Much more to do than the previous iteration, funner gameplay (IMO), interesting settings, rebuild your Necropolis. Just way more in the game. Huge jump forward. Just my opinion based on testing, but if you liked the first you are going to love the second. adin and jkluk23 like this. Although for me the game gets quite difficult relatively fast (after 5-6 hours or so) because of all sorts of different units unlocks and upgrades available. There’s a lot of strategy involved and right choices are required to progress comfortably. I’d prefer more casual approach with option to choose the difficulty to my liking. I’m not sure if it’s there in final release. I may have missed it in the beta. But if it’s not there it’s a typical case of one difficulty. It never suits everyone. And it’s hard to balance the right one. Anyway, the overall presentation is top-notch, it looks and sounds fantastic and the game runs buttery smooth. As was said previously, if you liked the first one, this is a no-brainer as it was improved on all fronts. adin and Anotherkellydown like this. agreen437 Well-Known Member Jun 12, 2014 1,702 222 63 #7 agreen437, Aug 31, 2023 I was thinking of picking this up what genre of game is this is it like strategy with rpg elements? Never got the first one so I am new to this type of game looks cool though Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #8 Quoad, Sep 1, 2023 Yes, effectively RTS with some RPG. Horde management plays a large part, and I can’t really think of any comparable titles. Being a necromancer, you can replenish your army from the enemies they slaughter. Which is a nifty dynamic. You can choose which unit you’re raising at any one time from a pool of up to five unit types. That may sound like a lot, but this will often be happening in real time battle, as you’re surrounded by hordes of the dead and dying, yours and the enemy’s, in a hail of arrows and burning fire, as you try and destroy their spawn points without running out of fresh corpses. Or being hit, which cancels any summon attempt. Your necromancer has five (?) buffable stats, three (?) of which gain significantly with each level up. He has one of a range of weapon types with a range of standard damage and sometimes additional attributes. He’ll have a staff reliant on mana, which may turn enemies into chickens, or set them on fire, or summon free spiders. And an action button / “rune” (mine is currently 250% damage on next hit) and a passive buff / book. Units can also be buffed. I’m perhaps 10% of the way in, 5 maps cleared out of 48. I have access to five troop types (three of which can be taken with me on any mission). Each unit type has a building, the buildings can be upgraded (L1 to L2, +100% hp and damage, +33% unit cost), you can buy attributes unique-ish to each unit (more range; more damage; poison damage; less points cost per unit; resistant to fire…) and on clearing a map you get a point, which can be allocated to one of these buffs. (They’re only active if a soul / point is allocated to them. But souls can be reallocated for free). I will have forgotten some stuff. It is incredibly rich and incredibly fast paced when a good battle gets going. agreen437, VirtualBoyFreak, houseofg and 2 others like this. Edit2: ok, so in 'dimension 2' aka NG+ you KEEP ALL YOUR GOLD AND EQUIPMENT AND LEVELS, and can continue to collect new soul jars to add to the ones you already have. And can level up houses even further - there's a cap of L3 on houses (each of which supports a unit type - skeletons, corpses, spirits, animals) in dimension 1, dimension 2 UNLOCKS NEW LEVELS. L4, £150k. L5, £500k and you have to be L30. Each level means that unit type has +100% hp and damage; +33% unit cost. Wow. That's dirty-good.
