They changed so many times their monetization model I got lost. anyone knows what this new version is all about?!? Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,616 377 83 #7 Talbs, Mar 23, 2021 What’s this new version all about? No idea. I’ve now got this AND dimensions of Dream on my device and they look exactly the same, except dimensions of Dream was last left in a funny state of having some Chinese pop-up information boxes. Weird. This looks to be exacto same-o. But maybe monetisation is changed again? Which brings me to comment that changing the monetisation model and then also re-releasing, again with (different?) iaps is a big red flag for me. IF users can’t recover those previous iaps then that’s a big no no if that is the case here. I can’t confirm though since I didn’t buy anything previously. I do remember playing dimensions of Dream and it was quite fun for what it is. But I never spent money on it and having seen all of this, definitely won’t be anytime soon. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 703 113 #8 anthony78, Mar 23, 2021 I did notice on the original version that it shows the additional characters as being unlocked and all IAPs removed. Just says you have to compete the first dream to play them as them now. Maybe as a thank you to early supporters? Not sure Ijipop Well-Known Member Jul 25, 2012 557 268 63 #9 Ijipop, Mar 23, 2021 Yeah well, I had bought all characters in the first one. Tried the latest and I would have to pay over again. So I deleted it. It’s quite a deception since the first one will probably be left to slowly die. Meh. Appstore is always full of surprises. Ringerill and Son of Anarchy like this. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #10 Ringerill, Mar 25, 2021 What the heck is this again? Since the beta, this game has been changed so many times that I've lost track of it... The mechanics were changed, the IAPs were changed, the classes too, challenges, difficulties, etc. What I hated the most were changes done without any update or even description. You could come back a month later, not seeing any AppStore updates and still have all the game changed. Still wonder how they do that... So now this is yet another tentative at rebooting it and grabbing some cash or just a more serious studio taking over? I'll try it out and try to contact the devs on their Discord to understand what is going on and I'll let you know if this release is good news or not I wonder if this version also has this old loading message "You do now have to kill every enemy you see" even after they changed the game so that you have to kill all the enemies before fighting the boss... nickhoola and Ijipop like this. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #11 Ringerill, Mar 26, 2021 Okay, I've finally reached to some staff members to clarify the situation. Basically, the previous studio didn't maintain the game and because of some contracts issue between the previous publisher and developer, the new studio had to acquire it and publish as another app so that it didn't get removed from Google Play and the AppStore. So for those wondering about the differences from the previous game: there are none. It's the exact same one, minus some fixed bugs. So the good news are that a new company is taking over and it's more serious than the previous one. They have already corrected several bugs and tried to market the game better. The bad news are, RIP previous owners of the game. IAPs will not be refunded and you won't be able to transfer your previous purchases to the new game. Too bad because I personally don't want to take yet another risk paying for a game that will have a chance to disappear again from my inventory. Same thing happened to Spellsword Cards Origins already... Ijipop, ThirdMoon and nickhoola like this. Is it possible to unlock every content by playing or are some IAPS needed? Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #15 Ringerill, Mar 29, 2021 You can unlock 2 classes by playing (or paying) but 3 still need to be purchased. Each class costs $5 but there is a random sale where they each go for $3. Apart from the classes, there is a skill tree that you can fill by playing and earning the corresponding ressources or you can boost your way by buying the said ressources. There also seem to be some IAPs for skins and card upgrades. Skins are paid only but I believe that upgrades can be unlocked by playing. Ijipop likes this. ThirdMoon Well-Known Member May 21, 2014 124 18 18 #16 ThirdMoon, Mar 29, 2021 In my opinion this is one of the best games in the genre. As Ringerill said, you can unlock 2 classes by playing, so that’s 3 very different ways to play the game without spending a penny. The no-adverts purchase makes the game feel fully premium, and the remaining classes are essentially paid extra content beyond the base game. Even though I’m annoyed by having to start over in a new app and pay again, I like it enough to do so. Definitely worth trying free. Ijipop likes this. Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,616 377 83 #17 Talbs, Mar 29, 2021 This game basically uses the Dream Quest system of ‘exploring/uncovering’ tiles of a level and being able to come back to featured tiles for shops, healing etc. Unlike Slay the Spire which is node by node and you must go up/forward, never back. it’s not at all a bad thing. This is the one game imo, that is most like Dream quest. Ringerill likes this. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #18 Ringerill, Mar 29, 2021 Indeed Dream Quest seems to be a major inspiration for this game (it has Dreams in the titles after all). I'm however a little bit saddened by who the game evolved during the years and now requires less strategy and risk taking. During the first iterations, you had to chose what enemy to fight and what enemy to ignore (now you have to fight them all anyway). Often, the "featured tiles" as you called them were blocked by enemies so you had to chose what to prioritise. Most of the cards also had interesting but complicated synergies so you had to chose not only your deck right but also the right combination to play during the fights. It's not that it became easier, just less strategic and seems to rely much more on a nice mulligan than a correct combo (the only class than deals with combos is the Samurai one, and is the most fun to play imo). There are often cheesy items that break the game a lot and they aren't that hard to come by either. But for sure, new players should definitely pick this one. There is some nice challenge, daily quests, various play styles, graphics are pleasant... I unfortunately have too many deck building games to finish or catch up to before coming back to this one ThirdMoon, Ijipop, nickhoola and 1 other person like this. Burned out on my recent batch of daily play games, I loaded it out of “do I need the space this consumes” curiosity. I haven’t loaded any other games since it hooked me. This is my jam in a dozen different ways. So I played through & unlocked the two FTP toons, and it strikes me that with each successive one there is just a bit more power creep than the previous. Does the trend continue with the remaining unlockable toons? I mean I’m wondering about balance issues. I don’t want to pay for the remaining ones if they’re OP and cause the game to offer less challenge. If you’ve played ten games in your life with IAP, then you've played at least one where the unlockable content breaks the game. If this is that I’ll save my dough for another game. Thoughts? Some classes may have an obvious strong build, but there are many ways to play each class. I still play gladiator and samurai as much as elementalist and necromancer. Classes are less about power level and more about style of play. That said, later classes do make the early stages [“sweet dream”] easier, but nightmare is more balanced. Ijipop likes this.
