Was getting buyers remorse for recently upgrading my iPhone as I thought I’d miss out on Stadia and XCloud but this is great news. I’ve tried it and it works really well on my iPhone. Please don’t block this Apple. almeyras New Member Sep 30, 2020 1 0 1 Male #3 almeyras, Sep 30, 2020 Great work. Edit: There is an article on Pocket Tactics describing what this app is. Not sure if I want to jump onto this. As far as I understand, this is a tool to access a game streaming service, claiming to be a browser to avoid conflicts with AppStore rule. With all the drama around Epic and xcloud, there is a very high chance this app just gets removed, with another line or two added to the AppStore rule. ste86uk likes this. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #7 squarezero, Sep 30, 2020 Haven’t been able to make it work on my iPhone XS. I can get all the way to signing in to the store and select games, but when I hit play I either get a “Refresh Account Access” loop or the game home page. Anybody else having this issue? squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #8 squarezero, Sep 30, 2020 BTW — this is how Amazon will run their game service on iPhone. Apple has already said that they’re okay with this approach. That could change, of course. Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #9 Jstorm, Sep 30, 2020 Oh ok. I don’t understand why xcloud is not ok, while it’s ok for Amazon though. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #10 squarezero, Sep 30, 2020 Xcloud is not browser based. Stadia and Amazon’s Luna are. Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #11 Jstorm, Sep 30, 2020 Well, I don’t understand why it is ok to provide a game streaming service via browser, while not ok as an app. I thought the whole point was Apple being not happy with losing the control on AppStore, and the money. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #12 squarezero, Sep 30, 2020 Well, that’s what most people think. But it’s more complicated than that. Basically, there are two issues: 1) Apple doesn’t want an OS within their OS. They see an app-based streaming system as essentially that. In their view, browsers are different: they may imitate an app user experience, but essentially all they do is deliver content. 2) Apple wants all app money transactions to go through the Apple payment infrastructure. That gets Apple it’s 30% cut while maintaining Apple security and user experience standards. Again, Apple sees browsers as different: as far as they are concerned, if you pay in a browser, you are using an infrastructure that they did not build, and that means that you are on your own, security-wise. Here’s an example that I haven’t seen covered in the media. My son doesn’t really like Fortnite (he’s more of a Minecraft kid), but let’s say he does. As it was before all this Epic nonsense started, any IAP purchase he’d made through the iPhone would have required parental notification and approval (that’s our family setup on iOS). By setting up an alternate payment system, Epic would have gotten around that system and made it possible for my son to go nuts without me knowing about it. That would have been great for Epic, since they love a teenage whale with mommy or daddy’s credit card. But as a parent, it would make it more difficult to manage having a young teen with a phone in my family. That’s one reason I am Apple customer; without the walled garden, I would see Apple products as less valuable. In any event, I’m hoping that I can make this app work on my phone. Would not be surprised if Microsoft figures out how to do xCloud through a web address as well to do the same. In the end, it will only be Apple that loses. Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #16 Jstorm, Sep 30, 2020 I got the first part, but still confused with the second part. With the logic, some in game currency can be purchased via a web browser and charged to an app that uses its own login system. Also you let your son access your credit card? I never got to use my parent’s credit card until I turned 18, and that’s because I studied abroad. Things change I guess. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #17 squarezero, Sep 30, 2020 Absolutely. But that’s the point. Within the Apple system, I can set him up to request purchases without giving him my credit card and with my approval. With an Epic-run system, that’s not the case. Sure, he can get around that, but stealing my credit card is a leap I can reasonably expect him not to make. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #18 squarezero, Sep 30, 2020 See my answer above. Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #19 Jstorm, Sep 30, 2020 Ok. So whatever your son tries to purchase needs to be authorized by you. As of refresh access thing didn’t you get an email from google? It seems the prompt is asking for authentication from you to access your account from a new device. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #20 squarezero, Sep 30, 2020 Exactly. In fact, it also covers free downloads and Apple Arcade. Approval takes two clicks — very conviniéndote. And thanks — I’ll check my email. That could be it. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
