But with a PC port like this one, which uses smart systems to generate levels procedurally, screen proportions are not something that can be changed on the fly — essentially, they would have to rewrite the code for the iOS version, even while they charge half of what they get on Steam. I’d rather get a decent port of a good PC game (which this is), rather than miss out because a dev can’t afford to make me 100% happy. adamphetamine, Charles Elwood Gay III, W8rd3 and 5 others like this. sakara214ever Well-Known Member May 10, 2012 1,262 168 63 #10 sakara214ever, Jan 20, 2023 Thanks for letting us know. This silly black bar discussion is overshadowing how immaculate this game is. The controls do initially feel a little overwhelming, but they work, so, so, so, well. The inclusion of auto attack (optional) is such a smart choice, and the whole package feels like it was put together by Playdigious. Please folks, don’t ignore this. I r now for an iPhone 12 max so a large screen and the games great on it. Yeah black bars to the side but I’m personally not bothered it’s a great little game squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #13 squarezero, Jan 20, 2023 100% agree. For me, this is rogue-like done right, with a real sense of progression, fun combat, and engaging systems that keep you motivated to move forward. It’s a “little game” in some ways, but truly expansive in others. A real standout and a very welcome addition to iOS. adamphetamine and metalcasket like this. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #14 metalcasket, Jan 20, 2023 Worth mentioning that part of the virtual buttons do live on the black bars, so it’s not like this was made with iPhone 5 in mind. adamphetamine and Talbs like this. Just a bit of UI button customisation: Attack button inner, jump button outer and off into the edge of the black bar (yes the black bar is usable space for the UI), with a little bit of button enlarging. Just by doing that, the game has come on as its own joy to play. For me it’s certainly got a Rogue Legacy feel about it, certainly very very similar gameplay, but I think I actually prefer this one, as it doesn’t seem just quite as brutally difficult and the in dungeon upgrades and weapon finding are fun. Btw, I’m surprised Rogue Legacy hasn’t yet been mentioned in here as that game is super close to this one and is a highly regarded roguelite, on any platform. Actually, Rogue Legacy has the same black bars on the side and very similar UI control setup. So if you enjoyed that game, I think you’ll love this. @metalcasket was right, the gameplay and its quite decent controls far outweighs some black borders on the sides. (And it is just on the sides). If that’s what they needed to do in order to bring this little beudy to mobile then good on them. @macplash I’m wondering if this is a game you might enjoy and classic binge complete in no time at all? anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 703 113 #16 anthony78, Jan 21, 2023 Yeah, it’s probably most similar to Rogue Legacy and SteamWorld Dig (without the mining component). I’m enjoying it. It’s hard and controls work but aren’t perfect. Still a quality game that I’m glad was ported to iOS. gmattergames Well-Known Member Mar 1, 2013 607 42 28 #17 gmattergames, Jan 23, 2023 Not in to platformers much, but enjoying this. Agreed, controls aren’t perfect, jump mechanics take some getting used to. Also, having to save game at campfire is a bit of a pain. Otherwise, scratches the rogue-like itch nicely.
