I'll keep at it and hope there is more to it. Dawncaster feels a little too stale for me, despite the devs doing an absolutely fantastic job of taking care of their game. I love how fast and immediate Gorathar feels. No bloat. I also love the presentation, really enjoy the colors and animations. It just plays really well. Dev implemented that cycling gimmick basically for himself, and he knows that this is a gimmick only. I also think he should get rid of it in the long run, since it confuses people more than being a reason to get this game. Roxton Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Jan 30, 2015 170 90 28 #6 Roxton, Nov 18, 2023 Yeah, Gorathar is solid. There are 20 difficulty levels, each with a different starting deck and supporting variations in cardpool. The pocket mechanic is a very thoughtful addition. The progression of effective use of pockets: “Oh, I can use this to save up armor for when I draw into an offensive hand.” “I can hold my best offensive cards until the enemy drops armor.” “I should pocket cards that provide a transient bonus to attacks, like bleed or temporary strength, then play them when I have full mana.” “Wait, I can use this to reliably assemble any 3-card combo in my deck.” “Oh, neat, I can effectively convert X-cost acid to 1-cost acid without spending 2 mana.” “Oh, wtf, if I clone a pocketed card, it’s zero cost? And I can clone cards that exhaust or even destroy themselves on use?” “Pocketed cards carry over to the next battle? And they keep their upgrades? I can start my first turn by double cloning a 0-cost +5 nuke?!” Roxton Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Jan 30, 2015 170 90 28 #7 Roxton, Nov 18, 2023 The levels being short, the design space of the game allows for things like permanent curses in your deck and extreme rates of health attrition. And yet, play is still quite consistent, especially with the ability to use the fully-featured shop whenever you want. It feels like a setup for an infinite combo, but I haven’t pulled it off yet.
