Played the game up to the first boss and am enjoying myself. Not sure how long I’ll stick with it but it definitely seems quality. Genshin, from what I’ve heard and seen, is a game that becomes quite sh*t in the long run so hope that doesn’t happen here. Alex DeLargest Well-Known Member Dec 16, 2010 346 122 43 Male USA/France #3 Alex DeLargest, Apr 27, 2023 Looks pretty but a few months of Genshin back a couple of years ago quickly broke me of these endless treadmill content dump time sinks. I find very little satisfaction playing something that is constantly obviating your skill and progress with new, OP content with no end in sight. Feels bad man, even before you think about the business model. Wall Jump Games Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2020 169 88 28 Male #4 Wall Jump Games, Apr 27, 2023 I never got into Genshin, so I’m enjoying my Hoyoverse experience while it lasts. These games start out so great, then the sunk cost fallacy make Hoyoverse the dough. There is no world in which I buy stuff in F2P games unless it’s made by small devs I respect, and Hoyoverse is neither, but is should be fun for a month or two. I put about a hundred hours into Genshin Impact before I hit a wall — not a paywall, mind you (more on that in a moment). I thoroughly enjoyed that time with the game; in many ways, this was what I wanted LoZ:BoW to be. Did I spend money one the game? Yep — about $50-70 in total. But here’s the thing: for all intents and purposes GI is a AAA game. I’m not going to defend the gacha model, since it’s clearly exploitative of certain vulnerable people. But there is no question in my mind that I got my money’s worth with GI. The wall I hit was a skill one. I’m simply getting too old for this kind of action RPG. I was finding it too hard to beat some boss-level enemies, even while looking at guides, which meant that I didn’t have the resources to level up my character’s weapons to match the world level. And this is key: I couldn’t even buy the resources with cash. This wasn’t a pay wall. Which brings me to why I’m really appreciating HSR right now. I’m having a much easier (and enjoyable) time with the turn-based combat mechanics. The story is anime nonsense (the best kind ) and the gameplay is more linear than GI, so we’ll see if it will keep my interest. But I don’t expect to hit a skill wall this time, which is great. naghihimutuc, VirtualBoyFreak and Alex DeLargest like this. Whilst obviously Genshin is pretty sh*tty with it’s monetisation, it isn’t unplayable for F2Players, which I respect. I’ve just heard, watched, read etc. a lot about how the game drops off after story content is mainly finished. If you don’t give importance to the gacha/collectible characters and get a good team leveled up, you can advance a lot and greatly enjoy the game. squarezero likes this. naghihimutuc Well-Known Member Mar 11, 2020 111 58 28 #11 naghihimutuc, May 7, 2023 Thisss. I had to uninstall this game because I knew it was going to murder my progress with some of the backlog I’ve been chipping at. I was a ways off into my Atom RPG run (before Trudograd, I’m planning to do a continuous run of the thing!) and THEN since I preordered, the game installed itself. You’re pretty much thrown off the deep end at the start, but the game is presented very well. There’s some frame rate issues with my M1 but I really REALLY had to stop. …of course uninstalling the game did not help progress with the other game because Laya came along. And that’s a whole other story. VirtualBoyFreak Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Apr 26, 2011 4,801 85 48 Spain #12 VirtualBoyFreak, Jun 2, 2023 Just before update 1.1 hits, I wanted to post where I’m in the game and my impressions on how F2P-Friendly this game is. I’ve been playing it daily, learning how to do everything and not checking too many webpages with hints until after 3-4 weeks it launched. I calculate I’ve played 60+ hours or even more. Without spending anything at all, I’ve been able to gather and finish what you can see in the screenshots, as well as finishing all the main story and side missions I could find, being Gepard my last addition (that’s why it isn’t still level 70). I have pulled both the limited banners and the permanent banners a lot of times. Seele limited banner was the one I pulled the most, and got Seele twice, one at around 60-70 pulls and the other at 140-150 pulls. I’ve also pulled the permanent banner around 160 times, plus the initial 50 times you get to pull with discount and a guaranteed 5-star character (got Bailu in that one). That’s 360 free pulls, which is quite generous IMO for a game like this. My main team is Trailblazer (conservation), Bailu, Seele and Natasha. I know a 2-healer team is weird, but it works quite well if you don’t have Gepard or similar, and I ended up needing 2 high level healers in those missions where you need 2 teams (the ones you do in the train which have 15 levels and 3* each, I can’t remember the name now, they’re in the screenshots). After all these weeks playing, I feel the game is quite generous for F2P players. The only downside is that after you finish everything you can do in the game, crystals income slows down a lot, and you only get around 60 per day if you do the daily tasks. At 1600 for every 10-pulls, that means that I will only be able to pull the banners around 10 times/month, which forces me to think twice what premium limited characters I want to try and get. I’m aware that luck plays a big role in my perception, and I feel luckier-than-average with the characters I got in my pulls, but I feel that if you can look past the “gotta catch ‘em all” pokemon-ish feeling, there’s a fantastic game to be enjoyed here… if you like this kind of games, obviously Attached Files: IMG_0150.jpeg File size: 455.8 KB Views: 1 IMG_0151.jpeg File size: 424.7 KB Views: 1 IMG_0152.jpeg File size: 1.2 MB Views: 1 IMG_0153.jpeg File size: 1.1 MB Views: 1 IMG_0154.jpeg File size: 2.1 MB Views: 1 IMG_0155.jpeg File size: 1.7 MB Views: 1 IMG_0156.jpeg File size: 2.4 MB Views: 1 squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #13 squarezero, Feb 13, 2024 2.0 released a few days ago. And for those concern about the gacha/IAP aspect, I was able to get the new 5 star character without spending any cash. Overall, I’ve probably spent $30.00, none of it necessary, but certainly helpful. Considering the size and scope of this game, that’s very much a bargain.
