I looked at board game geeks for info on the physical version: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/330174/explorers …and I’m still not quite clear on how it’s actually played! Ok, I bit. It is indeed interesting. The closest thing I can think to compare it to is Railroad Ink; you’re competing against yourself to finish with the highest score (although there are leaderboards). It’s all about plotting a route across a map with various desirable tiles to take in to increase your score. Your direction is somewhat dictated by random cards that you turn, specifying which terrain type you may traverse this time. Once all the cards (7) are exhausted then you move onto the next round, out of a total of 4. Once all rounds are completed your score is tallied and you are shown a screen with score ranges so you can judge how you did. My initial 43 was found wanting! It’s a bit rough around the edges, some windows (the score ranges at the end for example) don’t fit on the screen. It doesn’t have much of a polished feel to it. That said, I’ve got a lot of time for portrait games that can be played at your own pace. Like RailRoadInk I’d like to see an actual vs. mode rather than just leaderboards. Do I recommend it? I’m not sure. I like the idea but I’m not sure if it’s got legs. It needs further playing but I’m currently on the fence with this one. Edit: Ok, I’m off the fence. It’s just not really very much fun I’m afraid. Personally I get much more out of RailRoadInk. It’s not for me. AltsKev likes this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
