Found a comparison.. Dev post on Steam.. Tesla Force is an evolutionary step away from Tesla vs Lovecraft, a game which we made 3 years ago. We've listened to the fans, and remodeled the game to bring you something new. While we do use some assets from the previous game, Tesla Force is a game entirely of its own. By changing some key aspects of the game, we have achieved something different, and new. By building upon an existing game, we can reach further. Roguelite Tesla vs Lovecraft is an arena shooter. All of the gameplay is limited to that singular arena. Choices made in the arena bear no consequences outside the arena. You either die or live long enough to see yourself become a victor. The metagame outside the arena is simple. You progress on the map and use crystals to unlock helpful boons. In Tesla Force, the gameplay transcends the limits of the arena. You will have meaningful choices both inside and outside the arena, beyond simply acquiring upgrades. You can choose your path to travel, along with the challenges and rewards that come with it. You can risk it by challenging the Elite Monsters for Rare Perks, or you can play it safe and settle for lesser rewards. While levels in Tesla vs Lovecraft were handcrafted, Tesla Force sports an endless amount of procedurally generated levels. In Tesla Force players can also equip weapons and perks at the start of each game, so they'll have a limited chance to build their characters, instead of always starting from zero with nothing but a pistol. More, Much More Compared to Tesla vs Lovecraft, we have added so many more features to this game. We have 4 different playable characters, each with unique aspects. While Nikola Tesla is the master of Special Abilities, Marie Curie can dual-wield small weapons to great effect. Lovecraft can use spawning points to spawn an aberration mount and warp the reality in his favor, and Mary Shelley has an autonomous bodyguard named Mechenstein. We have also added a hefty amount of new weapons, powerups, perks, and monsters. There are also various interactive objects in the arena, such as mountable Tesla Turret, Healing Device, Sacrificial Statue, and Wishing Well. While there was only one objective in Tesla vs Lovecraft, to survive, in Tesla Force there are 5 different mission types, each with different objectives. Fixing Inhibitors will require nimble feet while closing Aether Rift will require you to stand your ground. Destroying Cthulhu Statues requires firepower, whereas Surveying the Hive asks for endurance. Quality of Life improvements We have upgraded the engine, and with it, we have real-time shadows and advanced lighting techniques that makes the action look much better. Players can now also switch weapons, allowing them to use weapons best suited for their current situation. To summarize: Randomly Generated Levels 4 unique playable characters 5 different mission types Multi-choice worldmap Unique Boss Fights More permanent upgrades More Weapons, Monsters, Perks, Powerups Carrying two weapons at a time Play session length 3min -> 30min Interactive Objects in the Arena Mystery Events with Risks and Rewards Real-time Shadows and advanced lighting pathogen541, Wicked8146, Ijipop and 1 other person like this. I’ve been spending a lot time on The Ascent recently and this is playing like a smaller scale, simplified version for mobile. I definitely see the evolution from from Tesla vs Lovecraft: this is definitely more like my type of game. Glad for the multiple characters, though I’m not planning to play as that Lovecraft creep . Does it have it on iOS? subgenius Well-Known Member May 30, 2014 149 34 28 #11 subgenius, Aug 20, 2021 Having fun with my initial games, but is it intentional that the difficulty is so brutal at the start? If you have to go to a mission that requires destroying the cthulu statues, it's not unusual for a character to be completely unable to even really damage a statue enough before it gets swarmed with hordes of enemies that cover the line of fire, and then it starts to regenerate. I managed to get through one of them eventually with a good run, but then the final boss of the map just destroyed me completely. Is the idea that you are pretty much going to die again and again before you're upgraded enough to make it through the first map? ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #12 ste86uk, Aug 20, 2021 @subgenius sounds like you’ve played more than me but that sounds like it could be the way and from what I’ve played it possibly seems the kind of game now where you’ll die and just get stronger gradually. I was hesitant to get this considering I had the first but after the comparison on both I figured I’d give it a go, is it just me but does the aim feel off? I feel like it’s not going where I want it to and I love twin stick shooters and don’t remember feeling like this with any others I’ve played. Other than that I definitely want to play some more but I do wish they had changed up the theme a little…I find dark monsters on dark backdrops doesn’t really look good or work well for me. elcrazy likes this. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 707 562 93 #13 elcrazy, Aug 20, 2021 If you are saying a level by the whole first map (Arkham) and boss then yes 100% you will probably need to play a bunch and level up your characters before beating it. It’s what makes these games awesome. Every play through you feel a bit stronger and have some epic runs. ste86uk likes this. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 707 562 93 #14 elcrazy, Aug 21, 2021 So I feel like you may be right about the twin stick. It feels just slightly off at times. It’s not working properly. Something is off with the turning or resetting of the joystick. Also for me it keeps using the teleport even though I am not even close to the button. It just goes automatically. I also have the first on switch and I like it but didn’t love it. Was boring a bit. The only real hook was the graphics and the big machine. This time around I like it so much better right off the bat. I love a simple rogue lite like this in my pocket. Has the one more run feel. Nice upgrade between each run. So far I’m having a blast. Haven’t dug that much into it and certainly have not even made it to the first boss yet. Great game looking forward to playing more. ste86uk likes this. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 707 562 93 #15 elcrazy, Aug 21, 2021 I don’t see a multiplayer option. Sorry. At the moment it’s just making me want to go play Juicy Realm which is the last twin stick I remember really liking on iOS. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 707 562 93 #17 elcrazy, Aug 21, 2021 Hmm I have Juicy realms and never played it. Played tutorial and didn’t love something. Put it in a folder and forgot all about it. Worth giving another try ? I remember thinking it looked so good but something didn’t click for me. Felt slow or too hard or something. I don’t remember. ste86uk likes this. subgenius Well-Known Member May 30, 2014 149 34 28 #18 subgenius, Aug 21, 2021 Yes, something definitely feels “off” about the aiming, and I keep accidentally triggering the teleport when using the touch controls. I think it can also activate if you quick tap near the move stick or something, but it’s not consistent. I switched to a physical controller and am having a much better experience. Still haven’t beaten the first boss yet, but got close last run (about 20% of his life left). Progress is starting to slow down with upgrades, so I’m a little afraid of how grindy this will be. Great gameplay, but needs a little love on the balancing and the touch controls. ste86uk likes this. subgenius Well-Known Member May 30, 2014 149 34 28 #19 subgenius, Aug 21, 2021 Haha of course the very next run I go for is the winner, and I took down the first boss to clear the map. Playing with a physical controller is definitely the way to go, and the trick to success seems to be stacking damage perks as much as you can and then doing everything possible to get multi-kill bonus drops so you can get the fire/frost/multi bonuses, then killing even more to keep the bonuses coming. Once they stop dropping, it’s hard to get momentum going again. Now off to the farm... ste86uk likes this. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #20 ste86uk, Aug 21, 2021 Last edited: Aug 21, 2021 @elcrazy if you already own it then I’d definitely take another look, I remember I wasn’t sure at first but did enjoy the game and spent a fair few hours playing it. @subgenius congrats!
