I love 10tons. Played every single Sparkle game til the end, loved Neon Chrome and Undead Horde, finished Jydge to near perfection (oh the hours ...). For some reason couldn't get warm with Time Recoil, and absolutely didn't get Tesla vs Lovecraft. Tried it several times, but it is what it is. (Oh man, this sentence will never be the same lol). The graphics, after all the aforementioned games, are a big what the frog to me, the gamplay is boring as hell. As I said, I don't get it. As for this game, I already played it in the beta phase, and unfortunately didn't like it either. It's way better than TvL, the roughlike elements are quite good, but then ... The graphics, again. Game looks uninspired and could be 10 years old. Or a port from an even older pc game. But the main problem is definitely the gameplay. Since it is a roughlike, you are basically permanently grinding, but the core gameplay is so dull and repetitive, you literally got bored to death within the first hour. You probably know this feeling: you know the repetitiveness will bore you at some point, but for now and hopefully a while you are having a blast. Well, not in this game. It's there, right from the start. And once you've unlocked the roughlike elements, it feels like working from home ... But then again, lots of folks in here loved TvL, so this one will probably find it's fans too. Just wanted to share my opinion, and if you've played some of the 10tons games, maybe this can help you if you are unsure. Doesn’t feel like I have as much agency as I have as in the other games. Lack of variety in the environments maybe? All the other games I feel, have personalities, this one kinda looks like it’s still feeling around. Like, I guess it’s kind of like a more melee focused undead horde where you start off as a grunt, but that thing had a cool power trip feel to it. I get it that this more of a roguelike, but the melee attack just doesn’t have the same satisfying animation and feel as the other games. The destructible stuff isn’t as extensive as jydge or neon chrome so it doesn’t feel as cool. I like the branching paths here but it doesn’t feel as consequential as Teslaforce. Also, I like how Neon Chrome throws me into a level where I have very decent chances of getting a good heal as much as I have a chance of getting a missile down my throat—this one feels like you have a choice, but not really since you get the same environs, same-y weapons (hammer, scimitar, sword, so far) and spike traps and explody barrels. The only thing I really like messing around with is the skull throw. The skull throw is cool. 2 hours so far in the game, there’s probably more to discover, I hope. #Bonk3rZ likes this. I’ve played all the 10tons shooters/arpg’s and liked/loved them all, in varying degrees. In my opinion this game is fantastic and exactly what I was hoping it would be. Dang, this is great! And at one dollar you really can’t go wrong. Plays great with my Backbone (accidental pun) too.
Definitely a huge bargain at this price, I haven’t played it since the beta as during the beta I played it a lot and then didn’t end up buying it since I’d already played it. But purchased it and started again now and already got my monies worth with a few hours of fun from the game and got plenty more to go.
