The pixel art is GORGEOUS (Hi there Sword and Sworcery!), brilliant soundtrack and the gameplay is infectious. Just so that people are aware of what this is, it’s endless runner-esque and utilizes an RNG mechanic to supply you with parts for your car in order to pass by obstacles. Yes, you read that right...this isn’t exactly like those old school “keep upgrading and you’ll eventually finish this off” games even though it does share a lot in common. There IS a grind, but you’re not guaranteed progression. Also, there are tasks to complete to push the story forward and...too much writing, not enough playing!!! Look, this always belonged on mobile and it’s right at home. I love this. But your comments made me watch the whole trailer and it looks beautiful and so much more than just chasing a high score so I’ve preordered it now. Looking forward to checking it out. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #4 metalcasket, Feb 18, 2020 I'm 99% positive there isn't any high score or leaderboard involved in the game in the first place. The mushroom counter in the corner is purely to buy tools. ste86uk likes this. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #5 metalcasket, Feb 19, 2020 Just finished off the first area and OMG I’ve never played anything quite as charming, beautiful and (at times) nerveracking as this. This tickles so many senses. Also, @ste86uk, I think your pre-order may have already kicked in, but just confirming that there are no leaderboards, but an INSANE amount of achievements. Crazy stuff. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 703 113 #6 anthony78, Feb 19, 2020 This is cute and want to enjoy it but the whole swipe to change tools mechanic is honestly a little annoying. I don’t know. Maybe just me. Just feel like the game would be more enjoyable without it. The game is primarily luck-based, dependent on the set of tools you've drawn in each particular run. You're just given a window to switch over a single tool of choice at fixed intervals (Sort of. It refreshes and you can use it when you want. Indicated by the little symbol thing that fills up on top of your toolbox in-game), but what tool you get is also entirely random. Think of it as drawing a random card from a deck of cards. Sure, you can pretend the entire mechanic is non-existent, but swiping to draw a certain tool in a time of need could entirely change a single run, for better or for worse. Sheesh. Does that make any sense? ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #8 ste86uk, Feb 19, 2020 Now I’ve got a baby it’s past my bedtime when the apps come out but I’ll get on it on my lunch break. Looking forward to checking it out. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #9 ste86uk, Feb 19, 2020 Last edited: Feb 19, 2020 It certainly gives you that one more try feel and I was starting to wonder why stock up on rockets at all when I can avoid them with the other two items and then I met the yeti. I completed all my first tasks and am up to the yeti part so far and I definitely want to play more. It is more interesting having the mushrooms to spend and these story bits and random things happening that make you want to play more to figure out what it means or what they do like the bell I collected. I’ve only got the first two cars and hats so far but do you know if the cars change anything at all or if it’s just cosmetics? anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,128 703 113 #10 anthony78, Feb 19, 2020 Maybe I just wish there was a different way to change tools. Swiping on the upper right is a bit cumbersome when you are trying to look at the path. Not sure what the solution is or maybe my brain tiny brain isn’t capable of doing it. Game is more stressful than relaxing to me. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #11 ste86uk, Feb 19, 2020 I’ve found it fine you can only swap every so often so it’s not like frantic swiping or anything and like he said it’s a lot of luck too but some tools can beat multiple objects so can help more at least so far anyway. The only odd thing I’ve thought so far is that there is no option to put the tools on the side of the screen behind you instead of in front of you. slewis7 Well-Known Member Apr 6, 2011 3,768 41 48 Male Retired! My GC has been broken for a while (I am running the most current version of iPadOS 13) and when I started the game, it is stuck in a loop. I even tried turning off my WiFi and restarting the game with the same result. That motivated me to find a fix for the GC issue and get things back functioning, and of course now the game runs fine. I just started playing and it seems quite charming with lovely pixel art. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #13 metalcasket, Feb 19, 2020 That's the thing. I mean, the game's basically not catered to left-handed players at all, though I can see how it may be troublesome to implement, what with the placement of basically everything in-game. I don't know if just mirroring everything so that the game runs right to left is a viable option. ste86uk likes this. Couldn’t be happier with how this turned out. Though it’s not what I expected, I like it more each time I play (it’s definitely a “one more try” game) and I’m getting better at knowing when to use specific abilities. The little story bits are so well done - I love the lore and mystery behind the main gameplay. The first time I came across the Spoiler magical deer I chose to approach it and didn’t get anything. The next time I hid and got the bell. Wondering if I permanently missed a special item from the first encounter... I’m realizing I can buy a lot more power-ups before a run since I’m collecting more mushrooms than I expected. Really feels good to get farther once you get the hang of how to approach the different obstacles. It’s cool that there are multiple ways to pass said obstacles as well. The game just has a nice mood and feel to it. I find myself thinking about playing it when I’m at work or doing other “life” stuff. Really glad I picked it up. metalcasket and ste86uk like this. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #19 metalcasket, Feb 20, 2020 Couldn't have said it any better.
