A moment of excitement, mixed with fear and hesitation. The last months have been very hard working on Herodom. Not only because of the circumstances we currently find ourselves in, but just working on this game has been a rollercoaster of experiences and emotions. At moments I have had all the energy to work through the nights on this game, next to working the regular 9-5 job building mobile applications for a big finance company in the Netherlands. But the last months my energy depleted, and I did not feel that excited anymore about Herodom. I saw all it’s glitches and missing elements and did not enjoy playing it for a single bit, which was even more disturbing. Somehow I have made it here, and after the hard work of creating some nice (I hope you like them as well) screenshots and previews it is now live in the AppStore and it feels great again! Herodom is free to download and does not contain any advertisements or lootboxes (I really dislike those mechanics). It does have 1 in-app purchase, that will unlock the complete game if you like to continue playing after level 5. I think this is the most fair way to get people to try out the game, and only purchase if they really like it. This will also be the only in-app purchase in Herodom, so any additional content I will make will automatically be available if you once bought the full version. I’m looking forward to continue working on Herodom, and yes I know I should not expect too much of it. Thousands of apps land in the store daily, many of which are probably more interesting for most people than Herodom. But still, I have hope it will make some gamers happy. I hope that it will allow me in the end to pursue a more dedicated career in the game industry. Currently I do have a child and one upcoming to take care of, so there is no way of working less hours on the regular job. But maybe Herodom will allow me to do this in the end. There is a lot of things I would still like to do, I am definitely not finished yet! But for now, back to reality. I hope you enjoy the trailer, and if you are interested, please try out and leave a review! Ghostdog1 Well-Known Member Jan 30, 2015 319 124 43 #6 Ghostdog1, Jul 25, 2020 First of all im really impressed in what you try with this game. But for me it is too hard and unforgiving in the beginning. I gave up while playing the 4th map. Seeing all the troops die again and again is too frustrating. The game also does not respect my time. Placing troops even on ipad is a hell without a grid and wrong deployed troops are not sellable, so you always need to restart a map once you messed up and bought too many troops. And you deploy troops after every wave so you can even mess up shortly before winning. Strategy, tactics and resources are not really explained. I felt lost starting with map 4. The steep learning curve and hard difficulty makes me really scratch my head. Im a player who loves hard games like FTL. Hard games take your hand and bring you slowly into getting better. Here it just threw me off. The games difficulty seems to be set up by super skilled players like the developers themself. Herodom likes this. Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #7 Jstorm, Jul 25, 2020 Tried the game up to lvl4 on iPad and generally liking the game. Here are the list of things that I think that can be improved 1. Text size Yes, it’s too small on a phone. Not a problem on an iPad though. 2. Unit placement It feels like the point I press and the point the game recognizes as pressed is a bit offset to the right. Also, it’s somewhat annoying being told that there is already a soldier in the spot. Clearly a player wants to place something in the next column, so I hope the game understands that and acts accordingly. Another rather minor thing is, instead of prompting the resources required per unit and making the player do math of the resources/unit cost, I hope the game tells me how many I can currently place with remaining resources. 3. Heroes Well... this may change as heroes level up, but at the least heroes I currently have access to don’t feel like something that would change the tide of a battle. Maybe late stage heroes hold such a strength? Anyways, I can tell that you have put quite some love into the game, so I will very likely to purchase the game after stage 5. I really appreciate it, I love to make Herodom better and this is exaclty what I need. 1. Textsize: You are not the first to mention this lately. I recently added iPad support, and had to change the font size logic in the app. I think I might have screwed up somewhere which made the fontsize decrease on iPhone. an you tell me where you think it is too small, or is too small on all menu's/ screens? BTW what kind of iPhone do you use? 2. Unit placement: Jeez, those are good points. The first point I will investigate and fix. The correction to use the next available spot for the placement I will look into as well! But the last point, never thought about it that way but it sounds like a very good idea! Minor, but I think it can be very useful. 3. Heroes: Heroes are getting better as they level, and you will get more slots to take more heroes to battle. Also, they revive after each wave. But I could balance them out a big stronger. The balance is hard to maintain (to say the least, this is actually the biggest struggle of the gameplay), so I will need some time to look into it. Thanks a lot for your feedback and kind words. I think I also replied to your review in the AppStore today, not sure if you saw it already. Let me copy it's contents Dear superghostdog, Thanks a lot for your feedback! You took the time to write this, which I really appreciate as feedback is what I need to improve Herodom. As you are stuck in level 4, have you been able to use the catapult properly? Some tips I can give you already: Spearman are strong against swordsmen. Wizards are strong against infantery, so take them out with your catapult and archers. Also, make good use of the “hold”/ “release” button. For example, line up your archers and wizards in the frontlines. A couple of lines behind them put your infantery. When the enemy infantery approaches, hold your infantery until the enemy is in reach of your archers and wizards, and then release them. It is true indeed I did a lot of play testing initially myself, but there have been many players involved in testing the app later. But you are not the only one with this feedback still so I definitely need to work on this! I will add more tips and hints in-game, and show them when a level is lost or retried. I hope this will help players progress. Herodom is meant to be challenging, but not frustrating. Sorry for that experience! If you have any other suggestions on how to make it easier/ more understandable on how to play Herodom, please let me know. Thanks again for your feedback, really appreciate it! I think the suggestion to show a grid is very valuable. I can draw a grid when you are moving the characters, and then highlight the one you are selecting. When you are placing new characters, I can also draw a grid. There is a way to sell units you placed wrongly btw, you can use the reversed/ curved arrow button for it. This will cancel the last unit you placed during the active wave preparation (it remembers all placements, so you can cancel all the placements you want). However, you can not sell units you have placed in the round before. I am really curious to know if you are able to pass level 4 with the tips I gave, if you want to give it a shot. Otherwise, I am still very gratefull for the feedback you provided!! Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #15 Jstorm, Aug 1, 2020 I played past mission 5, and purchased the game. I am fairy surprised that this game is asking for only $2.5 for the amount of contents and details in it. One thing about the purchase button, the button can be pressed multiple times and asked to be paid again. It might be better if the game just closes the purchase button once the transaction is completed. Regarding the game itself, I am having a bit of a hard time telling between armored and non-armored units in the desert. There are guys that look like bandages strapped around their body. Are they non-armored? Another question is about the shield. Do enemies with a shield have a chance to block arrows? As far as I can tell from the unit info for my units, spearman with a shield is basically an upgraded swordsman with less physical armor. Herodom likes this. Really happy about that New content is going to be added soon as well (new weapons plus the ability to also create your own wizards and healers in the wardrobe). I might consider raising the price. What would you consider a fair, but still tempting price? That is strange, the button should disappear after buying. If you open the shop menu now, do you still see the purchase button? It should be like this: The enemies in the desert are lightly armoured. A shield does not give a chance to block an arrow attack, though it is a very cool suggestion!! I think will implement that. Another mention on the sand level 5, there are enemies with tridents there, looking rather magical. They have strong magical armour, and are rather immune to wizards.. There is a bit more though already to spearmen. As they have a larger reach than swordmen with their spears (like in real life), they have an attack bonus against them. The exact numbers on that I like to keep a bit secret, but it is there. Hope that helps a bit! Have a great weekend Jstorm likes this.
