Assign their tasks, manage their resources, choose their laws, and direct their propaganda. Determine which of the animals will make sacrifices and which will be “more equal than others.” George Orwell’s 1945 novella was a scathing critique of totalitarianism in the early days of the Soviet Union. Since then, it has spoken to people of many ideologies in countries around the world. It offers a powerful awareness of how power can be abused – and of how generation after generation seeks a more just and equal society, where the many do not suffer at the hands of the few. Orwell’s Animal Farm brings the familiar characters and situations to the medium of a game, and to the context of 2020. Depending on how you play, you may encounter situations very close to those in the book, or others influenced by events Orwell never lived to see. Play it to explore a classic tale from inside. Play it to try your hand at running the farm – or because you dream of spreading Animalism across the world. Play it because you’ve always wanted to oversee a construction project by a herd of cows. Play it because Boxer deserved better. Jokes aside, I think the most apt way to describe this is a Nerial take on a visual novel. If you’ve played any of the Reigns games that’ll make a ton of sense. Doesn't stray too far from the source material and I think feels different enough to not be considered another Reigns game, but there's nothing too groundbreaking about it. Can be finished in one sitting and encourages multiple playthroughs (thanks to 8 endings). I say it's worth checking out just to see how a 1945 novella can still be incredibly relevant in 2020. As you play as animals, you are creating your own kingdom called Animalism where all animals must work together on Mr Jones’ farm to survive without any human help. You will go through all seasons and deal with the difficulty it each presents to you. Sometimes you have to fix the roof and sometimes work on the farm and worry about food stock. Your decision evolves mainly around the ideas of leadership, question & doubt and persuasion, resulting in death, better/worse harvests or animals in your Kingdom getting away. For example, in my playthrough, Snowball (one of the main characters in the George Orwell’s) died way too early in the game, leaving Squealer to deal with Napoleon. What’s more, in each year/season you will make decisions about who’s doing what, and on the Sunday meeting all animals share their thoughts or argue about what to do next in order to survive. There are different endings to the game. Orwell’s Animal Farm seems like a survival game that takes a simple, choice-based approach. skoptic Well-Known Member Apr 3, 2015 634 82 28 #12 skoptic, Dec 19, 2020 Soooooo incredibly relevant, I reread it a few months ago (well listened to audiobook) and it was perfect(ly awful). I'll pick this up just to support Nerial & the theme! metalcasket likes this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
