MetaGonzo Well-Known Member May 7, 2009 1,459 271 83 #2 MetaGonzo, Feb 3, 2021 Oh wow; I still had this on my phone and didn’t even realise it didn’t work anymore! Bummer. Still, it’s a great game and most importantly has a track editor (in fact that’s probably why it was great). Not sure if I’ll dip again; maybe if it took off and had lots of folks making tracks. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,972 722 113 England #3 psj3809, Feb 3, 2021 What are the controls like ? Is it on screen buttons ? Bit pricy but happy to help out the dev. Been a while since i've bought a game ! Used to buy 5 or 6 a week MetaGonzo Well-Known Member May 7, 2009 1,459 271 83 #6 MetaGonzo, Feb 5, 2021 Down to 2.99. Not sure if that’s a new permanent price; maybe it was launched at 5.99 in error. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #7 orangecan, Feb 5, 2021 Yeah me too, I thought I’d give it a go it’s been a while since I’ve played it and quite fancied revisiting it now it’s dropped slightly in price. And... it’s weird. It’s almost there but not quite. Controls are spot on but there’s a slightly weird floaty feel to them and from a graphical POV the car just doesn’t look quite right - again like it’s floating on occasion. Also, the UI, while fairly similar, now has a cast of stereotypical freeplay looking characters. I’ve just spent about half an hour on it and it is fun and it’s a good top down rally game but unless I’m misremembering badly it’s not as good as it was. MetaGonzo Well-Known Member May 7, 2009 1,459 271 83 #8 MetaGonzo, Feb 6, 2021 How odd; I wonder what would have merited such changes. It’s been so long since I’ve played it I’m not sure whether or not I’d notice any subtle changes; I certainly don’t like the sound of them. Im still tempted at the new price but now I’m torn. DonnyDJ76 Well-Known Member Nov 1, 2011 1,793 58 48 Male Teacher Hackensack, NJ #9 DonnyDJ76, Feb 6, 2021 The prior game was published by Chillingo, but it didn’t sell that well. It was an excellent game. This version is extremely similar, and I’m trying to figure out the differences between the two. Doesn’t make a difference to me what the players look like. It’s a really polished rally racer! I’ve tried the different control methods but like the standard one best. The only slight issue is the left turn and brake are slightly covered by the notch. I didn’t have any input issues though, but it would be nice if that was fixed for the new phones. I see there’s also MFI support. Gonna try my old MFI controller and maybe my XB1 controller to see if it works with console controllers. Definitely worth the 3 dollars for me. Well, the image doesn’t show the notch, but since the control inputs are so close to the left side of the screen, it slightly covers them. It would be nice if the touch boxes covered the entire four sections of the screen (at least for this particular control method) so you could touch anywhere in the upper left / right to steer and bottom lower left / right to brake. Not a deal breaker though, as I haven’t run into any issues with missing an input. Alex DeLargest Well-Known Member Dec 16, 2010 346 122 43 Male USA/France #11 Alex DeLargest, Feb 8, 2021 Missed this one the first time around. Great for the price. Reminds me of a rally-focused Reckless Racing. I like the handling and the quick stages. I don’t like the stunt gimmicks like the giant rock slide you have to jump at the end of the second Maine stage in the second career class. Also, I’ve done the tutorial but I’m still confused about how road and land elevation works in the editor. Wish they’d let you import greyscale bitmaps or google earth KMLs or something for terrain, as there’s some actual WRC stages and local dirt roads I’d love to recreate. Overall, the editor is fun but the fiddly (maybe faked?) way it handles elevation and grade makes it more useful for creating fanciful obstacle courses than actual rally stages. Which may be why the game is already resorting to silly obstacle course jumps and such in the 2nd class of the career. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #12 anthony78, Feb 8, 2021 I like it but it’s really hard (for me at least, lol). Maybe you can just pull the notch-covered buttons back on screen! Since then, EA closed Chillingo and our game has been removed from the store this summer. We have basically just taken the old code and added some some new assets from the version we are making for Switch. Otherwise it's the same game as before. Vlada, Inputwish Lull4by likes this.
