Haven’t had a chance to spend a lot of time with it, but so far this is really my jam. It’s much more an arcade experience than a simulator, but there’a still a ton of depth, especially with plane and weapons upgrades. So glad that they went premium with it, because this could have been a nightmare of IAPs, currencies, and timers in the typical free to play game. The controls are good, there’s a lot of immersive world building (typical of Warhammer games), the voice acting is fun — basically, if you like this kind of dogfighting game, you’re in for a treat. anthony78 and Skall like this. mgambino Well-Known Member Aug 13, 2014 159 95 28 #8 mgambino, Jan 29, 2021 Damn, this is the best 40k game I never knew I needed. And frankly, I’m not sure it would work — not enough of a field of view for the kind of tight-turn environments they have here. Also, the snap turn move would be a tough one to pull off in first person (I think). As I said above, this is not supposed to be a simulation. Truncana likes this. I could dig that. As it is, though, I’m appreciating the standard “stick” controls with relative throttle control on the right. I also like how easy it is to do barrel rolls. anthony78 likes this. And poorly combined with poor - and, yeah, arcade style - physics. it’s proving very easy, particularly on the ground attack levels, to follow target trails and then (through messy sharp turns and target location and poor physics) immediately lose 75% of Hull points and shield (or whatever) through being pinballed between obstacles. I am only s few levels in. I can believe it improves or that I’ll work out appropriate tactics. It isn’t selling itself to me atm tho. Repetitive levels with repetitive designs, early on. Yeah, I did like my first gun upgrade. Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #16 Quoad, Feb 6, 2021 And arbitrary failure. Just failed a 7 minute mission bc I “failed to protect a lander”. Mission = a very slow dither around a force field, shoot three widely spaced generators with nothing in between to spice it up, shoot central generator (by now @5mins), oh a lander is coming in, protect it, it’s too far away to reach / protect, mission end failure. Feels arbitrary, damage and failure both. Which I don’t like. Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,108 217 63 #17 Quoad, Feb 12, 2021 Later discovery, towards the end of planet one, “shoot 4 fighters” as a mission but they appear out of the fighting zone and I’m automatically turned back when seeking to chase them for “leaving the zone.” Has happened two or three times now. “The zone” is not marked and so I cannot stay within it, orientation is not straightforward when pointed up, and so the game becomes a series of pointless turns and having control wrested from me with mission targets inaccessible. I haven’t played it much and I doubt I’ll play it more. It all feels a bit beta, the graphics are frankly ugly and janky, controls are dreadful, and it feels like a series of gameplay systems patched together rather than a game with levels designed / worked in a functional way. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #18 anthony78, Feb 12, 2021 I’ve had a blast with this. Controls work very well for me and while the graphics aren’t all great, it doesn’t bother me that much when I’m enjoying the game. I had lower expectations and have been pleasantly surprised.
