The gorgeous artwork whetted my appetite. That is, until I saw the IAP for an extra lantern slot. Although I haven't played the game, it reminded me of a recent game I played earlier today (which shall remain nameless) asking me to fork over some money for additional slots and immediate playing time. While I enjoyed that game until I came across the cheap-trick paywall which appears to prey upon a player's impatience, I promptly deleted it. I don't mind paying for IAP as long as I don't feel like I'm backed into a corner*, and the "extra lantern slot" gave me a similar rotten-smelling vibe. However, I could be wrong... *I've paid some good mula for IAP in games, so I don't have a problem plopping down my hard-earned shekels Witlogic Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2010 54 7 8 #5 Witlogic, Feb 27, 2020 You guys are ridiculous. This game is fun and fully enjoyable without spending a dime. This is clearly a labor of love not a cash grab. Your loss. Ringerill likes this. I have tested this app in the Beta and I admit I also had some problems with the F2P mechanics... However, the game is really gorgeous, well done and definitely deserves some attention. You can go and look at my detailed review of F2P mechanics and also the actual gameplay here: https://toucharcade.com/community/threads/eris-forest-f2p-tower-defense-in-a-unique-360-degree-world.404658/ The reason why they went for a F2P was to play it safe and still earn some money. I agree that releasing a premium game in these times can be risky for some. To summarise about the F2P part, the main problem is going to be the Energy system since it is required every time you want to play a level, be it Story, Quest or Challenge. However, not all IAPs are needed: - The lantern slot is not mandatory since you get a second one after advancing in the story (maybe you get another later on, I haven't gotten that far yet). - The lanterns are also not mandatory since you are going to unlock some more during your playthrough. They won't be as powerful though but enough to get you 3 stars on most levels. They are here solely for helping you. - The Energy expansion would be the only required imo, since it double the amount you can have and makes it recharge quicker. Also, after a certain time, you will unlock quests and challenges and it would allow you to expand even further your mana if you manage to complete them. Adds are only here to allow you to double the rewards you get at the end of each level and they don't appear if you don't click on it. On higher levels, you are going to earn some premium currency coins and that too can be doubled by watching an add. I admit that the Energy system is the biggest bummer for me and this put the game low in my priority list but I did enjoy playing it during the Beta. The dev said that the Energy will be looked into to try to either remove it with IAPs or rework it a little bit. I hope they will indeed implement something for that.
