Nice find dude...this wasn't supposed to be out till Friday. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #3 metalcasket, Jan 13, 2021 I'm kind of over FMV games because the 90's Night Trap/Phantasmagoria old school cheesiness has been replaced by modern, uninspired FMV games with shit acting and no charm to balance everything out...but this is seriously, seriously impressive. The technology is almost magical, to be honest. Granted the first launch experience of having to download additional data multiple times is a little off-putting, but I have no doubt I'll be forking over the bucks for the full version. Everything so far is beautiful looking, convincing, immediately captivating and the acting is great. But with the short duration, it's very hard to tell where the story would go. Also, it's a shame that the game is not fullscreen. Even after so many years of such devices. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #5 metalcasket, Jan 13, 2021 Don't forget that you're talking about an interactive movie, buddy. It's all about the aspect ratio. You aren't able to watch videos on your notched device in full screen without sacrificing being able to see everything by double-tapping/activating zoom mode...right? Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #6 Rocksaint, Jan 13, 2021 Honestly speaking, I rarely even use the zoom to watch videos fullscreen on my notched device (unless the video is meant to be watched that way). But I just felt this info might be relevant to some, irrespective of it being an interactive movie or a game. (I'm sure there'll be people going into this thinking it's a game) anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #7 anthony78, Jan 13, 2021 I actually have this game on PS4 from PS+ a while back but it has been sitting in my backlog. I think FMV games are a better fit with mobile so decided to give this a shot. Seems good so far but the downloads are REALLY annoying and take you out of the game. Do they give you the option to download the whole thing after you buy the full game? If not, I will just play it on PS4. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #8 metalcasket, Jan 13, 2021 Just purchased the full game and thankfully the spacing out between the second download (that you get in the free portion) and third (immediately when you purchase the game) is longer than the first to second. That said, it's still odd and it's incredibly immersion-breaking, but perhaps the upside is it's better than having to download a massive file right when you first launch the game (especially if you don't end up buying the full game unlock)? I think a little tweak, as both you and Mikhail (front-page article) implied, where you could maybe just download the entirety of additional data in one fell swoop from the settings menu would alleviate all of this. Good thing is...annoying or not, the individual download sessions are relatively short (even on my garbage connection) and can be done on a data connection if you so choose. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #9 metalcasket, Jan 14, 2021 Hilariously, right before I went to bed, that data download had finished. Because I don't have the greatest connection I presume it gets to a point where the game has to stall for me until it can finish downloading. I sincerely hope Flavourworks are monitoring this thread and overhaul the download manager. This is so beyond frustrating. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #18 Rocksaint, Jan 14, 2021 Got the full game. Didn't have any download in background issues as mentioned in few of the above comments. Runs quite flawlessly to be honest. Got a bit of an audio-visual sync issue when dialogue options appear while playing with bluetooth earphones. Hopefully it was a one time thing and won't happen again. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 704 113 #19 anthony78, Jan 14, 2021 At least for me in the US, it isn’t a download in the background issue. It literally stops the game with a screen that says download manager and you have to wait for it to finish to keep playing. Completely breaks the immersion. I’m holding off on the full version to see if there’s an update to change it to one full download. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #20 Rocksaint, Jan 14, 2021 That sucks. It goes completely against the true nature of this game - immersion. But it's also weird that it happens for some and not for others. I think the entire game downloaded for me right off the bat from the App Store (before the full game purchase). So not sure why it's different for different people. Probably something to do with the app present on different App Stores. Can't think of anything else. Would be good if there was a way to contact the developers.
