I was thinking about this exact thing the other day when Moopf posted the link...being a review junkie too, I was wondering how hard it would be to add this function to the AppShopper site (poke poke arn)? Even if it just covers US reviews, it would at least be nice to see the average star review alongside the apps without having to launch iTunes or use Moopf's site.

    Yes I'm lazy.

    poor trace, having -4.81 stars
and here i thought you couldn't go below 1 star

interesting research, you should create a php script to do all the grunt work and we should have this calculation as part of toucharcade, which could be updated daily

Hey nanokiwi, could you modify the entry for TanZen? It's one word, not two. Thanks! :)

We do need this automated, but what we really need is a search tool. So I could, for example, search for all the 4+ star rated games, with at least 100 reviews, in the Games:Board genre, with price less then $5. The sort on any field.

but in order to sort, and or search, you would need it automated, to populate the database of that you are searching

but if your leaning towards slave labor im sure some people wouldn't mind being sacrificed

edit: my appologies, i read that as we do not need this automated, but upon second glance...i read it as we do, of which..I concur...about automation, not slavery

I might be able to do this. I am pulling the average rating for AppShopper, but unfortunately, Apple provides a highly rounded average. So, I'll have to pull the individual ratings like Moof.

Leave it up to the developers to be picky. ;)

Seriously, just kidding, the more data the merrier! Thanks arn! AppShopper is super addictive, more features would be a bad thing for me, despite them being a good thing, haha!

I'm at 4.57 with Smiles, but I'm having a hard time being seen. The ones holding me back is 3 star review from a guy who likes it, but seems to have a vendetta against matching game pricing, and another guy who wants more than high scores, statistics, achievements, and 2 games for his $4.99. ;)

Visibility is the biggest challenge with App Store publishing. I'm trying to understand it myself where and how to make enough noise for people to notice.

So far web visibility hasn't actually seemed to matter much.

As with most things in life, advertising and promotion (visibility) are going to play a huge role in the success of an app/game, regardless of gameplay. Us goons who come to touchArcade, AppShopper, etc. are always going to be on the brink of the "newest of the new".

But for the average Joe iPhone, only the games featured on the front page of the App Store and those talked about via word of mouth are going to get anywhere in the long run.

Having said that, I think using iPhone gaming sites like these to push your games, having your own website setup dedicated to your game (pre-updates, fans, support), quality youtube videos, etc. go a long way to increase your visibility, case in point: Rolando. The thing isn't even out yet and it seems to already be an instant hit...5 months ago.

Hey nanokiwi (I always want to say nonwiki, for some reason...),

Thanks for the thread, this is a great list!

Quick edit - can you change "Imagini Word Squares" to "Imangi Word Squares"? Here is the link to the game:

    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=292698925&mt=8

Also, our other game, Imangi, has an average ranking of 4.44 with 58 reviews worldwide. Here is the link:

    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284899739&mt=8

    Thanks again!

:D Just want to make sure there is a visual difference between an app with one 5 star review, and another with one hundred 4 star reviews. I think one of the two may be better than the other.
