Analyze and use everything that comes your way: build bridges, place springs, prune vines... Be clever, be quick, be efficient. Travel through outer space to beaches full of flying fish, to ancient temples lost in the jungle, as you help Pompom outsmart his enemies and rescue his boy Hoshi from Captain Cat and his crew. One day Pompom was working up a sweat on his hamster wheel, when Hoshi the boy burst into the room, showing a hand of beautiful jewels that fell from the sky with a great ‘BOOM’. When suddenly, Captain Cat and his gang appeared and kidnapped the little boy through a portal to space. Now Pompom must go on an adventure to save his boy Hoshi from the eight Space Cat Pirates! Pompom: The Great Rescue is "free-to-try", an in-app purchase is required to unlock the full game. - Play a platformer in a new way, moving not the character but the platforms. - Explore a beautiful tribute to the SNES classics and the 16 bits retro era. - Adventure across 8 worlds in an epic space rescue: jump on flying fish, dodge nasty arrows, dispel vengeful spirits, swim past piranhas, battle flying saucers, and more. - Pompom defeats enemies and collects items, and you can use those items and interact with the world to get him to victory. - Use every item at your disposal: fly out of cannons, swing on ropes, slash vines, splash honey, freeze time and much more. For all intents and purposes, this should be considered an App Store great and an instant classic. It borrow’s heavily from the aesthetics of Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island, you’d think everyone would be on it like shrimp fried rice. Yet, it is a game I want to love, but cannot stand, due to how punishing it is right off the bat. Even though you’re given the ability to pause in order to strategically place objects, it’s on a timer, and with the object selector being right smack dab in the middle of the upper third of your screen, even something as simple as swiping to select a different object becomes an arduous task. If the PC version has, say, mouse scrolling for selection, I can see how much more efficient playing the game could be, but yeah, this is just beyond frustrating to me, and it’s a damn shame. macplash and Stronsay like this. I think the instant gratification provided by so many casual mobile games is taking away our desire to do hard things where the rewards lie. Chase the discomfort, then completing levels gives a great sense of achievement; though I do have iPad on a stand which may simplify object selection. Something I’d like to see in more games of this type is the graphics option to smooth out pixels, ‘cause I’m tired of looking at pixels. Anyway, I guess one has to be in the right frame of mind but it’s worth putting in some practice. You’ll soon be an expert in object placement with time to spare. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #4 macplash, Feb 4, 2023 I, on the other hand, will NEVER get annoyed by looking at pixels or pixel art in general. NEVER! And I love when @metalcasket comes and revives a thread, or fires up a discussion especially for a game that flies under the radar a is visually as stunning as this one. The timers and precision required for block placement sounds like a deal breaker to me, but I’ll give it a try anyway. I love Super Mario. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. You can’t move things you’ve placed and my ass burns almost immediately after I start playing. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #6 anthony78, Feb 9, 2023 I don’t think it’s that bad. It’s definitely challenging. It basically requires memorizing a level to get through them. I can see why some wouldn’t like it though. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #7 ste86uk, Feb 9, 2023 I started this last night and found it pretty hard with the precision and timing especially since I’m a perfectionist and want to 100% everything. But it seems like a good game for sure so I’m going to give it a bit more time see if I get better at it. @Brightsiderus when he comes back in the bubble you can hold your finger down on the screen for where you want him to go and he will float over there. Can’t be too far though as the bubble will pop after so long. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
