Depends on how grotesque the F2P elements are. bluspacecow Well-Known Member May 3, 2012 161 1 18 #6 bluspacecow, Jan 8, 2021 I am ..... really liking this game. Gameplay is divided into a series of hand drawn , full screen stages. For each stage you fight 2 - 3 enemies who come at you with a variety of weapons. Every 5th stage there’s a mini boss after which you get awarded treasure or a choice of 1 of 2 nice buffs (eg the shrine maiden may give you a buff that increases attack power , the hermit can give you either a fire sword or a poisoned sword). Every 10th stage there’s a boss fight. As you progress in the levels you level up (starting at level 1). Each time time you level up you get given a choice of 3 randomly selected buffs. These vary widely and can be quite fun depending on which buffs you choose. Combat is very tight - you have a block button , a posture gauge and an attack button. You can move around by holding the block button down and moving around. You can parry and instantly counter attack. If you break their posture gauge stunning them allowing you a few free shots on their undefended body. You can dash attack to get at those annoying rifleman. There’s also a flash attack for when your enemy does a heavy attack but it’s hard for me to get the timings right. There’s weapons and gear you can upgrade including a pet collar that you get buffs from. The pets don’t directly attack they just give you an extra attack - my cat spends much of the stage lazying around being a cat lol. The great sword is slow but can hit multiple enemies and has high damage. The twin swords are insanely fast ,relatively low damage but has high posture damage. The middle sword has a great balance of damage , speed and posture damage. I can get up to level 20 before dying so no the game doesn’t hobble you if you don’t pay for their IAP. It is a tiny bit difficult to start out but once you you get better at fighting and open a 1-2 free gear chests it starts getting easier in the earlier stages as you get better at things. The game’s IAP doesn’t pay wall you at all as far as I can tell and the only adverts that pop up are ones you voluntary opt to watch when you die and your out of resurrect scrolls. But for a decent player that’s pretty far up the stages after you’ve burned a free resurrect buff so it feels worth it to watch an ad to extend your play session. Out of all the games I’ve downloaded in the last few weeks this is the one that’s captured my interest. Each run I do I’m getting something back either in the sense of learning some new aspect of the combat or in the good old grinding up mats for my next gear upgrade. Don’t let the IAP chase you away - ignore it. Make it your challenge to get as far as you can .... for free. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,714 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #7 squarezero, Jan 8, 2021 Sounds good, but I haven’t been able to get the game to start on my iPhone 12 — “loading” gets stuck at 70%. Is this just happening to me? Tried deleting and reinstalling with no luck. bluspacecow Well-Known Member May 3, 2012 161 1 18 #8 bluspacecow, Jan 8, 2021 I’ve only seen 1 comment on their Facebook page - it was a complaint about it instant crashing on an iPhone 7 with 12.4 installed. they also recently pushed out a 1.0 update. Could also check if you have the latest update. Lastly check the network you are connecting with. On my work Wi-Fi it doesn’t load. Had to to hot spot off my iPhones cellular connection for it to work. squarezero likes this. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,714 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #9 squarezero, Jan 8, 2021 Ah — wifi is probably it.
