Generally speaking, anything by Chocoarts is probably excellent (see Djinn Caster), while most ExeCreate games are generic. Hit Point has a decent but mixed track record. I’m only one hour into Raging Bytes, but so far this seems to be one of the good ones — a nicely polished DragonQuest-style JRPG that plays like a lost George Romero film. The set up is straight out of The Walking Dead, but with an appealing mix of pathos and humor. The characters are well-rounded and easy to like, and the story has forward momentum. Not sure if it’s worth the price yet, but I can see myself playing this for awhile. Quoad, Collin, Anotherkellydown and 1 other person like this. EXECREATE makes mostly shitty games, Hit-point is on the good side of things. Their games are mostly good. agreen437 Well-Known Member Jun 12, 2014 1,702 222 63 #6 agreen437, Apr 13, 2023 Looking great but why the high price id buy for 5.99 is it worth it or not you said its like dragon quest? psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,971 722 113 England #7 psj3809, Apr 13, 2023 You said you’ll buy it for 5.99 two dollars more isn’t too expensive is it ? I’m tempted but I’m not a fan of turn based combat. Movement is real-time, BTW, and avoiding combat is often the best strategy. I thought I was pretty done with kemco (unless we get a new djinn caster maybe?) but this has me rethinking. Would love to hear some more gameplay impressions here though. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #10 squarezero, Apr 15, 2023 The best Kemco game since Djinn Caster. Good story, interesting characters, nice pixel art, tons of atmosphere and polish. Lots of nods to classic zombie movies. It’s not perfect (combat can get a little repetitive once you have a rhythm going, for example), but there’s a lot to chew on here (pun intended). It’s not terribly long, I don’t think — I may be in the last stage after four or five hours, but who knows. Frankly, I prefer a shorter RPG that stays entertaining throughout. There’s no playtime clock, so it’s hard to tell how long it is, but my guess 6-8 hours. I did skip at least a couple of side missions and one optional location. Without giving any spoilers, I will say that the game has a thoroughly satisfying Romero style ending — fans should know what I mean. In fact, there are two possible endings, and the game cleverly allows you to see both in one play through. Highly recommended for fans of classic zombie films and story-driven RPGs. sebgo and Anotherkellydown like this. I would quibble only with the assessment of difficulty — once you get the tactics, combat is not really that hard. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
