Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #3 Stronsay, Aug 7, 2020 No gameplay loop as such. More a series of interactive story chapters. Make decisions, and assign commanders to lead expeditions. Well presented, giving the impression of a persistent world where you await the return of ravens carrying messages. The text size seems unnecessarily small though. adin and Rocksaint like this. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #4 orangecan, Aug 7, 2020 I’ve just given it fifteen mins or so and I’m not sure if it’s either just not for me or I’m completely clueless about what I’m meant to be doing. Or both. It’s certainly well presented but it feels a bit like a GoT spinoff of a genre/game I’m meant to already be familiar with but have completely missed.... Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #5 Stronsay, Aug 8, 2020 Give it another 15. It works like most interactive fiction by selecting from multiple choices. Choose either a course of action, or a mission leader to send out an expedition. Also tap on leaders to view their strengths before assigning. Ravens fly in real time to deliver messages so best to have notifications set. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #6 orangecan, Aug 9, 2020 Yep you’re right, the gameplay certainly clicks in after a few more goes. I’m still not entirely sure it’s for me but I’m going to put some more time into it. It’s very well done and I’m interested to see if it does grab me. Stronsay likes this. It‘s just a super beautiful choose your own adventurr story within the GOT universe. I really like the slow pace. It‘s soothing somehow. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #8 Stronsay, Aug 9, 2020 Yes, recalling a world before instant communication when the pace of life was slower; and the type of game which can probably only exist on mobile devices. Apparently the microscopic text size is just an issue for iPads, so hopefully that gets sorted. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #9 orangecan, Aug 9, 2020 I’ve been enjoying the slow pace of it up until the point it just told me to ‘come back later’. So I’ve literally nothing to do. orangecan Well-Known Member Aug 9, 2011 2,000 150 63 #10 orangecan, Aug 9, 2020 Actually ignore that. I’m still enjoying it. I’ve turned notifications on which I never do for anything. Got to admit I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this but I’m getting well into it now. Although I already started over once as I was unhappy with a decision I made while tired. But sad that starting again generates random names as I’d come to like the original names. The first time my Lord Commander was impulsive which I didn’t want as a trait, this time I have Veteran which sounds better. The main downside to me is that it doesn’t stay open very long at all in multitasking so is always relaunching which isn’t a very fast sequence for what is small shots of gameplay. SoftBoil Member Aug 10, 2020 10 3 3 #12 SoftBoil, Aug 10, 2020 Are there consequences for the decisions? Without any visible stats the choices seem to be mostly flavour. I wish there was a count of crows and allies gained. Or leaders gaining experience. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #13 Stronsay, Aug 11, 2020 There can be consequences, some will set you back, others may open up new map areas. Plus, if you value your leaders, it’s advisable to select those with appropriate skills for the type of expedition. And you basically do only check on 3 expeditions and 1 event at Castle Black each time. So, each time opening up the app is a matter of 20-40 seconds. Those extra comments/decition in the middle menu (that eye) don‘t matter at all and repeat way too quickly. I‘m about to delete the game, since I‘m simply not invested at all at this point. Nothing matters. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #15 Stronsay, Aug 11, 2020 I disagree about nothing critical happening, storywise, and would be interested to know how many chapters you completed. But sure, there’s minimal activity. The idea is to fire the imagination where the action will be happening. Doesn’t work for everyone. And seriously nothing dramatic ever happened. Like I’ve found using some for certain expeditions give different options and tried restarting a few times to see if much differs but not much really has. Trying to decide if I want my Lord Commander to be a Veteran or Charming both seem helpful. I can’t work out what difference any of the traits seem to offer either - as Nonstickron says this seems like it would be the perfect game for the Iwatch. Rocco SE likes this.
