I’m not too deep into it yet. I unlocked like 12 achievements, 12 enemies, another playable class.. Collected a few tentacles to upgrade my cave. It pretty much fills the void since my favorite Darkin was pulled from the App Store years ago. So far I’m pretty hooked. It has great presentation. It’s visually pleasing, sounds great. Controls are responsive and precise. It has a ton of content to unlock obviously. I’m only hoping it’s not gonna get too difficult along the way. I’m choosing Normal difficulty for each wave and it’s quite challenging. But I’m getting further with each attempt. There’s something wrong with online leaderboards. It’s not showing my best attempt. It seems like it’s mostly my last one, but other scores in the leaderboards doesn’t change as well. Might be bugged? Not a big deal though. Just saying. Oh, and the game’s free with the least intrusive ads I’ve ever experienced. There’s an ad after each raid (which can take 20-30 minutes if you’re NOT very successful. So it’s pretty pointless to pay for their removal unless you want to support the developer - which I highly recommend and advise to do!!! For $1.99 it’s a no-brainer. I was devastated when it disappeared from the App Store for good. Anyway, I’m curious how you’ll like the Troll Patrol. The more I play the more I enjoy it. I didn’t have a chance to upgrade anything in my cave despite the fact I collected already at least 5 blueprints. But the cost of upgrades (10 and 20 tentacles for each) is quite high because to actually keep those tentacles from the raid it requires to reach at least wave 5 and retire from it. So far I have 3 tentacles after like 3 hours of solid playing. I need to get better. LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,282 141 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #5 LordGek, Dec 30, 2019 This does truly take the mechanics offered up in Dungeon Raid and Darkin and add in a few of its own twists with a lot of achievements and unlockables to keep you coming back for more. I've learned the hard way that I'm in no way up to the various "Hard" options when offered, but I am enjoying it and really appreciate how the game slowly rolls out each new baddy so you really get to know what each one is about before tossing in a new one. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #6 macplash, Dec 30, 2019 @LordGek I’m progressing slowly and carefully. Trying to collect as many tentacles as possible, so I usually retire after 6th wave, which grants me like 2-3 tentacles so far. It’s the warrior class that makes the game easier for me. With the right upgrades I don’t even need a weapon tile to kill smaller enemies. Also having an option to use just 2 weapon tiles instead of 3 is great help. Anyway, now that I collected enough tentacles for my first cave upgrade, I really need an advice what is the best choice at this stage. Fellhuhn Member Dec 31, 2019 20 7 3 Male https://www.fellhuhn.com #9 Fellhuhn, Dec 31, 2019 Hello, fellow Trolls, developer chiming in. Great to hear that you all like the game! The leaderboard is currently broken. Or to be precise I mixed up the sorting and currently your worst score gets saved... Version 1.03 is currently in review and will use a correctly sorted (but reset) board. It will also add new visuals for some items, some new powerups and sounds. The two cave upgrades that you need the paid version of the game for are both boosts for the Scavengers. With the free version you can get Fezes by watching rewarded ads. As this option is lost once you remove ads you will then have access to Scavengers who will find Fezes for you every few hours. Overall cave upgrades are long term goals, similar to the Quests. So don't worry if you won't unlock those during your first runs. Unlock some enemies first and try to accomplish them once you feel comfortable with your current equipment selection. If you have any further comments, suggestions, questions etc. feel free to contact me (Discord, Facebook, Reddit and Email work best). I will also check on you guys here though. Yeah, the only thing I was wondering was if buying the ad removal IAP would get rid of the opt-in ads as well. Glad to see that is the case and that the game becomes an entirely premium experience! Will absolutely toss a few coin (sorry, Witcher influence >_>) your way in a few! I must say, the only bad thing about Troll Patrol is that it makes Dungeon Raid's impending GameClub revival all the less exciting. Oh, worth mentioning some of the GUI on X (notched) devices needs tampering with in portrait mode. Like maybe getting more fezs after each raid maybe? Nonetheless, it’s not a big deal. I’m just nitpicking. I’m on my 4th run throughout the first season. Definitely a treat. I’m gonna re-read the books again. And of course, I fired up my dusty xbox one x for Witcher 3 as well. Scavangers can also find Tentacles, which is a clear advantage over the rewarded ad approach. Version 1.04 (~1 week away) will also include the Buff Machine again which will allow to trade Fezes for random powerups before each run. Regarding the notched devices: I couldn't get my hands on one of those yet so I will have to improvise a bit and see if I can come up with a solution. As the game is available also for Android it currently supports many resolutions which was quite difficult to set up and then they come up with those notches. Argh. Shouldn't be too hard to fix but I don't know if that will be ready for 1.04 as it also depends on Unity's support for those. Just installed Blood & Wine and I fear it will hinder the progress of the game a bit... metalcasket likes this. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #13 metalcasket, Dec 31, 2019 Nah, I get the nitpicking, but per Fellhuhn's post above, don't forget the cave upgrades that boost the Scavengers' looting skills. Dunno if the amount is fixed each run, but so far I got 6 from the very 1st one. So, getting 3 more would be like 50% increase which is actually pretty great. But yeah, I don’t have a blueprint for reduced duration yet. If it’s cut to half, it’d be a no-brainer. I’ll do a few more runs and we’ll see if the luck is on my side. Just out of curiosity. These timed Scavenger runs. Do I have to go into game every time the run’s over to collect Fezes and initiate another run just to not waste any time? Because that would feel too much free 2 play, if you ask me. I don’t know how it works yet. Hence, the confusion. It would be much better to have a choice to end run by ourselves and until than it would be collecting resources in background indefinitely. Being forced to log in to a game every 6 hours (or possibly 3 with said upgrade) just doesn’t feel right for a fully premium experience. Am I making any sense? Fellhuhn Member Dec 31, 2019 20 7 3 Male https://www.fellhuhn.com #20 Fellhuhn, Dec 31, 2019 Of course you are making sense. We thought about that (had lengthy discussions with other devs and the beta testers). Problem with that is that you get too many Fezes just if you don't play for a week or even longer (continunous income, no outflow). The thing is that some people were complaining that they couldn't watch rewarded ads anymore once they bought the game. So this was the compromise. You will drown in Fezes soon anyway (the Buff Machine which will be added with 1.04 again will offer another way to spend them while making the patrols easier) and those Scavengers won't make much of a difference. The goal is not to have people open the app again and again just to collect those (I don't like those games either). I might add a way to collect some without opening the app. Like getting twice the amount if you skipped at least one collection but not more. Otherwise it would almost be an auto-playing-game (or what those are called nowadays). The cleanest solution would be to remove the rewarded ads and the Scavengers competely as that would mostly be what people expect from premium games but that would lead to an outcry from at least many beta testers as they like the rewarded ads as an easy way to fuel the buff machine. It is a tricky situation. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
