That said, the touch controls are very good, and I find controller support less than essential in turn-based RPGs. I’m still getting my sea legs on this one. Obviously this is a quality production and a very ambitious game — think Honkai Star Rail without gacha. But the localization is questionable, and the UI is fancy but sometimes a bit obscure. The combat system is also a little odd, borrowing elements from Chaos Rings and adding some action defense mechanics that take some getting used to. I don’t dislike it, but I’m not getting the immediate love I felt for Honkai Star Rail battles. The exploration component is my favorite thing so far; even in the initial town there are plenty of places to discover. I’m about to try crafting, so we’ll see how that goes. Overall, not disappointed, but still looking for that hook that’s going to keep me playing for what I expect to be a very long duration. houseofg, VirtualBoyFreak and sebgo like this. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 703 113 #9 anthony78, Feb 27, 2024 Yeah, I’m hoping it gets better because so far it isn’t hooking me like I hoped it would. Almost wonder if they knew this was a bit of a dud so decided to recoup the cost as a premium game rather than the riskier F2P option (where if a game doesn’t hook you immediately, there’s too many other options to switch to). Let’s hope I’m wrong and it ends up being a classic. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #10 squarezero, Feb 27, 2024 Some of my favorite RPGs got started slowly (Grandia took me three tries). In a way, I think it’s the opposite — the fact that they went premium allowed them to take their time with the story and gameplay. This game is a massive investment, and I don’t buy that premium wasn’t planned. adamphetamine and jkluk23 like this. Obscuran Maneuver = real time dodging in the name of real time mix turn-based fighting? Just looked at the gameplay footage of this game during combat at YT and it's still like way lot of turn-based element on it. Honestly, I don't like turn based gameplay, I always prefer real time fighting, something like Genshin and Trials of Mana. For anyone who ever played the game is there even an option to turn on real time combat permanently? It took a little while for it to click, but now that it has it’s a lot of fun. If you get good enough at the parry, you can essentially take no damage — the challenge is that different enemies have different attack timing, so you have to read their moves and adapt. I’m curious: do you know of any games that let you choose between turn-based and action combat? Solarclipse Well-Known Member Jul 30, 2012 879 64 28 #13 Solarclipse, Mar 25, 2024 This really is a unique take on JRPG battles, and seems well suited for mobile. I have to agree that the UI is obscure at times. There is however, a pretty robust info system, including a tappable glossary. The tutorials go rather quickly and sometimes move ahead on its own. I missed how to do a few things but went back into the info/tutorials and found it all there. I wouldn’t mind if the skill icons were larger though, it’s kind of hard to tell the difference. And it seems odd that you are stuck on wave/particle for the duration of the turn, as it limits combos but…perhaps that would be too complex. I’m still unlocking a lot of stuff in the game, like the combat bonuses—or forget what they were called. So there are things that you upgrade with materials as well as make meals out of for buffs. There doesn’t seem to be any equipment but rather you use the orbitals to power up stats. I miss this element; finding gear is part of the fun of rpgs. it seems like you gain experience from quest progress, I’m not sure how much if any I am getting from battles. I gain Astris (is that the money?) and item drops from battle. This is part of the UI issues and being a little obscure. but overall this is an interesting RPG and the story is unique and interesting—there is something about it that isn’t as engaging but I just finished playing Nier Automata on the Xbox and…that’s is such a masterpiece on every level, that is hard to follow up…I think the controls for the camera could be improved though, as movement isn’t as fluid as I’d like—but again, I was spoiled by Automata. naghihimutuc and squarezero like this. I am 100% buying it... but I need to clean up a lot of space. So sadly I haven't been able to play it even though I've been anticipating this game since its original announcement. Single player offline RPGs on mobile are a rarity these days so I want to support them. And this is a legit HQ game by a dev I really like. I hope to see more in the future! tekchic and sebgo like this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
