I’m going to pick this up tomorrow, because the developer is Rideon Japan, who made Adventure Bar Story and Marenian Tavern Story. Those are great games Ringerill and ste86uk like this. mgambino Well-Known Member Aug 13, 2014 159 95 28 #3 mgambino, Oct 9, 2020 Anyone who picks this up, please give us your thoughts on this one. I usually avoid Kemco, but if Rideon is behind this, it should be way better than their typical stuff. Brightsiderus Well-Known Member Feb 1, 2017 2,234 540 113 #4 Brightsiderus, Oct 9, 2020 Pretty solid game, Rideon Style. You create party of five people and run them over the dungeons in search for ingredients, then create items and sell them. You can change class and belief of every character. verlaine Well-Known Member Jul 26, 2012 216 1 18 #5 verlaine, Oct 10, 2020 How is this different and/or similar to Marenian Tavern Story? Marenian Tavern Story was fun at first, but then it became a repetitive grind combined with dull ingredient/restaurant micro-management. I probably will buy it just because I want to support Rideon and hope they continue to make more games. I think they make the best games Kemco has in recent times. Ringerill likes this. Brightsiderus Well-Known Member Feb 1, 2017 2,234 540 113 #8 Brightsiderus, Oct 10, 2020 No, I don’t think so. It’s classic JRPG with material gathering and other things, but maps are always the same. I wish they could do it roguelike style with procedure generated maps, but it’s not bad the way it’s done AltsKev likes this. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #9 Ringerill, Oct 15, 2020 Indeed, if it is in the same vein as the Tavern Story games, I’ll pick it up. Just looking at the small trailer makes it look like these games and I think we all loved them You’ll probably have to wait for a week or two before I can post my impressions. Quite a busy period but I really want to try this one out! It seems to have a more complex system of crafting with trees and improvements. Also, the party being bigger (3 max before in Tavern stories) and characters being able to change their class and more makes me really curious about the strategic aspect of it. Usually you had to chose your party carefully because each had their specials skills and you had to position them to respond to certain attacks accordingly. Here I wonder if it will be harder to tweak the perfect party or if it will just be a full frontal assault with personalization just being here for fun more then strategy. mgambino Well-Known Member Aug 13, 2014 159 95 28 #10 mgambino, Oct 15, 2020 I bit the bullet on this one because I really liked the Tavern one as well. It is pretty fun, mostly collecting resources to make your own weapons and the weapons you sell. You also unlock more formations to put put your party in and additional classes and secondary classes as you go on. Also, just using front line assault or warriors will just get you destroyed in the harder areas... you actually do have to pay attention to enemy stats. ThirdMoon likes this. Brightsiderus Well-Known Member Feb 1, 2017 2,234 540 113 #11 Brightsiderus, Oct 18, 2020 I encountered some problems that I can’t seem to resolve myself. I have created too much items (I.e., Broadsword), and now have 100% so it appear as “broadsword+”. But in Request I need to give ordinary Broadsword, but I don’t know how to do that, since they not taking version+. P.S. Actually, I’m just dumb, because I needed to remove items from display and then complete the request. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #12 Ringerill, Oct 23, 2020 It took some time due to the schedule but I was able to invest some hours in the game and reach level 30. I am really sad that the game is so easy I was also disappointed to see how linear the game is with no mysteries and hidden aspects whatsoever... Female characters have HUUUGGGEE..... personalities however... I guess you can't espace that now. It is really fun to discover the game, play around with the formations, the classes and subclasses, etc. But in the end, all these possibilities get down to an obvious optimisation that allows you to roll over every combat and bosses (I never had my party wipe or lost against a boss in the first try). The fact that you can have 5 team members allows you to be the perfect party that can do everything. Usually, you have to deal with 3 party members and you would still have some lacks in strategy and you would have to switch members to adapt to specific situations. By having a tank, heal, mage, thief and archer, you basically have everything you will ever need. And the choice of equipments and faiths is pretty obvious as well (HP regen for the tank, MP regen for the mage and heal, evasion for the thief and damage for the archer). With that, nothing can really stop you, especially if you take the subclasses that stay in the same range of mechanics (Elementalist with Mage, Knight with Warrior, etc). Even better, I've managed to achieve a point where I could infinitely farm a zone without leaving it because I would be able to regen enough mana to heal everybody and achieve an equilibrium. However, I am not saying that the game is bad, on the opposite. I just though that what I experienced from the Tavern titles would transfer here and have more addition but it just got simplified. That being said, I still enjoy the game and will try to finish it. Maybe there this will get trickier later on? I love the crafting tree though. It looks really simple at first but it gets more interesting as it progresses with some special weapons. I am however disappointed that it doesn't follow the Monster Hunter mechanic where you have to build everything step by step, starting from the basic weapon and upgrading it along the tree. Here, you can directly craft the end one if you have the materials and nothing else is required. I still expected to see some cool weapons or special items stolen from