Set in an original savage fantasy world, this retro-style RPG in the style of classic "blobbers" like Wizardry, Might and Magic, and The Bard's Tale. In it you will build a party of 5 daring adventurers who must travel to the remote valley of Farvale in search of the eponymous Tears, magical gem-like stones said to embody the virtue of Saint Solizra, The Spurned Prophet. During their quest your heroes will plumb the perilous depths of forsaken ruins, fight monsters, unearth powerful artifacts, win over the locals and bring light and hope of a world being Unmade by the decadence and cruelty of mortals. Essentially a text RPG with blob graphics. Underneath the naff appearance there’s a decent role playing structure going on; but remember these things play slowly. Set up 5 characters from an array of types and classes with associated skills. Don’t forget to equip them before starting out. No auto equip. Be sure to read the combat tutorial carefully as it’s a bit different. Keep an eye on the aggro gauges in combat. One bug is apparent on the map screen - there’s no X in the top right corner to close the map, but tapping in that area will close it. Perhaps the best selling point is this game has bull clackers. ToaP is from the days when “fun” meant making us suffer. My teams have died a thousand deaths. Things are looking up though. The current party has 3 humans and 2 giants with a mix of Knight and Reaver classes. They’re making unprecedented progress and might even complete the first mission. stubbieoz Well-Known Member Jun 23, 2015 1,878 355 83 Male Grey haired gamer NSW Australia #5 stubbieoz, May 27, 2021 Hummm...... looks interesting but, From the screenshots in the AppStore it looks like it needs to be played on a phone. It gives the impression it will give you massive black bars top and bottom of a 4:3 iPad screen. Asp Well-Known Member Aug 3, 2017 769 196 43 #6 Asp, May 28, 2021 You may be right, but not for that reason. There are no black bars but the probem with closing the map, mentioned in my first post, may be due to scaling on iPad causing the X icon to be hidden behind another menu. Perhaps that doesn’t happen on a phone screen. It’s awkward but I’ve got used to it. As it stands, however, I’d only recommend purchasing ToaP if you’re a fan of awkward. I’ll advise if it gets fixed. stubbieoz likes this. Asp Well-Known Member Aug 3, 2017 769 196 43 #7 Asp, Jun 1, 2021 The above mentioned map issue has now been fixed. To show how ToaP renders on iPad here’s a screenshot of the dramatic combat graphics; running at a battery friendly 0 FPS. stubbieoz Well-Known Member Jun 23, 2015 1,878 355 83 Male Grey haired gamer NSW Australia #8 stubbieoz, Jun 1, 2021 Last edited: Jun 2, 2021 Looks like it DEFINITELY needs to be played on a phone rather than an iPad now. A shame as it looks pretty good from the video I watched. I just don’t play games on my phone.... my fingers are too big. EDIT; Bought it anyway. I must say I am impressed with the game so far. Only really early stages of coarse, but this looks like a real labour of love. There is a heap of old school goodness in this game with a lot of decisions early on just making your party. There are 5 races to choose from, which makes sense as you have 5 characters in your team anyway. But all races have their different abilities, and there are 10 classes to choose from. This game appears to be a real homage to those old first person dungeon crawlers of the early might and magic era. The graphics are unfortunately stretched out of shape on the 4:3 aspect ratio of an iPad. I really hope the dev can fix that. I don’t know if I can continue playing it on my iPad Pro as it just looks too wierd. But I did try it on my iPhone 8 plus and it looks great on that device. For the price and if you like dungeon crawlers and play mostly on your phone you really should consider this one. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
