Yes, it’s a match-3 game but very forgiving, thanks to being on a sub instead of being f2p. I think the main hook is the story and characters. Not the actual match-3 gameplay. At least that’s what has me enjoying it quite a lot. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #5 squarezero, Sep 15, 2022 Agreed. The gameplay and mechanics are very similar to those of Zookeeper World on AA, but this has more of a story and it’s very own charm. Nice addition to the Netflix roster. Rocksaint likes this. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #6 Rocksaint, Sep 15, 2022 Netflix really needs to find better ways to market and promote their games. I only found out about this release through a YT video, that too because I am subscribed to their channel. Maybe, it’s high time to add a separate games tab to their mobile app. Or at least have something promotional as to what’s upcoming in the current month, to build up the hype. Something similar to what AA does. There are too many gems (like This is a True Story, Relic Hunters: Rebels etc.) on their library, which sadly I feel most people don’t know about. It’s a shame, really. squarezero likes this. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #7 ste86uk, Sep 21, 2022 I’ve been giving this a bit of playtime too, between this Garden Tails, Simons Cat Story Time I’ve got loads of these to play at the minute. As I’m sure I mentioned I don’t love match 3 but when it’s paired with a story, building or whatever then that gives me the motivation. I also feel better playing premium experiences as I don’t feel like levels are built to force me to spend money which happened to me on Farmscapes after 6-700 levels and I quit and never went back. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #8 Rocksaint, Sep 21, 2022 Tbh in my experience, all match-3 games end up the same way. F2P or premium. I already got bored this and Garden Tales. Levels started getting too hard. Forced to repeat each level 2-3 times to progress. Not sure when to use power-ups and boosters. And finally the overall story progress becomes very slow with less exciting outcomes. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #9 ste86uk, Sep 21, 2022 I’m sorry to hear that, I guess I won’t know until I play more how I feel about them. But I expect to have to repeat levels and not breeze through everything and there are no lives so as long as it doesn’t take me a stupid amount of tries that bit won’t bother me. I loved Farmscapes when that was softlaunched and liked the story and decorating/building a farm by playing match 3 but that was getting to the point where I’d be stuck on the same level for days/weeks in the end on the level that made me quit. Just got fed up replaying it. Did you enjoy the Simons cat one? I’m pretty late to the party with that game. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #10 Rocksaint, Sep 21, 2022 I guess the difference between you and me is that you give it a fair shot before giving up. As for me, once I start seeing a trend, I can make a calculated guess that this is eventually going to waste my time, so I give up early. Yeah, I played Simons Cat way back. It’s pretty good and polished. Enjoyed the story for a while. But kinda got bored of it. And the levels, like every match 3, got too hard for me, so repetitiveness crept in. And I always struggle at using the right power-ups at right times in these games. I’m never quite sure. So I gave up. ste86uk likes this. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #11 squarezero, Sep 21, 2022 No question — some games just don’t click with me, either. A good story can go a long way to keep me engaged with mechanic I don’t love, but I’ve bounced hard on some beloved games. Different strokes, different folks. I was really enjoying this, but got hit with a bug that reset my progress and seems to have broken the game. It seems like I’m not alone, based on comments online. Unfortunately deleting and redownloading doesn’t seem to reset the save file, so the game is currently unplayable. Hopefully they release a fix soon — a recent update didn’t improve things. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #12 Rocksaint, Sep 21, 2022 That sucks. Nothing worse than losing progression in a game. It’s 2022. We would think we would be able to have multiple backups for save game files for all games. So we can access recent saves if/when something goes wrong. Worst that could happen then is a loss of a day’s progression at most. But it’s sad that most current games and OSes hardly allow any manual access or manipulation of save game files. Mobile or otherwise. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #13 squarezero, Sep 21, 2022 Agreed. As an update, it turned out that it was a corrupted save — I signed up on my wife’s Netflix identity and I was able to restart the game without a problem. It’s too bad that you can’t just restart the game, at least at this point, so it seems like playing through my account is permanently borked . Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #14 Rocksaint, Sep 21, 2022 All the more reason why players should be allowed to access multiple save game files. From local device as well as from cloud. That way if one file goes corrupt, you can get a copy of it from the other source. Or downright pick another save file. Miss those olden days of manual saves and selecting save files before starting a game. True, it’s more convenient the modern way. But always runs the risk of losing progression or file corruption.
