It's equal parts beautiful and just desperately sad. Humans... terrible bunch, really. But it's also gorgeous to look at and I rather like the mechanics so far - snuffling about for food, finding the different paths, piecing together the map (not what I expected, actually, as I thought of it being way more linear). Just quite joyous right now. I have a feeling the old heartstrings are going to be tugged on more and more! There's a darkness and despair when witnessing the things happening around you, but I'm hoping it's going to be tempered from time to time with some more uplifting events. The controls have been no problem for me so far, but I suspect that a controller would be the way to go (supported, by the looks of it) if that's your thing. I'd love to play it with my daughter but she's just slightly too young for me to subject her to the utter awfulness of humankind and the havoc we wreak on the environment. But maybe that's the point - she is aware of some things, but maybe she should be more aware. I don't know. Parental decisions! So, in summary, so far so brilliant - and for something of this quality I feel that the asking price is absolutely worth it. Oh, and the sound design is impeccable as well - the title screen has some wonderful atmospheres. There is always a struggle to find enough food and shelter. Human effects on the environment don’t change that. They do negatively affect a lot of species, but it would still be similarly hard and unforgiving otherwise.