bosses, like in the other Rideo games but all we get are stat books. I guess this would contradict the whole smithing mechanic. In the end, the best strategy is to have the most balanced party, put some nice orbs on weapons and equipments and don't forget an elemental orb specific to each area. If you struggle, put the Fire element to your weapons and you'll soon realise how many enemies are weak to it. To conclude, I would simply warn Rideon fans who liked the Tavern series to be careful when picking this game. It looks similar, feels similar but some things are lacking and that could make you feel bad. There are no special items, no hidden paths in maps (at least I haven't found it even if I tried hard), no real side quests, no attachment to party members since they are generic mercenaries, no rewarding feeling when leveling up in rank of your Smithy and no real story progression... mgambino Well-Known Member Aug 13, 2014 159 95 28 #13 mgambino, Oct 24, 2020 I think I like this one more than you, but it’s definitely a weaker game than Tavern Story. That being said, I hope they keep the larger party size in their next game, but make them actual characters (even cliches) rather than just a party of player generated combat toys. I’d still recommend it to anyone that likes Rideon’s games, though maybe wait for a sale. Ringerill Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2012 315 170 43 #14 Ringerill, Oct 25, 2020 Yeah, maybe I sounded a little bit pessimistic. I do like this game and I don’t regret buying it (even just for supporting the devs). I mainly wanted to say that I was sad not seeing more Rideon involvement in the mechanics. Just wanted to make that clear in case some were expecting this game to be like the Tavern series. And yes, if they make actual characters with their own story instead of nameless mercenaries that would be cool! Maybe let us also place characters as we like instead of having predefined formations? It would have been cool to discover these formations by trial and error and see what actual bonuses you got from it. SketchyDoodle New Member Dec 18, 2011 2 0 1 #15 SketchyDoodle, Oct 30, 2020 Last edited: Nov 7, 2020 Been playing the game for about a week now and still enjoy the craft grinding but don't find this game being discussed anywhere and also there is barely any information on it. I'm currently at about lv50 and wanted to share some tips: You earn in game premium currency simply by opening your shop, so there really is no need to buy any with real money. I seems to be random when you get it. Sometimes I got it and sometimes I didn't. By around Lv50 I had gotten about 70 of the premium currency. A character unlocks passives from a class by simply changing to that class once. So when you get a new class, just change your characters to that class once to unlock the passive and then change your class back. You then get access to those passives from any other class. I don't know if this was intentional or a bug but I find it a strange game mechanic. Buying one of the Orbs from the premium shop actually unlocks that orb in the regular item store. After that you can buy as many of that orb as you want using regular gold. So don't hesitate to get the Restore MP lv5 Orb that can give anyone a 10MP regen. Another great purchase from the premium shop is the 3 star Mining Pick that gives you 3 gathering from 1 mining node, this costs 40 currency though. Don't hesitate to spam opening your shop. I started playing this game by actually doing all the 'dailies' but then later realized there is no drawback to passing multiple days without doing any dungeons. At some point, I think I was around lv30 but probably this can be done earlier, you might as well just buy ALL or most of the materials you need to maximize affinity for your crating recipies from the item shop. If you then just sell everything at the max prize, you will end up making profit. And you can just fill your shop and open your shop as many times as you want till everything is sold. The whole decreasing your prize to increase sales and satisfaction aspect.. it is of no use it seems? Once you realize this... you basically have unlimited money, it just takes a lot of time to craft and sell everything. I still haven tested a lot of the skill from the different classes but found that the Tamer has some great skills, it has has a Quadruple Attack skill that costs 10mp, which is free if you equip the MP Lv5 orb. Anyone else has any tips to share? Edit: After typing above message I finished the rest of the game about day after. Total playing time was around 35h for completing all requests, reaching lvl99 and maximizing affinities of all recipies. Some more tips: Unlock the HP Orb V and HP and MP Orb IV if you have enough premium currency. Giving each of your party members +500HP is pretty game breaking. I generally used the formations that increase ATK. Initial bosses can be quite tough, but using these Orbs will help a lot. Spam the Arena to get particular monster drops. Once you unlock the next map, you get access to buy all monster drops from the previous map. Also spamming the level that has the monster that drops the item you are looking for helps. I didn't use any books and still steam rolled most content. My final party was: Knight/Figher - sometimes using Provoke for bosses, otherwise used the single target Power/Fire attacks from Fighter Tamer/Dancer - powerful attack skills from Tamer (the 4 x attack skill from Tamer is never used by the AI unfortunately) and some good support from Dancer. Monk/Fighter - High single target damage Priest/Sage - Healing/Area Spells Mage/Sage - Backup Healing/Single&Area Spells I gave ALL my characters the MP Recovery Passive + MP Recovery Orb + MP Recovery Faith for basically unlimited MP. Abnormal State recovery lv 5 passive is extremely useful, use it on all characters. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
