Just..... ..... wow! I was skeptical, even having enjoyed the first two in the series quite a bit, but I am pretty freak'n impressed right here. It plays pretty much just like bD2, wandering around different smaller sections, distinguishable by the environment and enemies, of a larger map while looking for dungeons to jump into. Each dungeon has some secrets and a boss and you'll need to kill each boss in order to unlock whatever is in a strange, large building somewhere in the world (I do t know if it spawns in the same environment each game or not as I'm still on my first - dying just drops all of your held gear, none of the gear you're wearing, leaves it on the ground where you died and you come to next to the last campfire you saved at). There's a few NPCs standing around to interact with/give you quests/expand the story.... usually finding something in a dungeon or finding someone if you run into a master or student. I think you need to find the apprentices in any given area, who will ask if you've seen their master, before you can enter that area's dungeon, but I'm not 100% sure about that. There does seem to be quite a bit of story/lore sprinkled throughout that you might be able to dive into. Slightly reminiscent of Hyper Light Drifter as in - it's there for you if you want to take the time to try and figure it all out : but if you don't, that won't stop you from knowing what you need to do or from beating the game. I've become a little fan of this type of story presentation over the last few years.... and it's done really well here. Anyway - the controls, I think, are a bit tighter than they were in the last games. This could also have something to do with the camera movement, I'm not sure, but I haven't found myself fighting with them in the slightest and it's comfortable to play in both landscape and portrait modes. There are several campfires scattered about where you can save (I should also say that the game is saved when you enter or leave a dungeon too), heal and also dump all the extra gear and items you don't need in exchange for currency ; those black orb things. You do only have 8 free spots to carry extra stuff, but you also have 12 different items you can equip as well as slots for 6 boosts (that increase stats; strength, intelligence, health, eco...), so you'll constantly be dumping items to make room for new ones, running back to campfires, debating which pieces to get rid of..... standard affair there. Graphics, animations, atmosphere.... they're all great... as you'll know if you've played either of the previous two (on my iPhone 6S, anyway - no clue what it looks like on anything bigger). The music/fx really blew me away. I can't remember the music or FX from the previous two, but for III, all of the audio adds to the atmosphere in the perfect way, and I love it. I've spent $30 on games in the last week and this is the only game I've not only come back to a second time (and many more after that as well), but have basically been playing nothing but this since I got it. And while it's pretty forgiving when it comes to dying, that's not to say that the game isn't hard. Pick the wrong dungeon, face the wrong boss, and you're done for. Don't learn the boss's attacks and you'll never beat them. The 'popcorn' enemies all around the larger main map areas get tougher whenever you defeat a boss and if you get swarmed by them and a handful of the larger guys that take some more concentration to beat and you could very easily be sent back to a campfire. But really, the bosses are where the difficulty lies, and the constant slaughtering of enemies that you'll be doing most of the time can easily put you at ease at just the wrong time. TL;DR:;: I. Am. LOVING. This. Game. If you have any interest, pick it up. Like dungeon crawlers? Pick it up. Liked the previous titles? GET IT!!!
