I just can’t stop playing. The powerups are so fun to mess around with. You start out with only one powerup slot but unlock more as you play. Part of the fun is choosing which of the handful of powerups you want to take with you on each run. Lots of experimenting going on here! And you unlock new powerups by earning coffee beans that are hidden in pots scattered throughout the levels and won through the cleverly unlockable puzzle levels. This is a game of the year contender for me. Just perfect. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #6 macplash, Jun 11, 2022 I wish it had Game Center implemented to compete in the leaderboards and compare scores with friends. It’s also quite challenging. Timers are not my cup of tea and those beasts chasing me are very hungry. I’m hoping it gets easier with more power-ups. On the other hand, Downwell isn’t a walk in the park either, so yeah. I also wish Game Center scores were added. I assume it would be kinda tricky with games like this where you’re constantly gaining abilities and levels and getting more and more powerful. But it definitely would be nice if leaderboards were added anyway. Right now I can't decide if I prefer this or Downwell, 100% GOTY contender for the year so far! (This goes alongside Apex Mobile as my other contender for Mobile GOTY) The movement, the gameplay, the equipment, the music, and, oh, the puzzles! THE PUZZLES! Moppin is officially the king of vertical scrollers (unless I ever make a vertical scroller, of course), hell, Moppin is officially the king of mobile rogue-lites, HELL, Moppin is the king of mobile games! Enough insane excitement rant, this game is truly amazing tho. The only thing I've ever played on Netflix Games (I would've played Hextech Mayhem, but that doesn't run on iPhone X, and I've played the premium release of Moonlighter Mobile), and my god this justfies the entire service. I got this masterpiece, for FREE! That feels like a crime. It is such a polished and fun release. The movement is not a necessarily fully unique system, but this probably my favourite ever implementation of the system. And on top of it is an amazing mechanic that I'm surprised I've never seen before (outside of cooking game). I guess it's a bit like Leap Day, but the different fruits actually mean anything (they do have a very small purpose in the original, but none in Super, but it feels a lot more purposeful). On top of the awesome core mechanics, the zones are also really cool. I'm currently in Zone 3, and both Zones 2 and 3 have had really interesting unique mechanics and enemies, like the walls in Zone 2 and the bubbles in Zone 3. I'm really excited to reach Gourmet Level 10 and see Zone 4. But no, that's still not it! On top of all the above, there is equipment that you unlock periodically by collecting a certain amount of coffee beans. You can then equip these for modifiers to run, eg. Become invincible on your final jump, if you make the juice after dying, you will resurrect once. You start with one equipment slot, but that number slowly increases as you rank up. It's fun to get new abilities and try new combos, and they are very useful. Everything I've said above refers to the main roguelite mode and unlockable endless mode, but there is one more: puzzle mode. Spoiler: HOW TO UNLOCK PUZZLE MODE To the right of where you start, there is a empty room with a hole in the ceiling, obstructed by leaves. If you jump through it, you will find a large tunnel it is impossible to reach the top of, at least to start. Eventually if you use the rocket power ability along with 3 jumps, or 4 jumps w/o rocket power, combined with good use of wall bounces, you will reach a button which will drop a throne which unlocks puzzle mode. And the puzzles in this game are fantastic. They require to use a limited number of jumps along with the environment to make a certain juice, and while they aren't the hardest they are super satisfying to pull off and will you get your brain working a little bit. They are the biggest available source of coffee beans, so completing them is a very good idea, and it is quick, fun distraction from the main loop. I honestly wouldn't mind having a couple hundred of these and having them be the full game, that is how well they work. And of course, all of it is accompanied by a killer soundtrack. It is so upbeat and charming and suitably energetic for the pace of the game. This soundtrack is at the very least on par with Downwell's, if not even better. 100% recommend this to anyone with a Netflix subscription already, but unfortunately if you don't have Netflix already I don't think Netflix Games has enough S-Tier games like this, or enough games in general to justify it's £10 (and growing) asking price. Overall Score: 4.5/5 (would be a 5 if it wasn't on Netflix, but it means I can't recommend it to literally everyone). Anotherkellydown likes this. While there definitely is some reducing of difficulty, it’s still very challenging and engaging as you go on. I would personally say Downwell is more difficult, as I can never consistently get past Catacombs in Downwell, whilst I’m quite consistently hitting between Gourmet Level 6-8 in this after just a day and a couple of hours. As with any game, play, have fun and learn, and skill will come. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #13 macplash, Jun 12, 2022 I guess you're right. I unlocked a few more power-ups (even though I still have only two slots available), but the puzzle mode is what I love about this game the most. Before puzzle mode I couldn't even imagine what's possible. After solving a few of them it's much easier to implement those techniques into a regular run. There's a learning curve I didn't see/expect in the beginning and it's so rewarding.
