On average, there are more than 30 legal chess moves available to a player in a turn, creating vigintillions of possibilities throughout a game. Lazy Chess compresses that by having you choose only two in a given turn selected by Stockfish, the most robust chess engine in the world. The catch? You won’t know which move is the best! Learn and have fun while you compete against a highly skilled AI or online friends and random opponents. Unlock new themes and settings that can change how many options you choose from or the difficulty of the AI. Hone your chess skills while you move up in the leaderboards and play unique scenarios of famous board states provided from some of the world's most active grandmasters. Lazy Chess is open source and available on GitHub. It was developed by Cinq-Mars Media, an educational non-profit with projects and games featured at E3, PAX and festivals worldwide. Such a great idea for those like me who can’t be bothered to think three moves ahead with three alternates for every possible move and counter move. Unlike some novelty chess games this one doesn’t mess with the rules, just gives two choices to analyse each turn. It’s like a series of chess puzzles, though progressing through complete games rather than analysing individual situations. Being powered by Stockfish the choices presented should be trustworthy. Asp Well-Known Member Aug 3, 2017 769 196 43 #3 Asp, Jan 30, 2021 Good to see a thousand year old game make it to Game of the Week! Well deserved though for being a great digital update. As mentioned in the front page article it also works well as a tutor without having to take on the whole board at once. And completely free, or $3 donation to unlock full options. These include a couple of challenges starting from situations in famous games of Garry Kasparov and er... Beth Harmon, from which play can be taken forward. Hope they add more of these. I hope I missed something and that is not the case. Asp Well-Known Member Aug 3, 2017 769 196 43 #5 Asp, Jan 30, 2021 You are right @ShinHadoukin. I had been returning to games fairly quickly so they were still in memory allowing me to continue. However, I see that if the app is restarted then a game in progress is lost. Seems like lazy coding. Game of the Week award cancelled. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #6 anthony78, Jan 30, 2021 Tried it after the GoTW. Not that impressed. My GoTW is Dakka Squadron. Asp Well-Known Member Aug 3, 2017 769 196 43 #8 Asp, Feb 10, 2021 No saves have been added, but it has to be said that with this superfast system my average game time has been around 10 minutes. The update has some interesting new modes making it an even more effective tutor/improver. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
