Actually a lot of fun. Doesn’t seem story driven and there appears to be a lot of replay value. But...if Apple wants this program to succeed, a lot of changes need to be made. How can they release a previously advertised title with all of the bugs mentioned above? Where is the quality assurance department? Almost every single title is released before it is ready. Many games have been updated completely since last September, but they should have been released in their updated format. These games should be running 60FPS on any device supported by iOS 13. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #13 squarezero, Aug 21, 2020 To be clear, the bugs are happening on the beta version of iOS 14. To expect a game to work perfectly on a beta operating system is silly: there’s a reason it’s on beta. As far as performance, I agree in theory. But I can tell you that there are many console and PC games that release with less than optimal frame rate (recent example: Bloodstained on Switch). I expect that performance will improve with updates in the near future. From what I’ve heard, constant support is one of the requirement for Apple Arcade. Pretty much everything I’ve downloaded from AA has been very active in the update front. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,971 722 113 England #14 psj3809, Aug 21, 2020 It runs fine. The people saying they have issues are running a beta version of iOS 14. It’s a beta version of unreleased software. I wish people would stop saying there’s issues when they’re on iOS 14 beta as it’s causing issues. Can we stick to software which is out leokamiya Well-Known Member Sep 20, 2017 52 35 18 #15 leokamiya, Aug 21, 2020 When running betas I always report directly to developers about issues I find. It’s important to find this stuff before iOS 14 releases. And the game has other issues, people got to the 3rd level and found a spot on the map without collision. You just fall through it and there’s no way around the holes. Whether the game is running on iOS 13 or 14 the issues need to be reported so they can be fixed and people made aware. Hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy the game soon. That aside, I am also worried about how Apple is handling QA of Apple Arcade titles, the games are very often released broken or incomplete. It’s not a good look. JJE likes this. Really? Are you new to gaming? JJE Well-Known Member Feb 22, 2012 63 1 8 Artist Boston, Massachusetts #20 JJE, Aug 22, 2020 lol I can see where you would think that. No I was just reacting to the Arcade seemingly be unable to launch a title lately without some major snafu. I stopped playing Steel Sky after a game ending glitch stopped me about a third of the way in. Last week Next stop Nowhere had entire rooms where nothing worked and again my progress got crushed. Both are story driven games I was looking forward to and to be fair I was immersed until progress halted. So it was when SJ got released I decided to hold back and see community reaction before I sunk time into something the ultimately might stop working. When the Arcade released it was with the promise of good looking Indy games, on a fairly frequent release schedule Games would be moderately short but would act as a showcase for iOS gaming. No software survives release to the public without the need for some tweaking. That’s a given. What is not a given are game halting bugs stoping everything dead in its tracks. it’s likely I will play SJ but only after a week or two in the hands of players. It’s unfortunate that Apples near weekly release schedule has put such pressure on developers that QA has suffered. I have no intention of dropping my sub. I can point to a number of games that highlight what a great recurring service the Arcade can become. I still eagerly await The Pathless. But currently the Arcade is like a dark joke. Flaws in a new game, I can live with. Progress halting bugs are another thing altogether. It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Apple. I know they can turn this around, they’ve done it before. I only hope they can before public perception of Apple Arcade sours completely. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
