a5 chip in a new iPod last year

When is the estimated delivery date? Hope everything works out for you, maybe then the issue might not be as prominent as I believe right now.

Yeah, no clue about the Ambient Light Sensor.

As far as processor, I would have loved and A6 with 1GB ram, that would have future proofed the 5G for at least an extra year. I'm guessing that it'll be in next year's model if another iteration is made. Of course by then, the iPhone 5s will probably be out with it's faster version of the A6.

I can't say I'm really surprised about the camera, processor, memory specs not being equal to the iPhone 5. It's been like this for years. Call it settling, but I'm happy with the upgrade and the fact that I can play the top end games with little worry now, although IB2 needs and update to add effects, better textures.

Doubt that. Apple just wanted the iPhone to remain top dog in the handhelds. I'm sure if they wanted to there would've been more than enough a6 chips to go around.
